The latest keynote from Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference this year has definitely triggered a rush of excitement across both avid iOS users and non-users across the globe. This incredible hype is all because of the announcement of the new iOS 9, an operating system that promises to change the face of Apple gadgets forever.

  • Multitasking. One of the biggest things that the iOS 9 focuses on is multitasking, especially for the iPad users. Now, you can run two different apps side by side through the Slide Over and Split View features, or let the Picture-in-Picture function allow you to create a separate video window that floats over the others.
  • App Switching. Instead of the usual side-by-side view that you get when you try to switch apps, you now get a card-like view that stacks app windows on top of each other. This proves to be a faster way to find the app that you’re looking for. A back button is also added to let you go back to the previous app you were using.
  • Proactive. In response to the hype around Google Now, Apple introduces Proactive. From the name itself, Proactive is a digital assistant that seems to know everything you need and launches it for you. Plugging in your earphones, for example, would prompt it to immediately launch the Music app.

  • Spotlight and Siri. Other features that have been retained and improved in iOS 9 are Spotlight and Siri. You can now get more information for any kind of search, and could ask Siri to do more specific actions such as showing you photos taken at specific dates or locations.
  • Wallet. Where Passbook became an app that was mostly ignored in past iOS versions, it will now be replaced by the more versatile Wallet app. It stores your Apple Pay cards, reward cards, tickets, boarding passes, and more.
  • News. Apple is also getting rid of the Newsstand app and will be replacing it with the News app. News will be curating content and showing you stories that it believes you would be most interested in. All these would come from the most popular sources around the globe, as well as a few of your favorite pages, no matter how underground it could be.
  • Low Power Mode. Where battery life always seems to be an issue with any smartphone or mobile device, Apple offers their users an improved experience with the low power mode. It efficiently stretches your battery life, especially when it notices that you barely have enough power left.
  • Notes. The Notes app will be getting a whole new look too as the iOS is launched. It will not only be your usual notepad, but will also be a place where you can create checklists, insert images, and a lot more.
  • Transit Directions. Now, commuting is a whole lot easier with iOS9. Check directions and schedules for the buses, ferries, subways, and other public transport.
  • Keyboard. The iPad will also be showing a whole new look to its keyboard once the iOS9 is launched. The QuickType keyboard features a shortcut bar that has basic formatting and editing functions like bold, italics, cut, copy, or paste.

With features like these, who could resist running to shops that sell iPhone units and other Apple products once the iOS9 is launched?
