Are packages insured?

Yes. All packages are insured for up to $110. Customers however are still responsible for proper packaging of their gadgets. If items are not packed properly and arrive damaged, UPS will not honor insurance claim, and we will have to revise your online quote based on the condition of the gadget.

The good news is that It is still possible to clear your device. Here’s how:

      • Click “Devices”at the top, and locate the device you sent to Gadget Salvation. After a few moments, iCloud will finish updating the location on each of your devices and the device you sent in should appear as offline. Click on the device to select it, go back to the device list, and the click the “X” button to remove it from your account. Please note: device must be powered off.

      • Click “remove” on the next screen to confirm.

    • If you received an email from Gadget Salvation asking you to complete these steps, use the link in your email to let us know you’ve removed it from your account so we can continue to process your device.
    • Please note: If you are still in possession of your device, you can turn off Find My iPhone right from the settings menu. If you aren’t able to remove the device from your iCloud account, please contact us for assistance.

Will wiping my hard drive affect my quote?

We recommended to reset your computer to its factory settings, without erasing the software. Otherwise, please select “No operative system” option under “Other”.

Can I sell electronics not listed on your website?

It’s possible. We do our best to keep always our purchasing database up to date. If your device is older than 8 years old it is possible that we have discontinued the purchase of this product. If our evaluation does not match up with the one you completed online, the offer may decrease or increase accordingly. If your offer changes for any reason, you will receive an email on the day of inspection with the new value and an explanation of any changes to your offer. What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Before you sell or give away your iOS device, make sure that you’ve removed all of your personal information. Follow these steps to protect your data and get your device to its factory default state for the new owner:

      • Back up your device.
      • Sign out of iCloud:
        • Tap Settings > iCloud, scroll down, and tap Sign Out. In iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account.
        • Tap Sign Out again, tap Delete from My iPhone, then enter your password.
      • Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.
        • This will completely erase your device, including any credit or debit cards you added for Apple Pay and any photos, contacts, music, or apps. It will also turn off iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and other services.
        • If you’re using iOS 7 or later and have Find My iPhone turned on, your Apple ID and password will be required. After you provide your password, the device will be erased and removed from your account so that the next owner can activate it.
        • Your content won’t be deleted from iCloud when you erase your device.
      • Contact your carrier for guidance on transferring service to the new owner. If you aren’t using a SIM-card with your device, you can contact them to get help transferring service to the new owner.

When the new owner turns on the device for the first time, Setup Assistant will guide them through the setup process. Important: Don’t manually delete contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photo streams, or any other iCloud data while signed in to your iCloud account, or the content will also be deleted from the iCloud servers and all of your devices that are signed in to iCloud.

If you no longer have your iOS device

If you didn’t follow the steps above before selling or giving away your iOS device:

    • Ask the new owner to erase all content and settings as described above.
    • If you’re using iCloud and Find My iPhone on the device, you can erase the device remotely and remove it from your account by signing in to icloud.com/find, selecting the device, and clicking Erase. When the device has been erased, click Remove from Account. After you erase the device, you’ll need to wait 24 hours before you can activate iMessage on your new device.
    • If you’re unable to complete either of the above steps, you should change your Apple ID password. Changing your password won’t remove any personal information that is cached on the device, but it will make sure that the new owner can’t delete your information from iCloud.
    • Deregister iMessage if you’re switching to a non-Apple phone.

If you’re using Apple Pay, you can also remove your credit or debit cards at iCloud.com. Just choose Settings to see which devices are using Apple Pay, then click your device and click Remove next to Apple Pay.

How do I know if my hard drive is failing?

1. Slowing Down Computer, Frequent Freezes, Blue Screen Of Death

These are very unspecific signs that can be caused by a million different things. However, regardless of what the issue behind these symptoms is, it is recommended that you immediately make a backup. If these problems occur after a fresh installations or in Windows Safe Mode, it is almost certain that it is due to bad hardware, and possibly a failing hard drive. How To Start In Windows Safe Mode & Its Uses How To Start In Windows Safe Mode & Its UsesREAD MORE

2. Corrupted Data

If you’re beginning to find files that fail to open and are corrupted even though they saved without errors or if files suddenly disappear, you should get worried. While again this could be due to a multitude of issues, it is also a typical sign for a gradual hard drive failure.

3. Accumulation Of Bad Sectors

Bad sectors are areas of the hard drive that do not maintain data integrity. They are automatically masked by the operating system and thus hard to identify, especially if large amounts of the disk are currently in use. If you actually run into bad sectors, however, that certainly is a bad sign.

You can run a manual disk check to identify errors that Windows has not spotted, yet. In Windows 7, go to > Start > Computer and right-click on the disk or partition you wish to check. Select > Properties, in the window that opens switch to the > Tools tab and click > Check now… In the Checking Disk window place a checkmark next to > Automatically fix file system errors and > Scan for an attempt recovery of bad sectors.

Windows will also check for bad sectors, when you perform a full format or chkdsk command. 4. Strange Sounds

When you hear strange noises coming from your hard drive, it may be too late already. A repetitive sound also known as the click of death is caused by the head as it is trying to write data and recovers from errors in doing so. Grinding or screeching noises indicate that parts of the hardware, for example the bearings or spindle motor, are failing.

5. S.M.A.R.T. Data

There are tools that aim to predict hard drive failure by reading the S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) data that is recorded by the operating system. Unfortunately, like most other methods listed above, S.M.A.R.T. is notoriously unreliable in predicting hard drive failure and the catastrophe will often happen before the warning of S.M.A.R.T. kicks in. If you have a working hard drive, however, and would like to have a look at its S.M.A.R.T. data, check out this article – 4 Tools To Predict and Prevent Hard Drive Failure

We use CheckMEND, a state-of-the-art tool that includes information from carriers, law enforcement and insurance companies to identify whether a device has been reported either lost or stolen.

CheckMEND is a cutting-edge tool designed to more accurately detect potentially stolen goods, including smartphones, tablets and computers. Developed by Recipero, the largest U.S. consumer electronics background report service, CheckMEND compiles data from major wireless carriers, law enforcement and insurance companies across the country (including the FBI) to provide the most complete database of lost or stolen devices. Gadget Salvation was the first consumer electronics trade-in site to deploy CheckMEND in the United States.

We also regularly assist law enforcement in the investigation of stolen property. We record the device’s electronic serial number for each item we receive, so we can provide a trail for items under inquiry. Also, all devices, regardless of whether they are reported as lost or stolen, go through our data wipe process.

As part of our online trade-in process, each of our customers are required to contractually confirm the device is in fact theirs to sell and has not been reported as lost or stolen. We also remind customers at several points in the process that we do not accept items that have been reported lost or stolen.

TESTING PROCESS

My device’s wear and tear is expected for its age, why was my quote lowered?

Our online calculator has a simply constructed interface, three main categories for your device: “Like new”, “good”, and “other”. When you select
like new or “good”, a box with show up detailing what it is considered to be “like new” or “good”. We so this so that there aren’t any gray areas or gaps to fill with misrepresentations. Different people take care of their valuables in a different way, while someone may have had a laptop for 6 years and kept in mint condition, someone else could have had a laptop for only 2 years and its condition may be deplorable.

This is why we don not want to leave room for “wear and tear expected for it age”. We do understand that many other electronic trade-in website operate within this premises, but please do understand that these companies that do so are not reputable and as a mater of fact they operates in this way to take advantage of the grey area. Some of those companies deduct as much as 90% based on cosmetic issues. We want to be as completely transparent with you by giving you the option to accurately select the condition of your device and not offer you above-the-market high unrealistic quotes.
