Snap’s Spectacles have gotten even better. The company recreated their original wearable and improved it in many ways. From Spectacles’ slimmer design down to their upgraded hardware, it’s obvious that Snap listened to feedback before recreating their iconic product.

Believing in Spectacles V2

Snap may have made a costly decision when it launched the first version of Spectacles. Those who follow the company’s journey would know that Snap’s first wearable did not reach its expected sales. The product did receive positive reviews from consumers, but it wasn’t enough to make Spectacles a commercial success.

Needless to say, the company still believes in Spectacles. But in an attempt to understand the complaints about the previous Spectacles model and avoid making the same mistakes, Snap communicated with its customers and employees. With the information that they had gathered, Snap was able to come up with a number of solid upgrades for its wearable.

Snap Spectacles V2 Upgrades and Features

Physical appeal was probably one of Snap’s top priorities in creating the new Spectacles. Wearables like these tend to look more like cameras than the actual objects that they are modeled after. Snap worked on this problem with the new version. Spectacles are now slimmer than ever, and they look more like a pair of sunglasses than a face camera. The new wearable is not a bulky piece of gadget like most camera devices. They’re thinner so you can put them inside your pocket or hang them from your collar. Along with the slimmer Spectacles comes the smaller case, so this means improved portability as well.

Snap also tried its best to decrease the waiting time when transferring files from Spectacles to a phone. The company claims that the download speed is now three to four times faster than the previous Spectacles. Nevertheless, Snap failed to improve the user experience aspect of file transfer. The new Spectacles still require users to go through the same multi-step process of connecting two devices.

Nevertheless, despite that disappointing upgrade, Snap was able to add something that’s actually helpful: the new Spectacles are now waterproof and can be submerged at shallow depths. This means that you can now safely take the glasses into the water without fear that they will malfunction. This is a great addition considering that sunglasses and cameras are often taken to beaches and pools. To make this upgrade complete, Snap has also made the Spectacles’ case splash-proof. Since the case also serves as the Spectacles’ charger, making it water-resistant is a clever decision.

On top of these new features, Snap has given the new Spectacles other smart upgrades, which include the ability to now take both photos and videos. The resolutions have been increased as well. The device now also has a microphone. In addition to these significant improvements, the company is also working with Lensabl to create prescription and polarized lenses. All these upgrades for only $150—just $20 more than its predecessor.
