A Kickstarter campaign has been launched for a gadget highlighted as the tiniest Bluetooth headset in the world. The tiny device, aptly named as Dot, looks like a small earbud. It is incredibly light with only 0.12 oz. in weight. It is also sweat-resistant. With only a few weeks to go, the gadget has far exceeded its campaign goal of $30,000.

Dot is made out of compact aluminum and heavy-duty thermoplastic materials. It boasts a miniature, top-quality driver to produce an impressive sound from a sleek and stylish design. To scale back its size, Dot relies on space-saving cordless charging, rather than using a bulky charging slot. According to Dot’s creator, Ivan Kan, the tiny gadget is built from the ground up. It is purposely crafted to be small yet exquisite. Its design concept is to integrate fashion with function.

In line with Dot’s crowdfunding campaign, the technical specifics of the gadget have long been completed. The creators are now working with a complete prototype. Provided everything goes as planned, they will present Dot to the public at the end of this year.

Selling Points

Among the biggest selling points of Dot is the fact that it’s wireless. This allows users to clear out the wires and cables linked to their earbuds. While many won’t possibly want to listen to music with only a piece of earphone, Kan and his team also offer the Dot Stereo. The gadget presents users a complete stereo music experience. Though the audio quality is less inferior as tuning in on full headphones, people who favor earbuds will most likely not notice a big difference with the quality of sound.

The mini gadget comes at a period when tech concepts are becoming more and more portable and wearable. Moreover, with smartwatches and other device wearables growing in number, Bluetooth headsets are also positioned to perform a significant role for users who want to enjoy music. This is because the majority of smartwatches does not provide a headset port.

Now, Dot isn’t the only small wireless headset to choose from. However, it’s less expensive than its competitors. Based on the Kickstarter comparison page, Dot is the smallest, lightest, and cheapest in its category.

Possible Drawbacks

Dot, with its miniature size and booming benefits, is definitely fascinating, but there is one aspect where the gadget appears to flunk. That area is its battery life. Its main competitors offer at the least three hours of use per charge. The Dot supposedly can only work for an hour of music playing or an hour and a half of talk time. Using the portable charger can prolong these time limits to six and nine hours, respectively. The downside is the need to charge the gadget for half an hour. Simply put, it’s 60 minutes of listening to music followed by 30 minutes of charging, six times over.

Update

As of July 13, the crowdfunding campaign for the Dot earphone has been frozen by Kickstarter. As of yet, there isn’t a lot of information about the suspension.
