Apple Rumored to be Working on Opening Siri Up to Third Party Developers

The first time Apple introduced Siri, an endless string of puns, memes, and parodies were released, showing that it was far from perfect. It rarely got instructions right, and say the most hilarious (or infuriating) things that lie far from the context of what you asked.

Of course, Apple used all these to create better versions of the personal assistant, trying to refine the things that needed to be improved. Over time, Siri got better, and the jokes started dying natural deaths.

But when Amazon decided to step into the limelight with their own personal assistant, people were shocked. Just when people started thinking that Amazon would not really excel in this field, they released the Amazon Echo, something that could change the way your entire home – and life – works.

This is something that Apple will not take lightly.

Apple Opening Siri Up

Today, we all anticipate the future release of a completely reinvented Siri, something that would rival the Amazon Echo. And this development starts right at the heart of the personal assistant. Where Apple used to be known for keeping an exclusive environment, they are now stepping away from that and are opening Siri up to third party developers.

Apple is finally preparing the release of a software developer kit that would allow 3 rd party developers to integrate their apps into Siri’s system. Of course, with this comes the development of a new hardware similar to the Amazon Echo, which will house the revamped personal assistant.

The Amazon Echo

What’s all the fuss about the Amazon Echo and why is Apple threatened enough to create a rival? Here’s a recap of some of the Echo’s greatest features.

  • Plays any song, playlist or album you request for
  • Finds its own upgrades and updates
  • Hooks up with different apps you use around your home, allowing you to turn the lights on or off or control the temperature using a command
  • Get the weather
  • Listen to audio books or podcasts
  • Ask for recipes and set timers for the chicken you just popped into the oven
  • Do almost everything else, as long as there’s a command for it

Yup, that’s how useful the Amazon Echo is. As long as there’s an app that you can link to the action you want, then Echo is going to do it for you, no questions asked.

What does all this mean? Well, it looks like our future homes are going to be so much more interesting.

It’s going to revolutionize how every home works the same way TV remote controls did when it was first created.

And this is just the beginning. Knowing that Apple is answering Amazon’s call for a tech revolution, other brands are sure to follow suit, each one coming up with even more amazing features with every release.

Before we know it, we may not even need to stand up to do anything around the house. Now that’s one device that people who sell electronics would surely love to get their hands on.
