Apple is exploring launch next year new iPhones with larger screens and cheaper models in various colors, said four persons with knowledge of the subject, while learning a lesson of its rival Samsung.

The plans, still in discussion, illustrate how the California company that used to dominate the market for their high-end mobile, is under increasing pressure from its aggressive south Korean competitor.

Samsung beat Apple in market share thanks to the popularity of their phones large line of the Galaxy, which have a larger screen and are flooding the market with a variety of products of different prices.

WHAT HAS BEEN
Apple is considering introducing at least two larger iPhone next year – one with a screen of 4.7 inches and another with a 5.7 -inch -, the sources said, some of them in the supply chain in Asia.

They added that the suppliers have been addressed with plans to manufacture larger screens, but clarified that is not yet clear if Apple will launch its most emblematic product in larger sizes.

“They constantly changing product specifications almost until the last moment, so one is not sure if this really is the final prototype,” said a person with direct knowledge of the subject.

Apple declined to comment.

THE MARKET
The current iPhone 5 account with one of the smaller screens between the more advanced phones sold of the mobile device market, where consumers spend more time searching the Internet and streaming content. The S4 Galaxy and Galaxy Note 2 Samsung have screens of 5 and 5.5 inches respectively.

For this year, Apple is expected to launch two new models, widely referred to as the iPhone 5S, with new technology for fingerprints, in addition to a cheaper version with plastic cover, according to sources in the supply chain.

COLORS
Apple plans to make more attractive the economy version, to offer it in a range from 5 to 6 colors to differentiate it from the more expensive model that traditionally is sold only in black and white colors.

The US firm has discussed a price of $99 for the cheaper version of the phone, a choice that could be done the next year, said one of the people. It is still unclear what will be the final price.
