WhatsApp reported on Thursday that its users exchanged 27 billion messages to over 24 hours. Of the total number of exchanges, the company said, 10 billion were incoming messages and 17 thousand million outgoing messages.

The difference between messages “inbound” and “outgoing” is related to the group chat. That is to say, send a message to a group chat of 10 people, it is counted as an incoming message and 10 outgoing.
