The glaring light from gadgets lambasting your face at night is bad for your health. Lucky for you, iOS now features iPhone color shifting to reduce the light of your smartphone for convenient reading at night.

The folks who sell iPhones will tell you that the blinding bluish-white light smartphones emit is like the noonday sun. The glaring light can overstimulate your brain. So when you’re exposed to the blazing light at night, it interferes with your sleeping pattern and leads to several other medical problems. It´s possible, however, to lessen the effect of this light exposure at night by changing your smartphone’s bright colors to warmer tones.

The good news is, the latest iOS update has made it easy to modify the screen light of Apple gadgets without jailbreaking or installing extra apps. The new “Night Shift” feature tunes in the color temp of the screen of your iPhone so you’d have a softer and warmer shade (almost like a light from a candle) that’s less taxing to your brain. The modification is easy enough to do as you only need to toggle the feature on and off, set it up with a preset schedule, and even switch it to automatically turn off in the morning and on in the evening.

Enable iPhone’s Night Shift Feature

To benefit from the new “Night Shift” mode, you simply need an iOS unit equipped for upgrading to iOS 9.3. It must also feature one of the brand’s more recent 64-bit chips. Older units good for the upgrade can’t make use of the feature.

With iOS 9.3, you’ll find a couple of ways to apply the Night Shift feature.

  • Toggle it when needed using the iOS control center.
  • Set-up schedules so the phone screen can automatically switch to Night Shift during sunset.

To enable the Night Shift mode:

• Swipe the screen to launch the phone’s control center.

• Look for the Night Shift icon in the middle of the shortcut row and then tap it. A message box will appear with a brief overview of the Night Shift feature along with two buttons. One is a schedule to “Turn on until 7AM” and the other is “Schedule Settings”

You may also access and enable the Night Shift configurations through the Settings app.

• Browse the Display & Brightness option from the app.

• Choose “Night Shift.”

• Tap the “Schedule Settings” option to continue. Here, you’re able to choose “Scheduled” to go with your Night Shift timetable or “Manually Enabled” to enable it manually whenever you like.

If the pre-arranged schedule doesn’t meet your needs, you can simply set up your own schedule in line with your reading time.

You may also change the warmth of the phone’s screen via the slider below the Night Shift menu. Tapping “Less Warm” indicates you will get a less amount of red tones when the Night Shift mode is enabled. The “More Warm” option means the display light will appear redder.

Apple’s new Night Shift feature is one of the brand’s clever tickets for reducing the effect of late night gadget use.
