Despite the strong competition facing today, the popularity of WhatsApp has not waned, and the users showed great loyalty to the application by noting a new records for the exchange of messages, after the 18 billion registered last December 31.

WhatsApp reported on Thursday that its users exchanged 27 billion messages to over 24 hours. Of the total number of exchanges, the company said, 10 billion were incoming messages and 17 thousand million outgoing messages.

The difference between messages “inbound” and “outgoing” is related to the group chat. That is to say, send a message to a group chat of 10 people, it is counted as an incoming message and 10 outgoing.

WhatsApp is a service of free exchange of message, photos, videos, audios and location that has a wide selection of emoticons. It is free to download in Android (the first year), while in IOS, BlackBerry and Windows Phone costs US$ 0.99 .

Last April, founder and CEO of WhatsApp, Jan Koum, assured that had more users than Twitter, the social network that is nothing less than 200 million active users per month.
