Before we get started, here are three important facts you need to know as early as now:

  • Google owns, makes and develops Android.
  • Google used to own Motorola, and helped out in creating the Nexus phones.
  • Google has never created their own phone despite all these connections to the smartphone industry.

Now that we have those out of the way, it’s easier to have a clear perspective on how groundbreaking this news actually is. Google is finally releasing their own phone, something that’s all Google, all the way. This makes it a huge threat to other smartphone giants, knowing that the entity that creates the system they run on is now their biggest competitor.

Here are the most important things you need to know about the Google Pixel:

  1. It has the usual 3.5mm headphone jack.

This is quite interesting, knowing that Google is positioning this phone to be a direct competitor of the iPhone, especially with its high-end nature. But that doesn’t mean that it’s getting rid of the same things Apple got rid of. The Pixel still comes with the usual headphone jack, so if you were peeved by Apple’s decision to go wireless but would like to continue using something high-end, this could be a good alternative for you.

  1. It has Google Assistant.

Over the years, smartphones have competed on who has the best virtual assistant. Well, looks like Google is taking this race seriously with its Google Assistant, which is already rated to be far better than Siri. Seriously, who would expect anything else? They do run the biggest search network in the world, and if you put that huge database into one virtual assistant, you can just imagine the possibilities.

  1. It has limitless room for photos.

Looks like Google is trying to prove that “unlimited” could be a real thing, after all. Google backs up every single photo you take to an unlimited cloud storage that you have access to, which means that you won’t have to worry about filling up your phone storage with photos. You can take all the photos you want without having to worry about having limited room for it.

  1. It’s not yet water resistant.

Again, this is one thing that Google decided not to apply, though iPhone 7 users already enjoy the feature. The Google Pixel is not water resistant, although future versions of it would probably be, especially if it wants to be at par with everybody else’s features. For now however, if you see this as a deal breaker, then you can stick to your iPhone 7.

  1. It’s bulkier than most smartphones.

This is another weird design decision from Google. Where other smartphones are going slimmer and sleeker, the Google Pixel has the same 5.5-inch screen that the iPhone 7 Plus has, but with a thicker body.

So are you going to make the switch? Experts that sell electronics are considering the idea, but that depends on what matters to you the most. Hopefully, these 5 factors may help you make the decision.
