The Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch (2019) — factory model number A2141, EMC 3347 — launched on November 13, 2019 and stayed in Apple's lineup until October 2021, when the Apple Silicon M1 Pro and M1 Max models replaced it. It was the machine that retired the troublesome butterfly keyboard, stretched the display from 15.4 inches to a true 16 inches, and packed in the largest battery Apple had ever put in a notebook at the time. Two standard configurations shipped at retail (MVVJ2LL/A, MVVL2LL/A, MVVK2LL/A, and MVVM2LL/A), with a long list of build-to-order upgrades layered on top — and because Apple soldered the memory and storage directly to the logic board, the configuration you bought is the configuration you still own, and it sets your resale value. Is this your MacBook? How to identify the 16-inch 2019 model
You do not need to know anything about computers to confirm this. Pick whichever method is easiest for you — both take less than a minute.
✅ Method 1 — Flip it over (works even if it won't turn on)
- Close the lid and turn the laptop upside down on a towel or soft surface.
- Read the small gray text printed near the hinge. You are looking for a line that reads Model No. A2141.
- Just above it you may also see EMC 3347. Either number confirms you have the 16-inch 2019 model.
- If the text is too small to read, take a photo with your phone and zoom in — that is what most people do.
✅ Method 2 — Check it on screen
- Click the black Apple logo in the very top-left corner of your screen.
- Choose About This Mac. The window will say MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019).
- For the exact internal name, click More Info (or System Report on older macOS versions), then look at Model Identifier.
- You will see either MacBookPro16,1 or MacBookPro16,4. Both are 2019 16-inch machines — see the note below on why the difference matters to your offer.
✅ Method 3 — Look at the physical layout
- Four oval USB-C ports total — two on each side, nothing else except a round headphone jack on the right.
- A thin black touch strip (the Touch Bar) above the number keys, with a separate physical Esc key to its left.
- Arrow keys arranged in an upside-down T shape, with half-height left and right arrows.
- A solid strip of screen bezel across the top — no notch cut into the display.
❌ This is not your model if you see any of these
- An HDMI port or an SD card slot → you have a 2021 or newer 14/16-inch MacBook Pro (A2442, A2485, A2779, A2780, A2918, A2991).
- A rectangular magnetic MagSafe charging port → 2021 or newer, or a much older pre-2016 model.
- A notch cut into the top of the screen → 2021 or newer Apple Silicon model.
- No Esc key, or a Touch Bar that runs the full width → you have a 15-inch A1990 or a 13-inch butterfly-keyboard model.
- Only two USB-C ports → 13-inch MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air.

Core hardware configurations
Processor (CPU)
- 2.6GHz 6-core Intel Core i7-9750H — Turbo Boost up to 4.5 GHz, 12MB shared L3 cache (base configuration)
- 2.3GHz 8-core Intel Core i9-9880H — Turbo Boost up to 4.8 GHz, 16MB shared L3 cache (higher-tier standard configuration)
- 2.4GHz 8-core Intel Core i9-9980HK — Turbo Boost up to 5.0 GHz, 16MB shared L3 cache (build-to-order upgrade only, available on both tiers)
- All chips are 9th-generation Intel Coffee Lake Refresh. This is an Intel Mac, not an Apple Silicon M-series Mac.
Graphics (GPU)
- AMD Radeon Pro 5300M — 4GB GDDR6 (standard on the 2.6GHz i7 configuration)
- AMD Radeon Pro 5500M — 4GB GDDR6 (standard on the 2.3GHz i9 configuration)
- AMD Radeon Pro 5500M — 8GB GDDR6 (build-to-order)
- AMD Radeon Pro 5600M — 8GB HBM2 (build-to-order, added June 2020; this is the configuration that reports as MacBookPro16,4)
- Intel UHD Graphics 630 integrated, with automatic graphics switching to save battery
Memory (RAM)
- 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of 2666MHz DDR4 memory
- Soldered onboard — not upgradable. There are no memory slots inside this machine, so whatever it shipped with is what it has today.
- Because it cannot be changed, RAM capacity is one of the biggest single factors in what your MacBook is worth. A 64GB unit is worth substantially more than an identical 16GB unit.
Storage
- 512GB SSD standard on the 2.6GHz i7, configurable to 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, or 8TB
- 1TB SSD standard on the 2.3GHz i9, configurable to 2TB, 4TB, or 8TB
- Soldered to the logic board and encrypted by the Apple T2 Security Chip. The drive cannot be removed, swapped, or upgraded.
- 8TB units are rare and command a significant premium — check your capacity before you quote.
Display & audio
Display
16-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Retina display with IPS technology, running a native 3072 × 1920 resolution at 226 pixels per inch. Rated at 500 nits brightness with wide color (P3) gamut and True Tone. Selectable refresh rates of 47.95Hz, 48.00Hz, 50.00Hz, 59.94Hz, and 60.00Hz were included for video editors matching footage frame rates. This is a traditional LED-backlit IPS panel — not mini-LED and not OLED — so there is no burn-in risk, but screen condition, backlight uniformity, and any pressure marks do affect your offer.
Audio
High-fidelity six-speaker system with force-cancelling woofers, wide stereo sound, and support for Dolby Atmos playback. Paired with a studio-quality three-microphone array with directional beamforming. This speaker system was a genuine standout of the 2019 model and is still one of the best in any laptop — worth testing before you list your condition, since blown or rattling speakers reduce the payout.
Ports & connectivity
This generation is famously minimal. Every connection except headphones runs through USB-C, which is why most owners still keep a dongle or hub in the bag.
- 2× Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports (charging, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt up to 40Gb/s, USB 3.1 Gen 2 up to 10Gb/s)
- 2× Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports (identical capability — you can charge from any of the four)
- 1× 3.5mm headphone jack
Not included on this model: no HDMI port, no SD or SDXC card reader, no USB-A (rectangular) ports, no MagSafe magnetic charging, no Ethernet jack, and no Wi-Fi 6. If your laptop has any of those, you are looking at a different generation — see the identification section above.

Battery, build & more
Battery & charging
Built-in 100-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery (99.8Wh actual rating) — the largest Apple had ever shipped in a notebook, and right at the FAA carry-on limit. Rated for up to 11 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 30 days of standby when new. Ships with a 96W USB-C Power Adapter and a 2-meter USB-C charge cable.
Camera & mic
720p FaceTime HD camera above the display, backed by the three-microphone array. The webcam is 720p only — Apple did not move to 1080p until the 2021 redesign.
Keyboard & Touch Bar
Backlit Magic Keyboard with 65 (U.S.) keys using scissor-switch mechanisms — the replacement for the failure-prone butterfly keyboard used on the 15-inch models. Includes the Touch Bar, a separate physical Esc key, a Touch ID sensor, an ambient light sensor, and four arrow keys in an inverted-T arrangement. Force Touch trackpad below.
Security & firmware
Apple T2 Security Chip handles secure boot, on-the-fly SSD encryption, and the Touch ID sensor. This is why the drive must be erased through macOS rather than physically removed, and why signing out of your Apple ID before shipping is mandatory rather than optional.
Finish & weight
Anodized aluminum unibody in Silver or Space Gray. 4.3 lb (2.0 kg), varying slightly by configuration. Color does not typically change the offer, though Space Gray shows scuffs and edge wear more visibly than Silver.
Dimensions
0.64" × 14.09" × 9.68" (1.62 × 35.79 × 24.59 cm). Rated EPEAT Gold in the United States and Canada and meets ENERGY STAR requirements.
Frequently asked questions
MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2018–2019 (A1990) — look at the top-left of the keyboard. If the Touch Bar runs edge to edge with no separate physical Esc key, and the arrow keys are all full-height in a row, you have the 15-inch butterfly-keyboard model. It also uses an 87W charger instead of 96W. Quote it on our MacBook Pro 15-inch page instead.
MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2021 and newer (A2485, A2780, A2991) — check the right side of the chassis. If there is an HDMI port and an SD card slot, and a rectangular magnetic MagSafe charging port on the left, it is a 2021 or later Apple Silicon model. Those also have a notch cut into the top of the screen and no Touch Bar at all.
MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2019–2020 — count the USB-C ports. Two ports means 13-inch; four ports on a 16-inch chassis means you are in the right place.
MacBookPro16,1 vs. MacBookPro16,4 — both are this exact laptop. The 16,4 identifier means your unit was built with the AMD Radeon Pro 5600M graphics card (8GB HBM2), a build-to-order upgrade Apple added in June 2020. It is the most valuable graphics option in this generation, so select it accurately.
