The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (GU605) is ASUS's slim, premium 16-inch gaming and creator laptop, sold across two closely related Intel-based generations that share the same model number and near-identical CNC aluminum chassis with the diagonal "Slash Lighting" LED bar on the lid. The 2024 model (released early 2024) runs on Intel Core Ultra "Meteor Lake" processors with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40-series graphics, while the 2025 model (released early 2025) steps up to Intel Core Ultra 200-series "Arrow Lake" processors with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series graphics. Because these two years look almost the same on the outside but carry very different internals, your exact configuration and generation determine your final cash offer. Many owners use our gaming laptop trade-in service to sell theirs online for cash without listing it themselves. Select your components using our tool above to view an instant offer for your exact device.
First, confirm which Zephyrus G16 you have
Both generations carry the base model number GU605. The reliable way to tell them apart is the letter directly after "GU605" in the full model code (found on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop) combined with the processor name. Not tech-savvy? On Windows, press the Windows key, type msinfo32, press Enter, and read the "System Model" and "Processor" lines — that tells you everything below.
✅ This is the 2024 model
- Model code begins GU605M (e.g. GU605MI, GU605MV, GU605MZ, GU605MY, GU605MU)
- Processor reads Intel Core Ultra 7 155H or Intel Core Ultra 9 185H ("Meteor Lake")
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 / 4060 / 4070 / 4080 / 4090
✅ This is the 2025 model
- Model code begins GU605C (e.g. GU605CR, GU605CW, GU605CX, GU605CP)
- Processor reads Intel Core Ultra 9 285H ("Arrow Lake")
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 / 5070 Ti / 5080 / 5090
❌ Not this page if…
- GA605 (with an "A") — that's the AMD Ryzen Zephyrus G16, a different machine
- GU603 — that's the older 2023 Zephyrus G16
- GU606 — that's the newer 2026 Zephyrus G16 (Intel Panther Lake)
- A 14-inch GA403 / GA402 — that's the smaller Zephyrus G14
Need help finding the model code?
The full code is laser-printed on the label on the underside of the laptop, and also appears in msinfo32 as described above. Our step-by-step ASUS model number guide walks you through it with pictures.
Core hardware by generation
Processor (CPU)
- 2024 (GU605M): Intel Core Ultra 7 155H (16 cores, 22 threads, up to 4.8 GHz) or Intel Core Ultra 9 185H (16 cores, 22 threads, up to 5.1 GHz) — both "Meteor Lake" with Intel AI Boost NPU
- 2025 (GU605C): Intel Core Ultra 9 285H (16 cores, 16 threads, up to 5.4 GHz) — "Arrow Lake" with a 13 TOPS NPU
Graphics (GPU)
- 2024: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, 4060, 4070, 4080, or 4090 Laptop GPU (up to 8GB / 12GB / 16GB GDDR6 depending on tier)
- 2025: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070, 5070 Ti, 5080, or 5090 Laptop GPU (up to 24GB GDDR6 on the 5090), with DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation
- All configurations feature a MUX Switch + NVIDIA Advanced Optimus for direct GPU output
Memory (RAM)
- Soldered LPDDR5X — not upgradable. The RAM is fixed to the motherboard on both generations, so the capacity your laptop shipped with is permanent
- 2024: 16GB or 32GB LPDDR5X-7467 (max 32GB)
- 2025: 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB LPDDR5X-8000 depending on config (max 64GB)
Storage
- M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD (user-replaceable)
- 2024: 512GB / 1TB / 2TB — two M.2 2280 slots
- 2025: 1TB / 2TB — single M.2 2280 slot on most configs
Display & audio
Display
Both generations use the same headline ROG Nebula 16-inch panel: 2.5K (2560 × 1600, WQXGA), 16:10 aspect ratio, OLED, 240Hz refresh, 0.2ms response, G-SYNC, 100% DCI-P3, Pantone Validated, and Dolby Vision HDR. A small number of entry 2024 units shipped with a 2.5K IPS panel instead of OLED — check yours if you're unsure, since the OLED panel is worth more.
Audio
Six-speaker system (two force-canceling woofers plus tweeters) with Dolby Atmos and Smart Amp technology, tuned for the thin chassis with surprisingly strong output for its size.
Ports & connectivity
The G16's port layout is largely shared between the two years, split across both sides of the slim chassis.
- 1× Power adapter input (DC-in, barrel connector)
- 1× HDMI 2.1 (FRL)
- 1× USB-C Thunderbolt 4 (2024) / Thunderbolt / USB4 40 Gbps (2025) — both support DisplayPort and USB Power Delivery charging
- 1× 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack
- 1× USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (with DisplayPort + Power Delivery)
- 2× USB-A 3.2 Gen 2
- 1× microSD card reader (UHS-II) — note this is a microSD reader, not a full-size SD slot
Wi-Fi 6E (2024) Wi-Fi 7 (2025) Bluetooth 5.3 / 5.4 1080p IR webcam (Windows Hello)
Battery, build & more
Battery & charging
90Wh battery on both generations. Charging is handled by a compact USB-C adapter on lower-tier GPUs (100W–140W) or a larger barrel-plug adapter on higher-tier RTX configs (200W on 2024 top models, up to 240W on 2025 top models). Including the correct original charger meaningfully helps your offer.
Keyboard & touchpad
Full-size backlit chiclet keyboard (single-zone RGB) with 1.7mm travel and a large glass ClickPad. The 2025 model swaps the right Ctrl key for a dedicated Copilot key — a quick way to spot a 2025 unit.
Cooling
Tri-fan or dual-fan design (varies by GPU tier) with a vapor chamber on higher-end models, liquid-metal thermal compound on the CPU, and ROG's Armoury Crate control software.
Weight & dimensions
≈ 1.85–2.0 kg (4.1–4.4 lb) depending on config. Roughly 354 × 246 × 15–17 mm — a genuinely thin-and-light 16-inch gaming laptop with a CNC aluminum unibody.
