The Alienware 17 R5 (2018) was the most powerful version of Alienware's classic 17.3-inch gaming laptop, introducing Intel's first mobile Core i9 processor — overclockable to 5 GHz — alongside factory-overclocked NVIDIA GTX 10-series graphics. Wrapped in the iconic hinge-forward aluminum chassis with a redesigned 13-zone AlienFX lighting system, it shipped in several tiered configurations, so your exact build determines the offer. Frequently asked questions

01 How do I confirm I have the Alienware 17 R5 and not an earlier or later model?
Flip the laptop over and read the service tag / model label on the bottom panel. The R5 is the 2018 model — the last of the thick "hinge-forward" 17-inch chassis — and the first to offer an 8th-gen Intel Core i9 (the i9-8950HK). Later 17-inch Alienwares moved to the thinner m17 and x17 designs. Our guide to finding your laptop's model number walks you through it.
02 Does my Alienware 17 R5 need to be in working condition to sell it?
Not necessarily. We buy laptops in a range of conditions, including those with cracked screens, battery issues, or units that won't power on. Select the condition that matches your device during the quote above — that determines your offer, and our team confirms it on inspection.
03 Should I remove my drives or wipe my data before shipping?
We recommend backing up your files and signing out of your accounts first. You don't need to remove the SSD or HDD — every device we receive goes through certified data erasure. You can read exactly how we handle it on our data erasure protocols page.
04 Does a better GPU, CPU, or more RAM increase my offer?
Yes. The graphics card is the biggest value driver — a GTX 1080 configuration is worth considerably more than a GTX 1060. An overclockable Core i9-8950HK, higher RAM, a QHD or 4K display, and Tobii eye-tracking also raise the value. Select the components that match what's actually installed when you build your quote.
05 How and when do I get paid?
Once we receive and inspect your Alienware 17 R5, payment is issued within two business days. You can choose to be paid by check, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or CashApp. Shipping to us is always free and insured with a prepaid label.
