The Apple iPad mini (5th generation) — widely called the iPad mini 5 — was announced and released on March 18, 2019, alongside the iPad Air 3. It kept the thin 7.9-inch design of the mini 4 but dramatically upgraded the internals: the A12 Bionic chip, a better display with True Tone and wide color (P3), and — for the first time on a mini — support for the Apple Pencil (1st generation). It keeps the classic design of its era: a Home button with Touch ID, a Lightning port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It came in Space Gray, Silver, and Gold. Because storage and connectivity are the two factors that move its resale price, select your configuration using the tool above to view an instant cash offer for your exact device.
Identify your exact iPad mini 5
The iPad mini 5 came in a single 7.9-inch size, so the model number on the back tells you which connectivity version you have. Open Settings > General > About > Model Number and tap once to reveal the A-number, or read the small text on the back:
Wi-Fi
- Model A2133
- No SIM tray, no GPS
Wi-Fi + Cellular
- Model A2124 / A2126 (China: A2125)
- Adds nano-SIM tray (with Apple SIM & eSIM), LTE, and GPS/GNSS
Don't confuse the mini 5 with the look-alike mini 4 — they share nearly identical exteriors, so the A-number is the reliable tell. The mini 5 is distinguished by its A12 Bionic chip, True Tone display, and Apple Pencil support. Also note the newer mini 6 is a different all-screen design with USB-C.
