The Apple MacBook Air (M2, 2022) — model identifier Mac14,2, board ID A2681 — launched in July 2022 as the first total redesign of the Air in years, swapping the old tapered wedge for a flat-edge, uniformly thin aluminum chassis with MagSafe charging and a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display. Built around Apple's M2 system-on-chip in a silent, fanless body, it became the default everyday Mac for millions. Because the GPU, RAM, and SSD were all chosen at checkout and soldered to the logic board — permanently, with no upgrade path — your exact configuration sets the resale value. Configure your model using the tool above for an instant cash offer.

Confirm you're on the right page first. This 13-inch M2 Air is easy to confuse with three look-alikes, and the wrong page will misquote your device:

  • The MacBook Air (M1, 2020) uses the older tapered wedge shape with a 13.3-inch screen and USB-C charging (no MagSafe). If your Air gets thinner toward the front and has no MagSafe port, it's the M1 — a different sell page.
  • The 15-inch MacBook Air (M2, 2023) shares this exact design language but has a larger 15.3-inch screen and six speakers. It has its own page.
  • The 13-inch MacBook Air (M3, 2024) is physically identical to this 2022 model but runs the newer M3 chip. Check your chip in About This Mac before quoting.

Core hardware configurations

Chip (CPU)

  • Apple M2 — single CPU option across the entire 2022 line
  • 8-core CPU (4 performance + 4 efficiency cores)
  • 16-core Neural Engine, 100GB/s memory bandwidth
  • Fanless design — silent under load, no configurable CPU tiers

Graphics (GPU)

  • 8-core GPU — base configuration
  • 10-core GPU — factory upgrade option
  • This is the one compute tier that varies by unit and affects value — check yours in About This Mac → More Info

Memory (Unified RAM)

  • 8GB, 16GB, or 24GB unified memory (factory-configured)
  • Soldered onto the M2 package — not user-upgradable or replaceable
  • The capacity you bought is permanent; verify it before quoting

Storage (SSD)

  • 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB SSD (factory-configured)
  • Soldered NAND — not removable or upgradable
  • Note: the base 256GB tier uses a single NAND chip and reads/writes slower than higher-capacity tiers

Display & audio

Display

13.6-inch Liquid Retina LED-backlit IPS display at 2560 × 1664 native resolution (224 ppi). 500 nits brightness, support for 1 billion colors, Wide color (P3), and True Tone. 60Hz refresh, with a camera notch at the top housing the webcam.

Audio

Four-speaker sound system with wide stereo sound. Supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos and dynamic head tracking with compatible AirPods. Three-mic array with directional beamforming.

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I confirm mine is the M2 (2022) and not the M1, 15-inch, or M3 version?
Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner and choose About This Mac. The 2022 model reports "MacBook Air (M2, 2022)" with an Apple M2 chip — model identifier Mac14,2. If it says M1 or M3, you have a different model. Two quick physical checks: this Air has a flat, uniform thickness and a MagSafe charging port on the left — the older M1 Air tapers toward the front and has no MagSafe. The 13.6-inch screen (vs. 15.3-inch) separates it from the larger 2023 Air. The bottom engraving reads Model A2681. See our guide to finding your gadget's model for help.
02 Can I upgrade the RAM or storage before selling — or after I buy it back?
No. On every M2 MacBook Air, both the unified memory and the SSD are soldered directly onto the logic board and were permanently set when the machine was configured at purchase. There are no slots, no removable drives, and no aftermarket upgrade path — the 8GB / 16GB / 24GB RAM tier and the 256GB–2TB storage tier your Air shipped with are the figures that determine its value. The GPU (8-core or 10-core) was also locked at checkout. Just select the options your device actually has in the tool above.
03 How should I wipe my MacBook Air and sign out of my Apple Account before shipping?
Before boxing it up, back up anything you need, then sign out of your Apple Account and turn off Find My / Activation Lock, and erase the Mac. The cleanest method is Erase All Content and Settings (System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset), which removes your data and disables Activation Lock in one step. Because the SSD is soldered in, do not attempt to remove the drive — our team performs certified software sanitization on every incoming Mac. Full details are on our data erasure protocols page.
04 Which configurations raise my MacBook Air's trade-in value the most?
Memory and storage drive the value on the M2 Air. A 16GB or 24GB unified-memory configuration paired with a 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB SSD commands a meaningfully higher payout than the base 8GB / 256GB build. The 10-core GPU upgrade adds a modest premium over the 8-core base. Clean cosmetic condition, a healthy battery, and the original MagSafe charger also help your final offer.
05 What is the turnaround process for my cash payout?
Once your MacBook Air reaches our diagnostics lab and our intake team completes functional and cosmetic testing, payment is approved within two working days. We pay out through fast electronic channels — PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or CashApp — or by physical check mailed to you. Your prepaid shipping label is free and fully insured end to end.
