The Apple MacBook Pro (2026) is the M5 Pro and M5 Max generation, announced on March 3, 2026 and on sale from March 11, 2026 in two screen sizes. The 14-inch ships as model A3426 with M5 Pro or A3427 with M5 Max; the 16-inch ships as model A3428 with M5 Pro or A3429 with M5 Max. Apple labels these machines "MacBook Pro (14-inch, M5 Pro or M5 Max)" and "MacBook Pro (16-inch, M5 Pro or M5 Max)" — the year is not part of the official name, so your Mac reports the chip rather than "2026". This generation moved to three Thunderbolt 5 ports at up to 120Gb/s, Apple's N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and an XDR display that now reaches 1000 nits for standard content outdoors, with a nano-texture finish available as a factory option. Because the chip, the memory, the SSD, and the display coating were all chosen once at checkout and cannot be changed afterward, your exact configuration is what sets the resale value. Select your screen size, chip, memory, storage, and condition in the tool above for an instant cash offer.

Not sure a buyback service is a real option? Gadget Salvation has bought used electronics directly from consumers since 2008. We are not a marketplace and not a consignment shop — we purchase your MacBook Pro outright for cash. You get a firm quote here, a free insured prepaid shipping label, and payment within two business days of inspection. No listings, no buyer haggling, no seller fees, and no chargebacks weeks later. See how the process works, or read our comparison of selling a used MacBook Pro online versus in person.

One honest note on timing. These are high-value machines, and high-value machines shed the most dollars per month early in their life — a 10% drop on a professional configuration is real money. If you are already planning to part with yours, selling sooner almost always nets more than waiting.

Confirm your exact MacBook Pro before you quote

You do not need to open anything or read fine print. Click the Apple menu () at the top-left of your screen and choose About This Mac. That window names your chip and your machine. The chip line must read Apple M5 Pro or Apple M5 Max — those exact words. If it reads anything else, this is not the right page for your laptop. If your Mac will not power on, turn it over and read the model number etched on the underside.

Two checks that settle it, and one that does not. The chip name in About This Mac and the A-number on the underside are both reliable. Matching your laptop to a photo is not — Apple has kept this enclosure, its two finishes, its port layout, and its display size consistent across years, so appearance alone will not tell you which machine you have. A useful third check: look at the USB-C ports. This generation uses Thunderbolt 5, which you can confirm in System Information → Thunderbolt in a few seconds. Together with the chip name, that is a solid confirmation. If any of these do not match, browse the MacBook Pro category to find your machine, or request a custom quote and we will place it for you. Our find your gadget's model page walks through every method.

Display & audio

Display

Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED panel at 254 pixels per inch on both sizes, with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and ProMotion adaptive refresh up to 120Hz. The 14-inch runs 3024 × 1964; the 16-inch runs 3456 × 2234. Both deliver 1000 nits sustained full-screen and 1600 nits peak for HDR content, plus up to 1000 nits for standard content outdoors. 1 billion colors, P3 wide color, and True Tone throughout.

Nano-texture option

A nano-texture display was available as a factory-configured upgrade on both sizes. It is etched into the glass itself, so it cannot be added or removed later — and machines built with it shipped with a polishing cloth in the box. If your screen has a distinctly matte, non-reflective surface rather than a glossy one, you have the nano-texture option, and it is worth selecting accurately because it changes the value.

Audio

High-fidelity six-speaker sound system with force-cancelling woofers and wide stereo sound, on both sizes. Supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos on the built-in speakers and dynamic head tracking with supported AirPods. Studio-quality three-mic array with a high signal-to-noise ratio and directional beamforming, plus Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum microphone modes.

Ports & connectivity

A full professional port array. MagSafe 3 keeps charging separate from the USB-C ports, so all three stay free for displays and storage.

Left side
  • 1× MagSafe 3 charging port
  • 2× Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) (charging, DisplayPort 2.1, Thunderbolt 5 and USB 4 up to 120Gb/s)
  • 1× 3.5mm headphone jack (advanced support for high-impedance headphones)
Right side
  • 1× SDXC card slot
  • 1× HDMI port (supports multichannel audio output)
  • 1× Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C)

External display support differs by chip. With M5 Pro, the machine drives up to three external displays alongside the built-in screen at full resolution — three at 6K/60Hz or 4K/144Hz, or one at up to 8K/60Hz, 5K/120Hz, or 4K/240Hz plus a second at 5K/120Hz or 4K/200Hz. With M5 Max, that rises to four external displays, or two at up to 8K/60Hz. Either chip can run its full display count from a single Thunderbolt port.

Not present on this machine: no USB-A ports, no Ethernet jack, and no Face ID — authentication is handled by the Touch ID button on the keyboard.

Battery, build & more

Battery & charging

The 14-inch carries a 72.4Wh battery, rated up to 22 hours of video streaming with M5 Pro or 20 hours with M5 Max. It ships with a 70W adapter on the 15-core M5 Pro configuration and a 96W adapter on everything else. The 16-inch carries a 100Wh battery (99.6Wh actual), rated up to 24 hours with M5 Pro or 22 hours with M5 Max, and always ships with a 140W adapter. Include whichever adapter came in your box — these are expensive to replace separately and a missing charger reduces the offer.

Camera & mic

12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View support and 1080p HD video recording, driven by an advanced image signal processor with computational video. Paired with a studio-quality three-mic array. There is no Face ID.

Keyboard & trackpad

Backlit Magic Keyboard with 78 ANSI keys (79 ISO), including a full-height physical function row and an ambient light sensor, with Touch ID at the top right. Large Force Touch trackpad with pressure sensing, Force clicks, and Multi-Touch gestures.

Finishes

Space Black or Silver on both sizes. Space Black uses a darker anodization with a fingerprint-resistant coating. Note that finish does not confirm your model year — always verify the chip name in About This Mac.

Dimensions

14-inch: 0.61 × 12.31 × 8.71 in (1.55 × 31.26 × 22.12 cm). 16-inch: 0.66 × 14.01 × 9.77 in (1.68 × 35.57 × 24.81 cm).

Build & materials

Aluminum unibody enclosure with an active cooling system. Apple lists 45% recycled content overall, including 100% recycled aluminum in the enclosure, 100% recycled cobalt in the battery, and 100% recycled copper in multiple printed circuit boards. Runs macOS Tahoe 26 with Apple Intelligence support.

How the Gadget Salvation MacBook Pro trade-in works

Most people assume selling a laptop means either a marketplace listing or a store-credit trade-in. There is a third option, and it is the one we have run since 2008: a straight cash buyback, entirely online.

  • Get an instant quote. Choose your screen size, chip, memory, storage, and condition in the tool above. The number you see is a firm commitment, not an opening bid.
  • Ship it free. We email a prepaid, fully insured UPS label. You never pay for shipping or insurance. Our packing and shipping instructions explain how to protect the display in transit.
  • We inspect and pay. Our technicians verify the configuration and condition, then release payment within two business days by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, or a mailed company check.
  • Your data is destroyed. Every incoming drive goes through certified sanitization — see our data erasure protocols.

No listing fees, no final-value fees, no payment-processing cut, no meeting strangers, and no chargeback risk after the fact — which matters more than usual on a machine at this price point. If you want to weigh the alternatives first, our blog covers where to sell a MacBook Pro for cash, how and where to trade in an Apple MacBook, and how Apple Trade In works online — worth knowing that Apple pays in store credit rather than cash. Clearing out a studio, an agency, or a classroom? Use bulk selling, corporate device buyback, or school device buyback.

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I confirm which MacBook Pro I have — chip and screen size?
Click the Apple menu () at the top-left of your screen and choose About This Mac. Read the chip line carefully: it should say Apple M5 Pro or Apple M5 Max. Those two words after "M5" matter, and they are the difference between two very different offers — so read the full name rather than glancing at it. One thing that trips people up: Apple did not put a year in this machine's name, so your Mac will report "MacBook Pro (14-inch, M5 Pro or M5 Max)" rather than "2026". That is the right machine for this page. If it will not power on, flip it over and read the etched model number: A3426 or A3427 for the 14-inch, A3428 or A3429 for the 16-inch. Screen size is straightforward — 14.2 inches versus 16.2 inches, with the 16-inch weighing more than a pound extra. Our find your gadget's model page covers every method if you get stuck.
02 My MacBook Pro looks just like the photos — is that enough to go on?
No, and on the Pro line this is the mistake that costs the most money, because the gap between configurations here is measured in hundreds of dollars. Apple has kept this enclosure, its two finishes, its screen sizes, and its port layout consistent across years, so appearance, color, and screen size cannot tell you which machine you have. Three checks that can, in order of speed: (1) the chip line in About This Mac must read Apple M5 Pro or Apple M5 Max — not "M5" on its own, which is a different machine entirely and belongs on a different page; (2) the model number etched on the underside must be A3426, A3427, A3428, or A3429; and (3) open System Information → Thunderbolt and confirm the ports report Thunderbolt 5. If any of those do not line up, this is not your page — browse the MacBook Pro category to find your machine, or request a custom quote and we will place it for you. An accurate selection now is what makes the quoted number the number you actually get paid.
03 Will you buy a MacBook Pro with a cracked screen, dents, or a fault?
Yes. Damage does not disqualify your laptop — it only changes the number, and on a machine at this specification level a damaged unit still carries substantial value. We buy Pros with cracked or delaminated XDR panels, dented lids and worn corners, batteries that no longer hold a charge, dead or sticky keys, unresponsive trackpads, Thunderbolt ports that will not connect, failed SD or HDMI ports, liquid exposure, and units that will not power on at all. The logic board, the display assembly, and the enclosure are all recoverable. Just select the honest cosmetic grade and tick every issue that applies in the tool above — describing damage accurately up front is what makes the quoted offer the final offer. Two specifics worth flagging: if your machine has the nano-texture display, note that its etched coating can be permanently marked by the wrong cleaning cloth or solvent, so mention any hazing or streaking rather than trying to buff it out; and if the battery has visibly swollen or lifted the trackpad or bottom cover, tell us and pack with extra padding, since that is a safety matter as well as a pricing one. More in our post on where to sell a broken laptop.
04 Which configurations are worth the most, and what do sellers usually get wrong?
The chip tier dominates. An M5 Max commands a far higher payout than an M5 Pro, and within the Max tier the 40-core GPU sits well above the 32-core. After the chip, large unified memory (64GB or 128GB) and big SSDs (4TB and 8TB) add the most, and the 16-inch generally holds more value than the 14-inch at the same chip. Here is what many people do not realize: because the memory and the SSD are soldered to the logic board, a 24GB machine is permanently a 24GB machine. Someone who needs 128GB cannot buy a smaller configuration and add to it later — they have to pay for it up front, and only a narrow slice of these machines were ever built that way. That scarcity is exactly why maxed-out units are worth disproportionately more used, and it is the single most common reason sellers undervalue what they are holding. Three more factors that move the number: the nano-texture display, which was a paid factory option and cannot be retrofitted; battery health; and including the original power adapter, since the 96W and 140W bricks are costly to replace on their own. For how the Pro line compares across Apple's range on residual value, see our breakdown of which used Apple Mac retains the most value.
05 How do I erase my data and sign out of my Apple Account, and when do I get paid?
Back up anything you want to keep, then run Erase All Content and Settings from System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset. That single step wipes your data, signs you out of your Apple Account, and turns off Find My and Activation Lock together. This matters more than people expect: a Mac still locked to your Apple Account cannot be reset or resold by anyone else, so we would have to return it to you before we could pay. If the machine will not boot, just tell us and we will handle the lock during inspection. Do not try to remove the SSD — the storage is soldered in place and cannot be taken out; our technicians run certified sanitization on every incoming drive instead, as described on our data erasure protocols page. If this Mac was issued by an employer, an agency, or a school, confirm it has been released from MDM or Apple Business Manager enrollment before shipping, or it will stay locked to that organization no matter how thoroughly it is wiped — this is common on professional machines and is the most frequent cause of a delayed payout on this model. Once your laptop reaches our lab and passes inspection, payment is approved within two business days by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, or a mailed check, and your prepaid label is free and fully insured. Our checklist on what to do before selling your MacBook Pro for cash covers the rest.
