The ASUS ROG Strix G15 is ASUS's mainstream 15.6-inch Republic of Gamers laptop, and this page covers three distinct generations sold under the same name across 2020, 2021, and 2022. The 2020 G512 generation runs 10th-generation Intel Core processors (model numbers G512LI, G512LU, G512LV, G512LW, G512LWS). The 2021 G513 generation switched entirely to AMD Ryzen (G513IH, G513IC, G513IE, G513IM on Ryzen 4000, and G513QC, G513QE, G513QM, G513QR on Ryzen 5000, plus the all-AMD G513QY Advantage Edition with Radeon graphics). The 2022 G513R refresh moved to Ryzen 6000 and DDR5 memory (G513RC, G513RM, G513RW, G513RS). Because the chassis kept the same name for three years while the processor, graphics, memory type, and display all changed underneath it, your exact configuration — not the name on the lid — is what determines your payout. Many people don't realize you can sell a used gaming laptop like this online for cash instead of letting it sit in a closet losing value every month. Select your processor and graphics card in the tool above to see an instant cash offer for your exact machine, or read on to identify which one you own.

Which ROG Strix G15 do you have?

You don't need to know anything about computers to answer this. Close the laptop, turn it upside down, and read the printed label on the bottom cover. You are looking for a code that starts with G512 or G513, usually followed by two more letters (for example G512LV or G513QM). Those letters are the whole story:

G512 — the 2020 generation

  • G512LI — Intel Core i5-10300H or i7-10750H, GeForce GTX 1650 Ti
  • G512LU — Intel Core i7-10750H, GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
  • G512LV — Intel Core i7-10750H, GeForce RTX 2060
  • G512LW — Intel Core i7-10750H, GeForce RTX 2070
  • G512LWS — Intel Core i7-10750H, GeForce RTX 2070 Super
  • Quick tell: this is the only generation with an Intel processor

G513 — the 2021 generation

  • G513IH — Ryzen 7 4800H, GeForce GTX 1650
  • G513IC — Ryzen 7 4800H, GeForce RTX 3050
  • G513IE — Ryzen 7 4800H, GeForce RTX 3050 Ti
  • G513IM — Ryzen 7 4800H, GeForce RTX 3060
  • G513QC — Ryzen 7 5800H / Ryzen 9 5900HX, RTX 3050
  • G513QE — Ryzen 5000, RTX 3050 Ti
  • G513QM — Ryzen 5000, RTX 3060
  • G513QR — Ryzen 5000, RTX 3070
  • G513QY — Advantage Edition: Ryzen 9 5900HX + AMD Radeon RX 6800M

G513R — the 2022 generation

  • G513RC — Ryzen 7 6800H / Ryzen 9 6900HX, RTX 3050
  • G513RM — Ryzen 6000, RTX 3060
  • G513RW — Ryzen 6000, RTX 3070 Ti
  • G513RS — Ryzen 6000, RTX 3080
  • Quick tell: the 2022 machines are the only ones using DDR5 memory and Wi-Fi 6E

If the bottom label is worn off

  • Press the Windows key, type System Information, press Enter, and read the "System Model" line
  • Or open Settings › System › About and read the processor name — Intel 10th-gen means 2020, Ryzen 4000 or 5000 means 2021, Ryzen 6000 means 2022
  • Step-by-step help: our ASUS model number guide and our blog walkthrough on where to find your ASUS laptop's model number

Core hardware configurations

Processor (CPU)

  • 2020 (G512): Intel Core i5-10300H — 4 cores, 8 threads, up to 4.5 GHz
  • 2020 (G512): Intel Core i7-10750H — 6 cores, 12 threads, up to 5.0 GHz
  • 2021 (G513I): AMD Ryzen 7 4800H — 8 cores, 16 threads, 12MB cache, up to 4.2 GHz
  • 2021 (G513Q): AMD Ryzen 7 5800H or Ryzen 9 5900HX — 8 cores, 16 threads, 20MB cache, up to 4.6 GHz
  • 2022 (G513R): AMD Ryzen 7 6800H or Ryzen 9 6900HX — 8 cores, 16 threads, 20MB cache, up to 4.9 GHz

Graphics (GPU)

  • 2020: GTX 1650 Ti 4GB · GTX 1660 Ti 6GB · RTX 2060 6GB · RTX 2070 8GB · RTX 2070 Super 8GB
  • 2021: GTX 1650 4GB · RTX 3050 4GB · RTX 3050 Ti 4GB · RTX 3060 6GB · RTX 3070 8GB
  • 2021 Advantage Edition: AMD Radeon RX 6800M 12GB — the largest video memory in the whole series
  • 2022: RTX 3050 4GB · RTX 3060 6GB · RTX 3070 Ti 8GB · RTX 3080 8GB
  • The 2022 models add a MUX switch alongside NVIDIA Optimus; 2021 NVIDIA models are Optimus only

Memory (RAM)

  • 2020: DDR4-2933 SO-DIMM, two slots, up to 32GB
  • 2021: DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM, two slots, up to 32GB
  • 2022: DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM, two slots, up to 32GB
  • Good news for resale: memory is socketed rather than soldered on this series, so an upgraded 32GB configuration is worth genuinely more than a stock 8GB or 16GB unit

Storage

  • M.2 NVMe solid state drive — PCIe 3.0 on 2020 and 2021 models, faster PCIe 4.0 on 2022 models
  • Shipping capacities of 512GB or 1TB, with 256GB on some entry SKUs
  • Two M.2 slots, so many owners added a second drive — that counts toward your offer
  • Hardware note: ASUS states that because of components near the M.2 slot, only single-sided SSDs fit

Display & audio

Display

Every ROG Strix G15 uses a 15.6-inch 16:9 anti-glare IPS-level panel — there is no touchscreen and no OLED option anywhere in the series. The 2020 G512 shipped with FHD (1920 × 1080) at either 144Hz or 240Hz. The 2021 and 2022 G513 models offer FHD at 144Hz on entry GTX configurations, FHD at 300Hz with full sRGB coverage, or WQHD (2560 × 1440) at 165Hz with 100% DCI-P3 coverage. The WQHD 165Hz panel and the 300Hz panel both carry a meaningful premium over the 144Hz screen when we price a trade-in, so it is worth checking which one you have.

Audio

Two down-firing speakers with a built-in array microphone. The 2020 and entry 2021 models use 2 × 1.5W drivers; higher 2021 and all 2022 configurations use 2 × 4W drivers with Smart Amp Technology. Dolby Atmos and AI noise-cancelling microphone processing are included across the series, with Hi-Res headphone certification added on the 2022 models.

Ports & connectivity

ASUS routes the display and power connections out of the rear hinge area on this chassis so cables stay clear of your mouse hand, with the everyday USB ports along the left edge. The right edge is deliberately left empty for mouse clearance.

Rear edge
  • 1× HDMI 2.0b video output
  • 1× USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort output (2021 and 2022 models add 100W power delivery charging and G-SYNC support; the 2020 G512 supports display output only, not charging)
  • 1× RJ-45 Ethernet LAN port (present on 2020, 2021 Ryzen 5000, and all 2022 models; ASUS lists several 2021 Ryzen 4000 "G513I" configurations without it)
  • 1× Proprietary barrel power connector (DC-in)
Left edge & what's absent
  • 2× or 3× USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (three on 2020 and 2021 models, two on 2022 models, which use a second USB-C instead)
  • 1× 3.5mm combo headphone and microphone jack
  • No SD or microSD card reader on any model in this series
  • No Thunderbolt — the USB-C port is USB 3.2 Gen 2 only
  • No built-in webcam — see the note below

About the missing webcam: no ROG Strix G15 of any year has a camera built into the screen bezel. This is normal and expected for this line, not a fault, and it does not reduce your offer. ASUS bundled a separate clip-on 1080p USB webcam in the box with 2021 and 2022 models. If you still have that camera, mouse, or backpack, you're welcome to include them, but they are not required and their absence will not change your quote.

Wi-Fi 6 (2020 & 2021) Wi-Fi 6E (2022) Bluetooth 5.0 / 5.2 / 5.3 Aura Sync RGB light bar Firmware TPM

Battery, build & more

Battery

The 2020 G512 shipped with either a 48Wh 3-cell or a 66Wh 4-cell battery depending on configuration. The 2021 and 2022 G513 models use a 56Wh 4-cell pack on entry GTX and RTX 3050 builds, or a much larger 90Wh 4-cell pack on RTX 3060 and above. A battery that no longer holds a charge is extremely common on gaming laptops of this age and is handled by the condition questions in the quote tool.

Charger

Power bricks vary by graphics tier: 150W or 200W on entry models, 240W on RTX 3060 class, and 280W on RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3080, and Radeon RX 6800M builds. Because these are high-wattage proprietary barrel-plug adapters that are expensive to replace, including the original charger meaningfully increases your offer. Answer the "Charger Included?" question above honestly either way.

Keyboard & lighting

Full-size backlit chiclet keyboard with a number pad. Entry configurations use 4-zone RGB backlighting; RTX 3060 and higher models use per-key RGB, and several of those add ASUS NumberPad. All models carry the Aura Sync RGB light bar wrapping the front lip of the chassis, which is the easiest way to recognize a Strix G15 across a room.

Cooling

ROG Intelligent Cooling with dual fans, self-cleaning anti-dust tunnels, and liquid metal thermal compound on the processor for 2021 and 2022 models. Loud fans, rattling bearings, or a machine that runs hot are common after several years of gaming use — mark "Defective Hardware" in the tool above if a fan is failing and the offer adjusts automatically.

Weight

2020 G512: approximately 2.3 kg (5.07 lb). 2021 and 2022 G513: 2.10 kg (4.63 lb) on entry builds with the 56Wh battery, 2.30 kg (5.07 lb) on 90Wh builds, and 2.50 kg (5.51 lb) on the G513QY Advantage Edition.

Dimensions

2021 and 2022 G513: 35.4 × 25.9 × 2.06–2.72 cm (13.94" × 10.20" × 0.81"–1.07"). The 2020 G512 uses a slightly larger footprint at roughly 36.0 × 27.5 cm. Chassis finishes include Original Black, Glacier Blue, and the pink Electro Punk limited edition.

Selling your ROG Strix G15 to Gadget Salvation

Gadget Salvation has been buying used electronics directly from consumers since 2008. We are not a marketplace and not an auction site — we are the buyer. You pick your configuration above, we lock in a firm cash offer, we email you a prepaid and insured shipping label, and you get paid within two business days of your laptop arriving and passing inspection. There are no listing fees, no seller fees, no shipping costs, no negotiating with strangers, and no risk of a chargeback weeks after the sale. Payment goes out by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, or a paper check mailed to you.

If your Strix G15 isn't listed correctly above, or you have several devices to sell at once, you can request a custom quote or read how the process works before you commit. You may also want to compare your options first — our guide on trading in, reselling, or donating an old laptop is an honest look at when each route makes the most sense, and what a used laptop in good condition is actually worth explains how resale pricing is calculated. Frequently asked questions

01 How do I find out exactly which ROG Strix G15 I own?
Close the lid, flip the laptop over, and read the printed label on the bottom cover. You will see a code beginning with G512 or G513 followed by two letters, such as G512LV, G513QM, or G513RW. That code alone tells us the year and the graphics card. If the sticker has rubbed off, press the Windows key, type "System Information," press Enter, and read the "System Model" line — it shows the same code. If neither works, open Settings › System › About and read the processor name instead: an Intel Core i5-10300H or i7-10750H means the 2020 G512, a Ryzen 4000 or 5000 chip means the 2021 G513, and a Ryzen 6000 chip means the 2022 G513R. Our ASUS model number guide shows exactly where to look, and our blog walkthrough includes photos.
02 How do I know this isn't a Strix G17, SCAR 15, Zephyrus G15, or TUF A15?
Several ASUS gaming laptops from these years look almost identical, and quoting the wrong one is the most common mistake we see. Five checks clear it up. First, measure your screen diagonally — if it is 17.3 inches, you have the ROG Strix G17 (model numbers G712 or G713), which is a separate quote. Second, check the bottom label — a code starting with G532 or G533 is the ROG Strix SCAR 15, the premium sibling with an optical-mechanical keyboard and faster 300Hz or 360Hz panels; it is priced separately. Third, a code starting with GA502 or GA503 is the ROG Zephyrus G15, a much thinner all-AMD machine with no light bar. Fourth, a code starting with FA506, FA507, FX506, or FX507 is the TUF Gaming A15 or F15 — a budget line that says TUF, not ROG, on the lid. Fifth, a code starting with G614 is the 2023-and-later ROG Strix G16, which has a 16-inch 16:10 screen rather than a 15.6-inch 16:9 one and is not covered by this page. Still unsure? Request a custom quote and a person will confirm it for you.
03 Will you buy a Strix G15 with a cracked screen, dead battery, or other damage?
Yes. Gaming laptops take a beating and we buy them in every working state. A battery that only runs for twenty minutes, a cracked or flickering screen, fans that howl or rattle, worn-shiny WASD keycaps, dead RGB zones, a light bar that no longer lights, missing rubber feet, scuffs on the lid, a laptop that only runs plugged in, or one that will not boot at all — all of these still have real cash value, because the processor, graphics chip, memory, and SSD retain worth independently of the chassis. Set "Functionality" to Defective in the tool above and check the specific boxes that apply. Please describe the condition accurately rather than optimistically; an honest description means the offer you see is the amount you actually get paid, with no revised offer after inspection.
04 What raises the trade-in value of a ROG Strix G15 the most?
The graphics card is by far the biggest lever — an RTX 3080, RTX 3070 Ti, or Radeon RX 6800M configuration is worth several times what a GTX 1650 build brings, which is why the GPU dropdown appears before anything else. After that, the model year matters: a 2022 G513R with DDR5 memory and a MUX switch outperforms a 2021 G513 with the same GPU tier and is priced accordingly. Many people don't realize three smaller things also move the number. The original 240W or 280W charger is expensive to source separately, so including it adds real money. Upgraded memory and storage count — because RAM and SSDs are socketed on this series rather than soldered, a unit someone upgraded to 32GB and 2TB is genuinely worth more than the stock configuration, so don't strip it before shipping. And the display panel matters: the WQHD 165Hz and FHD 300Hz screens carry a premium over the base 144Hz panel. If you're weighing us against other routes, our roundup of the best laptop trade-in offers compares the major programs, and our look at the best ASUS ROG laptops of that era puts your machine in context.
05 How do I wipe my data, and when do I get paid?
Before you box it up, copy anything you want to keep — game saves, screenshots, documents — to an external drive or cloud storage, then sign out of your Microsoft account, Steam, and any other launchers. Deactivate licensed software if you plan to use it on a new machine. Then run Settings › System › Recovery › Reset this PC and choose to remove everything. If your laptop won't boot, send it anyway and skip this step. You do not need to remove the M.2 SSDs yourself, and please leave them installed — a machine arriving with no storage is quoted as missing hardware. Every drive we receive is securely erased during processing regardless of what you did beforehand; the details are in our data erasure protocols. Once you accept your offer we email a free, insured, prepaid shipping label — see our shipping instructions for how to pack a gaming laptop safely. Payment is issued within two business days of your device arriving and passing inspection, by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, or a mailed check.
