Charger Included?

The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15 is the 15.6-inch esports flagship of the Republic of Gamers lineup, and the trade-in tool above covers all three generations built between 2020 and 2022: the 2020 G532 series (10th Gen Intel Core with GeForce RTX 20-Series), the 2021 G533Q series (AMD Ryzen 5000 with GeForce RTX 30-Series), and the 2022 G533Z series (12th Gen Intel Core with GeForce RTX 30-Series). These three generations look remarkably similar from across a room but differ enormously in resale value, so identifying yours correctly is the single most important step. If you have never sold a laptop this way before, our trade-in service is simple: you pick your exact configuration below, we send you a free insured shipping label, and you get paid — no listings, no buyers to meet, no marketplace fees. Select your processor and graphics card in the tool above to see an instant cash offer for your specific machine.

Which ROG Strix SCAR 15 do I have?

Every SCAR 15 has its full model number printed on the sticker on the underside of the laptop, usually near the center or along the rear edge, in the format G532LWS, G533QS, or G533ZW. If the sticker is worn off, press the Windows key + R, type msinfo32, press Enter, and read the "System Model" line. The four cards below let you match your machine even if you cannot find any label at all.

✅ 2020 — SCAR 15 (G532 series)

  • Model numbers: G532LV, G532LW, G532LWS
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-10750H, i7-10875H, or i9-10980HK (10th Generation)
  • Graphics: GeForce RTX 2060, RTX 2070, or RTX 2070 Super
  • Dead giveaway: the keyboard is a normal soft chiclet keyboard, the network port is standard Gigabit, and there is no Thunderbolt port anywhere on the machine
  • Sold in Black, Glacier Blue, and Electro Punk (pink) finishes

✅ 2021 — SCAR 15 (G533Q series)

  • Model numbers: G533QM, G533QR, G533QS
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H or AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX
  • Graphics: GeForce RTX 3060, RTX 3070, or RTX 3080
  • Dead giveaway: this is the only SCAR 15 with an optical-mechanical keyboard. The keys click audibly and travel much further than a normal laptop keyboard. If your keyboard feels like a desktop gaming keyboard, you have the 2021 model

✅ 2022 — SCAR 15 (G533Z series)

  • Model numbers: G533ZM, G533ZW, G533ZS, G533ZX
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-12700H or i9-12900H (12th Generation)
  • Graphics: GeForce RTX 3060, RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3080, or RTX 3080 Ti
  • Dead giveaway: a Thunderbolt 4 port (a small lightning-bolt symbol beside a USB-C-shaped port) and a 2.5G Ethernet jack. No earlier SCAR 15 has either one
  • Shipped with snap-on "Armor Caps" you could swap on the rear corner

❌ Not a SCAR 15 if…

  • Your screen measures 17.3 inches — that is a SCAR 17 (G732 or G733), a different quote page
  • Your model number begins G512 or G513 — that is a ROG Strix G15, the non-SCAR sibling
  • Your model number begins G531 — that is the 2019 SCAR III with a 9th Gen Intel processor
  • There is no small removable key slotted into the right-hand side of the chassis — every genuine SCAR 15 has a Keystone slot there

Full model number reference

ASUS encodes the graphics card into the last one or two letters of the model number. Once you know your model number, you already know your GPU — which is the biggest single factor in your offer.

Reading the sticker

The suffix after the dash (the "-XS96" part) is a regional retail bundle code and does not change your offer. Only the base model number matters. If you are unsure how to read an ASUS label, our guide to finding your ASUS model number walks through it with photos, and our processor identification guide covers checking your CPU inside Windows.

Core hardware configurations

Processor (CPU)

  • 2020 (G532): Intel Core i7-10750H (6 cores / 12 threads) · Core i7-10875H (8 cores / 16 threads) · Core i9-10980HK (8 cores / 16 threads, unlocked, up to 5.3 GHz)
  • 2021 (G533Q): AMD Ryzen 7 5800H (8 cores / 16 threads) · AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX (8 cores / 16 threads, 20MB cache, up to 4.6 GHz, overclockable)
  • 2022 (G533Z): Intel Core i7-12700H · Core i9-12900H (14 cores — 6 performance + 8 efficient, 24MB cache, up to 5.0 GHz)
  • Liquid metal thermal compound was applied to the CPU on all three generations

Graphics (GPU)

  • 2020: RTX 2060 6GB · RTX 2070 8GB · RTX 2070 Super 8GB (115W with ROG Boost)
  • 2021: RTX 3060 6GB · RTX 3070 8GB · RTX 3080 16GB (all 115W, up to 130W with Dynamic Boost)
  • 2022: RTX 3060 6GB (140W) · RTX 3070 Ti 8GB · RTX 3080 8GB · RTX 3080 Ti 16GB (150W with Dynamic Boost)
  • Worth knowing: only the 2022 G533Z has a MUX Switch, which bypasses the integrated graphics for higher frame rates. The 2020 and 2021 models run Optimus only, and this measurably affects what collectors and gamers will pay
  • No SCAR 15 of any year was ever offered with an RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Super — that chip only appeared in the 17-inch SCAR

Memory (RAM)

  • 2020: DDR4-3200, two SO-DIMM slots, maximum 32GB
  • 2021: DDR4-3200, two SO-DIMM slots, maximum 64GB
  • 2022: DDR5-4800, two SO-DIMM slots, maximum 64GB
  • Common factory capacities were 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB
  • Good news for resale: memory is not soldered on any SCAR 15. Both slots are user-accessible, so a RAM upgrade you did yourself still counts toward your offer

Storage

  • 2020: three M.2 slots (PCIe 3.0), two of them RAID 0-capable — the most storage flexibility of any SCAR 15
  • 2021: two M.2 PCIe 3.0 slots with RAID 0 support
  • 2022: two M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots
  • Shipping capacities ranged from 512GB up to 2TB, often as two 1TB drives in RAID 0
  • Limitation to be aware of: because of components mounted next to the M.2 slots, ASUS supports single-sided SSDs only. A double-sided drive may not physically fit

Display & audio

Display

All three generations use a 15.6-inch, 16:9, IPS-level anti-glare panel with 3ms response and Adaptive-Sync. 2020 (G532): Full HD 1920 × 1080 only, at either 240Hz or 300Hz. 2021 (G533Q): Full HD at 300Hz with 100% sRGB coverage, or WQHD 2560 × 1440 at 165Hz with 100% DCI-P3 coverage. 2022 (G533Z): Full HD at 300Hz with 100% sRGB, or WQHD 2560 × 1440 at 240Hz with 100% DCI-P3, both driven through a MUX Switch. The WQHD panels consistently draw stronger offers than the Full HD ones, so it is worth checking which you have before quoting.

Audio

2020: stereo speakers with Smart Amp technology. 2021: a four-driver array — two 4W woofers plus two 2W tweeters — with Dolby Atmos and AI noise cancellation. 2022: a four-speaker system with Smart Amplifier, Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res certification for headphones, and AI noise cancellation. All generations include a built-in array microphone.

Ports & connectivity

ASUS routes the bulkiest cables — power, video, and network — out of the rear of the chassis on all three generations to keep the sides clear for a mouse. The port layout is also one of the fastest ways to tell the generations apart.

2020 & 2021 (G532 / G533Q)
  • 3× USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (up to 5Gbps)
  • 1× USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort (10Gbps; the 2021 model adds Power Delivery, the 2020 model does not charge over USB-C)
  • 1× HDMI 2.0b
  • 1× RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet
  • 1× 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack
  • 1× DC-in power adapter port · Kensington lock slot
2022 (G533Z)
  • 2× USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (up to 5Gbps)
  • 1× USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort and Power Delivery (10Gbps)
  • 1× Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort (40Gbps — exclusive to the 2022 model)
  • 1× HDMI 2.1 FRL
  • 1× RJ-45 2.5G Ethernet
  • 1× 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack · DC-in

Features this laptop lacks in any model year: no SD or microSD card reader, no fingerprint reader, and no optical drive. Neither the 2020 nor the 2021 SCAR 15 has a Thunderbolt port. Critically, none of these laptops has a built-in webcam — the 2020 and 2021 models have no camera at all, and the 2022 model shipped with a separate USB clip-on 1080p60 camera in the box. If you still have that external camera, include it; it adds to your offer.

2020: Wi-Fi 6 (AX201) + Bluetooth 5.0 2021: Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 5.2 2022: Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3 Keystone II slot Aura Sync RGB light bar

Battery, build & more

Battery & charging

2020 (G532): 66Wh 4-cell battery with a 230W or 280W barrel-plug adapter; no USB-C charging. 2021 & 2022 (G533): a much larger 90Wh 4-cell battery, paired with a 240W or 280W barrel adapter depending on graphics tier, plus support for 100W USB-C charging for light use. Including the correct original brick matters — these are high-wattage adapters that are expensive to replace.

Keyboard & lighting

2020: per-key RGB chiclet keyboard with highlighted WASD keys. 2021: per-key RGB optical-mechanical keyboard — the standout feature of that year and a genuine value driver. 2022: back to a per-key RGB chiclet keyboard. All years include Aura Sync lighting across the logo, the front light bar, and the underside bezel glow, plus a NumberPad-capable touchpad.

Camera & mic

No integrated webcam on any generation. The 2020 and 2021 models have none at all. The 2022 G533Z included an external Full HD 1080p 60FPS clip-on camera in the retail box. A built-in array microphone is present across all model years.

Cooling & Keystone

Dual-fan Intelligent Cooling with self-cleaning anti-dust tunnels and liquid metal on the CPU. Every SCAR 15 has a small physical Keystone II key that magnetically docks into the right side of the chassis and unlocks a hidden encrypted drive and lighting profiles. If you still have yours, ship it with the laptop.

Weight

2020 (G532): approximately 2.57 kg (5.7 lb). 2021 & 2022 (G533): approximately 2.30 kg (5.07 lb) — the redesigned chassis shed noticeable weight.

Dimensions

2020 (G532): 360 × 275 × 25 mm (14.19" × 10.83" × 0.98"). 2021 & 2022 (G533): 354 × 259 × 22.6–27.2 mm (13.94" × 10.20" × 0.89"–1.07").

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I find the exact model number of my ROG Strix SCAR 15?
Close the lid and turn the laptop upside down. On the bottom panel, you will find a printed label with a line reading something like "Model: G533QS" or "G532LWS". That five- to six-character code is what we need. Ignore any letters that follow a dash, such as "-XS96" — those are retail bundle codes and do not affect your offer.

If the sticker has rubbed off, there are two easy software checks. Hold the Windows key and press R, type msinfo32, and press Enter — the "System Model" line will show your model number. Alternatively, open Settings, go to System, then About, and read the "Device name" and "Processor" lines. Knowing your processor alone is usually enough: 10th Gen Intel means the 2020 G532, AMD Ryzen 5000 means the 2021 G533Q, and 12th Gen Intel means the 2022 G533Z.
02 How do I make sure I'm not confusing my SCAR 15 with a similar-looking ROG laptop?
ASUS built several gaming laptops in this era that share the same design language, and mixing them up is the most common reason a quote gets corrected at intake. Here is a concrete test for each look-alike:

ROG Strix SCAR 17 (G732, G733): measure your screen diagonally, corner to corner. If it is 17.3 inches rather than 15.6, you have the 17-inch SCAR and need a different quote page. This is also the only SCAR that was ever sold with an RTX 2080 Super — if your graphics card is an RTX 2080 of any kind, you do not have a SCAR 15.

ROG Strix G15 (G512, G513): look at the right-hand edge of the chassis for a small removable plastic key sitting in a slot. That is the Keystone, and only SCAR models have it. The Strix G15 also uses four-zone RGB backlighting rather than individually lit keys — shine a color on one key at a time in Armoury Crate; if whole sections change together, it is a Strix G15, not a SCAR.

ROG Strix SCAR III (G531, 2019): check your processor. A 9th Gen Intel chip such as an i7-9750H means you have the 2019 SCAR III, which is a separate listing.

Telling the three SCAR 15 years apart: press a few keys in the middle of the keyboard. If they click loudly and travel deep like a desktop mechanical keyboard, you have the 2021 G533Q. If the keyboard is soft and shallow, check the ports: a Thunderbolt 4 port (a lightning-bolt icon next to a USB-C port) means 2022, and no Thunderbolt anywhere means 2020.
03 Can I still sell a SCAR 15 with wear, damage, or aftermarket upgrades?
Yes. We buy these laptops in every functional state, and gaming machines in particular tend to arrive with honest wear. Worn key legends on WASD, a hinge that has loosened, fans that have grown loud, a battery that no longer holds a charge, a cracked panel, or a system that will not power on at all — every one of those is a condition you can select in the tool above, and each produces a firm cash figure rather than a maybe.

Upgrades you performed yourself count in your favor, not against you. Both memory slots and all M.2 slots on the SCAR 15 are user-accessible, so if you add RAM or swap in a larger SSD, select the capacity that is currently installed. One caution specific to this chassis: ASUS supports single-sided M.2 drives only, so if you installed a double-sided SSD and it never seated properly, note that in your condition selection. Repasted thermals, replaced fans, and swapped Keystones are all fine.

Do include the original power adapter if you have it. These are 230W to 280W bricks and are costly to source separately, so a unit shipped with its charger is worth meaningfully more than one without.
04 What actually drives the trade-in value of a ROG Strix SCAR 15?
The graphics card is by far the largest lever. An RTX 3080 Ti or RTX 3080 configuration is worth several times what an RTX 2060 model brings, and the jump from RTX 3060 to RTX 3070 Ti alone is substantial. After the GPU, the display panel matters more than most sellers expect: a WQHD 165Hz or 240Hz screen commands a clear premium over the Full HD panels, because those are the units creators and streamers look for on the used market. Processor tier, installed RAM, and total SSD capacity fill in the rest.

Many people don't realize that a trade-in service like ours exists for gaming laptops at all, and assume their only options are a marketplace listing or letting the machine sit in a closet. The math usually favors trading in. A private listing means photographing the laptop, answering messages for weeks, absorbing platform fees of ten to thirteen percent, and carrying the risk of a chargeback or a no-show buyer. With us you pick your configuration, we email you a prepaid insured label, you box it up, and payment goes out within about two business days of our inspection. There are no selling fees and no negotiation. If you want to see how the numbers compare, our guide on estimating your laptop's value and our step-by-step guide to selling a gaming laptop both break it down. You can also browse everything we currently buy on our gaming laptop trade-in page or the wider ASUS ROG category.

One timing note worth acting on: gaming laptops depreciate fastest in the first two years after a new GPU generation launches. If your SCAR 15 is sitting unused, quoting it sooner rather than later is almost always the better financial decision.
05 How do I wipe my data, and when do I get paid?
Before you ship, copy anything you want to keep — game saves, screenshots, project files, recordings — to an external drive or a cloud account, then sign out of your Microsoft account, Steam, and any other services. Deauthorize software licenses if you use anything node-locked. You do not need to open the laptop or remove the M.2 drives yourself, and please do not: our technicians run certified multi-pass sanitization on every drive that comes through the lab. If your SCAR 15 was set up with a BIOS password or ASUS Armoury Crate encryption tied to the Keystone, clear it before shipping so the unit can be tested. You can read the full process on our data erasure protocols page.

Once you accept your quote and check out, we email a free, fully insured prepaid shipping label (our shipping instructions page shows how to pack a gaming laptop safely). After your SCAR 15 arrives and passes inspection, payment is issued within roughly one to two business days by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, or a mailed paper check — whichever you prefer. No fees are taken out of your offer at any point. If you want to see the whole process end-to-end first, our how it works page covers each step.
