The ASUS ROG Zephyrus M GU502 family covers two closely related generations of ASUS's slim 15.6-inch gaming laptop built in the same magnesium-alloy chassis: the 2019 Zephyrus M (models GU502GU, GU502GV, and GU502GW, including the Glacier Blue "Studio Edition") with a 9th-gen Intel Core i7-9750H, and the 2020 Zephyrus M15 (models GU502LU, GU502LV, GU502LW, and GU502LWS) with a 10th-gen Intel Core i7. Graphics range from the GTX 1660 Ti up to the RTX 2070 Super Max-Q depending on the exact model code, and displays span 144Hz and 240Hz Full HD panels plus a 4K option exclusive to the 2020 version — so the letters after "GU502" on your bottom panel directly determine what your laptop is worth. Which Zephyrus do you have? Check before you quote
ASUS used the "Zephyrus" name on many different laptops between 2017 and today, and several of them look nearly identical. The fastest way to be sure: flip your laptop over and read the model code on the bottom sticker.

Core hardware configurations
Processor (CPU)
- Intel Core i7-9750H — 6 cores, 12 threads, up to 4.5 GHz boost (all 2019 models: GU502GU/GV/GW)
- Intel Core i7-10750H — 6 cores, 12 threads, up to 5.0 GHz boost (2020 models: GU502LU/LV/LW/LWS)
- A small number of top-tier 2020 LWS configurations shipped with the 8-core i7-10875H
Graphics (GPU)

- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 — 6GB GDDR6 (GU502GV, GU502LV)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 / RTX 2070 Max-Q — 8GB GDDR6 (GU502GW, GU502LW)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q — 8GB GDDR6 (GU502LWS only, 2020)
- The GPU is locked to the model code — it was never a separate checkbox at checkout, so your bottom sticker tells you exactly which chip is inside
Memory (RAM)
- 8GB or 16GB soldered to the motherboard (varies by configuration) plus one SO-DIMM slot — factory options shipped as 8GB, 16GB, 24GB, or 32GB totals
- DDR4-2666 on 2019 models; DDR4-2933/3200 on 2020 models
- Partially upgradable: the single stick can be swapped or added, but the soldered portion is permanent
Storage
- M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD — 512GB or 1TB factory capacities
- Two internal M.2 slots on both generations; some 2020 configurations shipped with dual 512GB drives in RAID 0
- If a second drive was added, count the total capacity across both when quoting
Display & audio
Display
15.6-inch anti-glare IPS-level panels with slim bezels, Pantone-validated color, and NVIDIA Optimus on every version. The 2019 Zephyrus M offered FHD (1920 × 1080) at 144Hz or 240Hz/3ms with 100% sRGB. The 2020 Zephyrus M15 kept the 144Hz and 240Hz/3ms FHD options and added a 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) 60Hz panel with 100% Adobe RGB aimed at creators — the 4K screen exists only on 2020 models.
Audio
Dual 2.5W stereo speakers with ASUS Smart Amp technology and a built-in array microphone.
Ports & connectivity
Unusually for a laptop this thin, the GU502 keeps a full-size Gigabit Ethernet jack on both generations. Two absences to know about: there is no SD card reader, and the USB-C port is not Thunderbolt — it's USB 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort output and Power Delivery charging support.
- 1× Power adapter input (DC-in)
- 1× RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet
- 1× HDMI 2.0b
- 1× USB-A 3.2
- 1× 3.5mm headphone jack + 1× 3.5mm microphone jack (separate jacks, not a single combo port)
- 1× USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (DisplayPort 1.4 output and Power Delivery — the laptop can trickle-charge over USB-C, but gaming requires the barrel adapter)
- 2× USB-A 3.2
- 1× Kensington lock slot
Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) — 2019 models Wi-Fi 6 (Intel AX201) — 2020 models Bluetooth 5.0 Gigabit Ethernet No card reader No Thunderbolt
Battery, build & more
Battery & charging
4-cell 76 Whr battery on both generations, shipped with a 180W or 230W barrel adapter depending on GPU tier. USB-C Power Delivery charging works for travel and light use.
Camera & mic
The GU502 has no built-in webcam on any model or generation — ASUS omitted it to slim the bezels. Video calls require an external USB camera. A missing webcam on your unit is normal for this model, not a defect.
Keyboard
RGB-backlit chiclet keyboard with Aura Sync lighting, 1.4mm key travel, and dedicated volume and ROG hotkeys above the function row.
Cooling
Self-cleaning dual-fan thermal design with anti-dust tunnels, managed through Armoury Crate performance profiles (Silent, Performance, Turbo).
Weight
≈ 1.9 kg (4.19 lb) for 2019 models; ≈ 2.0 kg (4.4 lb) for 2020 models.
Dimensions & finish
360 × 252 × 18.9 mm (14.2" × 9.9" × 0.74") magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis. Finishes: Brushed Black or Glacier Blue (2019), Prism Black or Prism Gray (2020).
