How to identify your VivoBook Pro 15X (no tech knowledge needed)
Every VivoBook Pro 15X carries a model code that begins with K6501 or M6501. That code is the only thing you truly need. Here is where to find it:
Method 1: Flip the laptop over
- Close the lid and turn the laptop upside down.
- Look at the printed label near the middle or lower edge of the bottom panel.
- Find the line that reads "Model:" — it will show something like K6501ZM, M6501RM, or M6501RR.
- Some labels print the longer retail code instead, such as K6501ZM-EB74 or M6501RR-DB96. The first six characters are what matter.
Method 2: Check it on screen
- Turn the laptop on and click the Windows Start button.
- Type System Information and press Enter.
- Read the line labeled System Model — it will display your K6501 or M6501 code.
- The same window lists your Processor, which is the other answer the quote tool asks for.
Method 3: Check the box or invoice
- The retail carton prints the full SKU on the end-flap barcode label.
- Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, and B&H order confirmations list the SKU in the product title.
- Registered your laptop with ASUS? The model appears in your MyASUS account.
Still unsure? Our ASUS model number guide walks through each step with photos.
✅ Quote it here if your label shows:
- K6501ZM or K6501ZMB — Intel Core i7 12th Gen, RTX 3060
- M6501RM — AMD Ryzen, RTX 3060
- M6501RR — AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, RTX 3070
- Any longer code starting with those six characters, such as K6501ZM-EB74, K6501ZM-OLEDS751, or M6501RR-DB96
- Either screen type — the 2.8K OLED and the FHD 144Hz panel both belong on this page
❌ Use a different page if your label shows
- K6500, M6500, K6502, N6506, Q533 — these are the VivoBook Pro 15 (no "X"), a thinner body with RTX 3050 / 3050 Ti / 4050 / 4060 graphics
- M7601, N7601, K6604 — VivoBook Pro 16X, a 16-inch machine that uses the same 240W charger and is easy to confuse
- M7400, N7400, N7401 — VivoBook Pro 14X, the 14-inch sibling
- X1502, X1505, M1505, S5504 — mainstream VivoBook 15 and VivoBook S15, no dedicated NVIDIA graphics
- H5600, H7600, W5600 — ProArt Studiobook, a separate professional line
Complete model number reference
Base model codes (2022)
- K6501ZM — Intel Core i7 12th Gen + NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB
- K6501ZMB — board/BIOS revision of K6501ZM, identical hardware class
- M6501RM — AMD Ryzen 6000 Series + NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB
- M6501RR — AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX + NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB
US retail SKUs
- K6501ZM-EB74 — i7-12650H, RTX 3060, 16GB, 1TB, 2.8K OLED 120Hz (ASUS part number 90NB0YD1-M001Z0)
- M6501RR-DB96 — Ryzen 9 6900HX, RTX 3070, 32GB, 1TB, FHD 144Hz, 0°Black
Additional regional SKUs you may see on the label
- K6501ZM-OLEDS751 — i7-12650H, RTX 3060, 16GB, 512GB, 2.8K OLED
- K6501ZM-AOQ27069W — i7-12700H, RTX 3060, 16GB, 1TB, 2.8K OLED, Earl Grey
Imported or grey-market SKUs are still quotable. As long as the first six characters read K6501 or M6501, this is the right page.
Core hardware configurations
Processor (CPU)
- Intel — K6501: Core i7-12650H — 10 cores (6P + 4E), 16 threads, 24MB cache, up to 4.7 GHz
- Intel — K6501: Core i7-12700H — 14 cores (6P + 8E), 20 threads, 24MB cache, up to 4.7 GHz
- AMD — M6501: Ryzen 9 6900HX — 8 cores, 16 threads, 16MB cache, up to 4.9 GHz
- AMD — M6501: Ryzen 7 6800H / 6800HS — 8 cores, 16 threads
- The quote tool above lists the two volume options: Intel Core i7 12th Gen and AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX. If your unit carries a Ryzen 7 6800H or 6800HS, use our custom quote form instead.
Graphics (GPU)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU — 6GB GDDR6 (K6501ZM, M6501RM)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU — 8GB GDDR6 (M6501RR)
- Integrated graphics run alongside: Intel UHD or Iris Xe on K6501 depending on the exact i7; AMD Radeon 680M on M6501
- Important asymmetry: ASUS never shipped an RTX 3070 with the Intel platform in this chassis. The RTX 3070 exists only on AMD M6501RR units. If you believe you have an Intel + RTX 3070 combination, please double-check your label before submitting.
Memory (RAM)
- DDR5-4800, maximum 32GB total
- 16GB is soldered directly to the motherboard and cannot be removed or replaced. This is permanent and is a genuine value driver — the base memory can never be stripped out before resale, which keeps the floor price of these units stable.
- One accessible SO-DIMM slot sits alongside the soldered memory, so factory units shipped as 16GB (soldered only) or 32GB (16GB soldered + 16GB module)
- Units at 16GB run in single-channel mode because dual-channel requires a populated SO-DIMM. A 32GB unit is meaningfully faster.
Storage
- M.2 2280 NVMe solid-state drive
- Factory capacities of 512GB and 1TB, expandable to 2TB
- Intel K6501 boards carry two M.2 2280 slots — one PCIe 4.0 ×4 and one PCIe 3.0 ×4 — so a second drive may have been added after purchase
- No 2.5-inch drive bay and no optical drive
Display & audio
Display — two distinct panels
2.8K OLED (sold as "VivoBook Pro 15X OLED"): 15.6-inch, 2880 × 1620, 16:9, 120Hz, 0.2ms response, 400 nits SDR and 600 nits HDR peak, 100% DCI-P3, VESA Certified DisplayHDR True Black 600, PANTONE Validated, glossy finish.
FHD IPS-level (sold as "VivoBook Pro 15X"): 15.6-inch, 1920 × 1080, 16:9, 144Hz, 250 nits, 100% sRGB, PANTONE Validated, anti-glare matte finish.
Not sure which you have? The OLED has a glossy, mirror-like screen with very deep blacks. A matte screen that diffuses reflections is the FHD panel. In the US market, the Ryzen 9 6900HX + RTX 3070 configuration was sold almost exclusively with the matte FHD 144Hz panel — the "OLED" in this page title refers to the product family, not a guarantee about your specific unit. Either panel is quotable here.
Audio
Built-in stereo speaker system with ASUS Smart Amp technology and a built-in array microphone with Cortana far-field voice support. No subwoofer and no dedicated line-in jack — audio input and output share a single 3.5mm combo port.
Ports & connectivity
Port selection is generous for a 15-inch creator notebook, but one omission surprises people (see the note below)*:
-
1× Thunderbolt 4 — display output and Power Delivery, up to 40Gbps (Intel K6501 only; AMD M6501 units carry a standard USB-C port in this position instead)
-
1× USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C — display output and Power Delivery, up to 10Gbps
-
1× USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A — up to 10Gbps
-
1× USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A — up to 5Gbps
-
1× HDMI 2.1 FRL
Network, power & expansion
- 1× RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet (uncommon on 15-inch creator laptops and a genuine identifier for this chassis)
- 1× MicroSD Express 7.1 card reader
- 1× 3.5mm combo audio jack
- 1× DC-in barrel connector, 6.0 × 3.7 mm
*What this laptop does not have: no full-size SD card reader — the slot accepts microSD cards only, which routinely catches out photographers expecting a standard SD slot. AMD M6501 units also lack Thunderbolt, a discrete DisplayPort connector, a Kensington lock slot, and support for charging at full performance over USB-C. The 240W barrel adapter is required for sustained CPU and GPU load, so include the original charger with your shipment — the quote tool asks about it, and it affects your payout.
Battery, build & more
Battery & charging
76 Whr, 4S1P 4-cell lithium-ion pack rated at 15.48V — identical across K6501ZM, M6501RM, and M6501RR. Ships with a 240W AC adapter (ASUS ADP-240EB B, 20V / 12A) using a 6.0 × 3.7 mm barrel tip. A tired battery does not disqualify your laptop; just select the matching condition option above.
Camera, mic & security
FHD 1080p webcam paired with the built-in array microphone. A fingerprint reader is integrated into the chassis for Windows Hello sign-in. This model has no infrared face-recognition camera and no smart card reader.
Keyboard & touchpad
Full-size backlit chiclet keyboard with a dedicated numeric keypad and roughly 1.4 mm of key travel. The signature VivoBook orange Esc key and the accent-colored Enter key edge are the fastest visual confirmation that you are looking at a VivoBook Pro rather than a ZenBook or ROG machine. Precision touchpad below.
Cooling
ASUS IceCool Pro thermal system with dual fans and quad vents, rated for up to 140W of combined CPU and GPU power draw. Fan noise or dust buildup doesn't block a quote—our technicians service intake paths during intake testing.
Weight
≈ 4.63 lb (2.10 kg), consistent across both platforms and both display options.
Dimensions & finishes
355.4 × 239.8 × 20.9 mm (13.99" × 9.44" × 0.82"). Offered in 0 ° Black and Earl Grey, both with diamond-cut edge chamfers along the lid and base.
