The Canon EOS-1D X, announced October 2011 and released in 2012, is Canon's professional flagship full-frame DSLR — an 18.1-megapixel speed-and-durability workhorse built for sports, wildlife, and photojournalism. With Dual DIGIC 5+ processors, a 61-point AF system, up to 14 fps shooting, and a weather-sealed magnesium-alloy body, it defined Canon's pro line for years. Before requesting a quote, confirm you have the original 2012 EOS-1D X and not the later 1D X Mark II (2016) or Mark III (2020) — all three share the "1D X" name and a near-identical body shape but are valued on separate pages. Because cameras are bought as bodies, condition and shutter actuation count are the biggest levers on resale price. If you're trying to sell your camera online, this is also where many owners discover that Gadget Salvation buys pro camera bodies directly for real cash — Zelle, Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or check — with free shipping, no listings, and no haggling. Select your model and condition using our tool above to view an instant cash offer for your exact device.

Confirm you have the original 1D X (not the Mark II or Mark III)

The three generations look almost identical from the outside, so check two internal details. First, the memory card slots: the original 1D X has two CompactFlash (CF) slots; the Mark II uses one CFast + one CF; the Mark III uses dual CFexpress. Second, video: the original tops out at Full HD 1080p, while the Mark II adds 4K and the Mark III adds 5.5K RAW. The model name is printed on the front of the pentaprism and on the bottom-plate label. You can also check the sensor resolution in the menu — the original is 18.1MP (Mark II is 20.2MP, Mark III is 20.1MP). Our guide to finding your gadget's model walks through locating the model and serial.

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I confirm I have the original 1D X and not the Mark II or Mark III?
The three generations share an almost identical body, so check the details. The model name is printed on the front of the pentaprism hump — look for "EOS-1D X" with no "Mark II" or "Mark III." The clearest internal tells are the card slots (the original uses two CompactFlash slots; the Mark II is CFast + CF; the Mark III is dual CFexpress) and video (the original maxes out at 1080p, while the Marks add 4K and beyond). In the menu, the original reads 18.1MP. Getting this right matters because each generation has its own quote page. Our guide to finding your gadget's model has the full steps.
02 Does shutter count affect my offer, and how do I check it?
Yes — for a pro DSLR, the shutter actuation count is one of the most important value factors, much like mileage on a car. The 1D X shutter is rated for roughly 400,000 cycles, so a body with a low count is worth more than a heavily used one. The original 1D X displays its shutter (release) count in the camera menu, though it reports in increments of about 1,000. Select your usage level honestly above. A lower-actuation, clean body in working order will earn the strongest payout.
03 Should I format my memory cards and reset the camera before shipping?
Yes. Copy any photos and footage you want to keep to your computer or a backup drive, then remove your CompactFlash cards (they're usually not included in a body sale) and run Clear all camera settings plus Clear all custom functions in the menu to wipe your personal presets, copyright/owner data, and any registered network settings. The camera itself stores no account login. If you'd like detail on how we handle every incoming device, see our data erasure protocols page.
04 What raises my 1D X trade-in value the most?
Condition and shutter count lead, since the 1D X body ships in a single configuration. A low actuation count, a clean and fully sealed body with no impact damage, and a working sensor and AF system all drive the strongest offers. Including the original accessories — the LP-E4N battery, charger, body cap, strap, and box — also helps. Because the 1D X is a built-to-last professional body, well-maintained units in honest working condition continue to quote favorably on the used market.
05 How does the trade-in work and how fast do I get paid?
Many sellers don't realize Gadget Salvation buys professional cameras directly for cash — no marketplace listings, no lowball offers, and no waiting on a buyer. Pick your model and condition above for an instant quote, accept it, and we email a free, insured prepaid shipping label. Packing tip: a pro body is heavy and precise, so remove the lens, cap the mount, and use plenty of padding — the original box is ideal. Once your 1D X arrives and our team finishes functional testing, payment is approved within two business days via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, or a mailed check. You can see exactly how it works before you commit. Tip: camera values ease when a successor launches, so selling sooner generally means more cash.
