The GIGABYTE AORUS 15 series is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop line that ran from 2019 through 2024 across six distinct hardware generations, plus two parallel sub-lines — the mechanical-keyboard AORUS 15G and the membrane-keyboard AORUS 15P. Over that span the platform moved from 9th Gen Intel and GTX 1660 Ti graphics all the way to Intel Core Ultra and RTX 40-series, and the memory standard, port layout, and keyboard technology all changed along the way. Because AORUS identifies each version with a two- or three-character suffix rather than a year — XA, XB, YD, XE4, BSF, BKG — two laptops that look almost identical can be worth very different amounts. Use the decoder below to pin down exactly which one you own, then select your configuration in the tool above for an instant cash offer.

Model identification

Step 1 — find the suffix

  • Close the lid and turn the laptop over. Read the label on the bottom panel — it will say AORUS 15, AORUS 15G, or AORUS 15P followed by a short code.
  • No sticker? Press the Windows key, type msinfo32, press Enter, and read the System Model row.
  • The code you want looks like XA, XB, YD, XE4, BSF, or BKG. Write down every character — the trailing digit matters.

Step 2 — the last letter is the year

  • A → 2019
  • B → 2020
  • C or D → 2021 (C on the 15G, D on the 15P)
  • E → 2022
  • F → 2023
  • G → 2024
  • So a BSF is a 2023 machine and an XB is a 2020 machine, even though neither says so anywhere on the case.

Step 3 — the earlier letter is the graphics tier

  • Within any single year the letters climb in value roughly M < K < S (2023–2024) and S < K < W < X < Y (2019–2021).
  • Graphics is the largest single factor in what your laptop is worth, so confirm it rather than guessing.
  • To check for certain: press the Windows key, type Device Manager, press Enter, and expand Display adapters. Your NVIDIA card is listed by name.

Step 4 — 15G or 15P? Press a key

  • The AORUS 15G has a full mechanical keyboard using OMRON switches. Keys feel deep and click audibly, like a desktop gaming keyboard.
  • The AORUS 15P and every plain AORUS 15 use a normal flat membrane keyboard.
  • This is the fastest no-software way to separate the two, and the mechanical 15G carries a premium.

AORUS 15 AORUS 15G AORUS 15P 2019–2024 15.6-inch

Core hardware by generation

Each generation is listed separately below because the specifications genuinely do not carry over — memory standard, keyboard type, port set, and graphics ceiling all shifted between years. Find your suffix, then read only that card.

AORUS 15 (2019) — SA / WA / XA

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9750H (6 cores, 12 threads, up to 4.5 GHz)
  • GPU: 15-SA → GTX 1660 Ti 6GB · 15-WA → RTX 2060 · 15-XA → RTX 2070
  • Display: SA and WA → 15.6" FHD 144Hz IPS · XA → 15.6" FHD 240Hz IGZO
  • Memory: DDR4, two SO-DIMM slots
  • Weight: ≈ 2.4 kg
  • Introduced Microsoft Azure AI game-profile optimisation. Oldest and lowest-value generation in the series.

AORUS 15G (2020) — SB / KB / WB / XB / YB

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-10750H (6-core) or i7-10875H (8-core, Comet Lake-H)
  • GPU: KB → RTX 2060 · WB → RTX 2070 Max-Q · XB → RTX 2070 Super Max-Q · YB → RTX 2080 Super Max-Q, all 8GB GDDR6
  • Display: 15.6" FHD in 144Hz, 240Hz, or 300Hz, 100% sRGB, Pantone certified to Delta E<1, 3 mm bezels
  • Memory: DDR4-2666, two SO-DIMM slots
  • Storage: two M.2 PCIe Gen 3×4 slots — a genuine dual-drive machine
  • Keyboard: full OMRON mechanical with numpad, RGB Fusion 2.0. Fingerprint reader included.
  • CNC aluminium chassis, under 1 inch thick, under 5 lb.

AORUS 15P (2020) — KB / WB / XB / YB

  • Same 2020 platform and same RTX 20-series ladder as the 15G above.
  • Key difference: membrane keyboard, not mechanical. This is the cheaper sibling and it prices lower.
  • Adds an SD card slot, which the mainline AORUS 15 later dropped.
  • Because the 15G and 15P share the same letters in 2020, you must record the G or the P — "AORUS 15 XB" alone is ambiguous.

AORUS 15G / 15P (2021) — XC / YC and KD / XD / YD

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-10870H (8-core)
  • GPU: moved to NVIDIA RTX 30-series. The 15P YD tops the range with an RTX 3080; XD and KD step down from there.
  • 15G (C suffix) keeps the OMRON mechanical keyboard; 15P (D suffix) stays membrane.
  • Typical configurations reached 32GB memory and a 1TB SSD with a 240Hz panel.
  • Gigabit Ethernet and an SD card slot both present.

AORUS 15 (2022) — XE4 / XE5 / YE4 / YE5

  • CPU: 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H (2.3–4.7 GHz) or Core i5-12500H (2.5–4.5 GHz)
  • GPU: XE → RTX 3070 Ti 8GB · YE → RTX 3080 Ti
  • Display: 15.6" QHD 2560×1440 165Hz, or FHD 1920×1080 360Hz, both 72% NTSC IPS-level
  • Memory — check this carefully. The trailing digit tracks the memory generation: retail XE4 units shipped DDR4-3200 across two slots, up to 64GB, while GIGABYTE marketed the 12th-Gen family as DDR5-capable on the …5 variants. Confirm yours in Task Manager → Performance → Memory before quoting.
  • Ports: Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, USB-C with DisplayPort, USB-A, RJ-45 Ethernet, audio combo, DC-in. Wi-Fi 6E AX210, Bluetooth 5.2, DTS:X Ultra.

AORUS 15 (2023) — 9MF / 9KF / 9SF / BMF / BKF / BSF

  • The leading character is the CPU generation: B → 13th Gen Intel · 9 → 12th Gen Intel. Two CPU generations sold side by side under one product name.
  • CPU: i7-13700H (14 cores, 20 threads, 24MB, up to 5.0 GHz) or i5-13500H (18MB, up to 4.7 GHz) on B models; i5-12500H on 9 models.
  • GPU: BSF / 9SF → RTX 4070 8GB · BKF / 9KF → RTX 4060 8GB · BMF / 9MF → RTX 4050 6GB, all at up to 140W graphics power.
  • Display: QHD 2560×1440 165Hz (up to 100% DCI-P3) · FHD 360Hz (100% sRGB) · FHD 144Hz (45% NTSC). All TÜV Rheinland certified.
  • Memory: DDR5-4800 / 5200, dual channel. Storage: M.2 PCIe 4.0.
  • MUX switch, 99Wh battery, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E, 1080p webcam with IR for Windows Hello, three-zone RGB keyboard with 1.7 mm travel, RGB light bar, 20.8 mm metal chassis.

AORUS 15 (2024) — BKG

  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 155H (Meteor Lake-H) with an on-chip NPU
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060 8GB at 140W
  • Display: 15.6" QHD 2560×1440 165Hz IPS, matte
  • Memory: DDR5 · Storage: M.2 NVMe, commonly 1TB
  • USB4 / Thunderbolt 40Gbps, Wi-Fi 6E, IR face-recognition camera, fast charging, ≈ 2.39 kg
  • Marketed on GIGABYTE's AI Nexus feature set. Newest generation and the strongest payout in the series.

Display & audio

Panels across the series

Every AORUS 15 uses a 15.6-inch 16:9 matte anti-glare panel — no touchscreen was ever offered. Resolution and refresh rate are the two variables that move price:

  • FHD 1920×1080 at 144Hz, 240Hz, 300Hz, or 360Hz depending on generation
  • QHD 2560×1440 at 165Hz, introduced with the 2022 generation and standard from 2023 onward
  • 2020 panels carry Pantone certification within Delta E<1; 2022–2024 panels carry TÜV Rheinland low-blue-light and flicker-free certification

To check yours: right-click the desktop → Display settings for resolution, then Advanced display for refresh rate. A QHD 165Hz or FHD 360Hz panel is worth more than a base 144Hz panel.

Audio & webcam

  • 2019–2021: Nahimic 3 with 7.1-channel virtual surround
  • 2022 onward: DTS:X Ultra / DTS Sound Unbound, twin 2W speakers
  • Webcam: early generations use a basic 720p-class camera. The 2023 and 2024 models upgrade to a 1080p webcam with an infrared sensor for Windows Hello face login — if your laptop logs you in by looking at you, you are on a 2023 or newer unit.

Ports & connectivity

Port layout changed meaningfully between eras, so check against your own generation rather than assuming.

2019–2021 (15G / 15P era)
  • 1× Thunderbolt 3 USB-C (not Thunderbolt 4)
  • 1× HDMI  ·  1× Mini DisplayPort
  • Multiple USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports
  • 1× RJ-45 (Killer E2600 Gigabit Ethernet on the 15G)
  • 1× SD card slot  ·  1× 3.5mm audio
  • Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650  ·  DC-in
2022–2024 (mainline AORUS 15)
  • 1× Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 40Gbps (2024 BKG)
  • 1× HDMI 2.1  ·  1× USB-C with DisplayPort
  • USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 and Gen 2 ports
  • 1× RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet
  • 1× 3.5mm audio combo  ·  DC-in
  • Wi-Fi 6E  ·  Bluetooth 5.2

What the AORUS 15 does not have

  • No touchscreen on any model in the series
  • No SD card reader on the 2022 and 2023 mainline AORUS 15 — the slot existed on the 15G/15P era and was dropped. Reviewers flagged its absence.
  • No Thunderbolt 4 before 2022 — earlier units are Thunderbolt 3 only
  • No Mini DisplayPort after the 15G/15P era
  • No optical drive on any generation
  • No mechanical keyboard except on the 15G — the 15P and every plain AORUS 15 are membrane
  • No numeric keypad on the 2023–2024 models, unlike the full-size 15G layout

Battery, build & more

Battery & charging

The 2023–2024 generations carry a large 99Wh battery — unusually big for a gaming laptop and a genuine selling point, with reviewers recording around ten hours of light use. They also accept USB-C Power Delivery charging at 86W or higher, and fast-charge to roughly 50% in 30 minutes. Earlier generations are smaller and rely on the barrel adapter. Always include the original GIGABYTE power brick — these are high-wattage adapters and a missing one reduces your offer noticeably.

Cooling

From 2022 onward these use WINDFORCE Infinity cooling: five heat pipes, twin 72-blade fans with 0.2 mm blades, and 205 fins across four exhaust vents. Fan noise and dust build-up are the most common wear issues on this series — a laptop that runs loud or throttles still sells, just grade it honestly.

Keyboard & lighting

15G: OMRON mechanical switches, full numpad, per-key RGB Fusion 2.0, fingerprint reader.
15P and AORUS 15: membrane. The 2023 generation uses a three-zone RGB board with 1.7 mm travel, full anti-ghosting, N-key rollover, and adds an RGB light bar on the chassis.

Chassis & weight

2019: ≈ 2.4 kg. 2020 15G: CNC aluminium, under 1 inch thick, under 5 lb. 2023: 20.8 mm metal chassis, ≈ 2.25 kg, roughly 360 × 272 mm. 2024 BKG: ≈ 2.39 kg. Aluminium lids scuff and dent rather than crack — note any damage when grading.

Upgrades & expansion

The 15G and 15P generations are unusually upgrade-friendly: two SO-DIMM memory slots and two M.2 PCIe slots, frequently shipped with one of each left free. If you added memory or a second drive, that counts toward your quote — describe what is installed today, not the original spec.

Software & features

GIGABYTE Control Center (earlier: AORUS Control Center) handles fan curves, RGB, and the MUX switch on 2022+ models. Microsoft Azure AI game detection has been a series feature since 2019. The 2024 BKG adds AI Nexus built on the Core Ultra NPU.

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I work out exactly which AORUS 15 I have?

You need two pieces of information, and neither requires any technical knowledge.

First, the model suffix. Close the lid, flip the laptop over, and read the printed label on the bottom panel. You are looking for AORUS 15, AORUS 15G, or AORUS 15P followed by a short code such as XA, XB, YD, XE4, BSF, or BKG. Copy down every character including any number at the end — XE4 and XE5 are not the same laptop. If the sticker has worn away, press the Windows key, type msinfo32, press Enter, and read the System Model line.

Second, the graphics card. Press the Windows key, type Device Manager, press Enter, then click the arrow next to Display adapters. Your NVIDIA card is named there in plain English, such as "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU." This single detail moves the price more than anything else.

Decoding what you found: the final letter tells you the year — A is 2019, B is 2020, C and D are 2021, E is 2022, F is 2023, G is 2024. On 2023 models the leading character tells you the processor generation: B means 13th Gen Intel and 9 means 12th Gen Intel.

Our Aorus model number guide and processor type guide walk through this with screenshots, and the Find Your Gadget's Model hub covers every brand. If you would rather we just identify it for you, send the details through Custom Quote.

02 My GIGABYTE looks like this but the name is slightly different — am I in the right place?

GIGABYTE reuses very similar names and suffixes across several product lines, and the chassis often look near-identical. Check each of these before you quote:

AORUS 15X (AKF / ASF). Sold alongside the 2023 AORUS 15 and easy to confuse, but it is a different, more powerful machine built on HX-series processors — Core i7-13700HX or i9-13900HX. If your processor name ends in HX rather than plain H, you have a 15X, not a 15.

AORUS 15G vs AORUS 15P. Same years, same letters, different keyboards. Press a key: deep, clicky and mechanical means 15G; flat and quiet means 15P. The G is worth more, so getting this right is worth your time.

AORUS 5. GIGABYTE's budget 15.6-inch gaming line, which used overlapping suffixes such as SB and KB in the same years. The label reads AORUS 5, not AORUS 15.

AORUS 17, 17G and 17X. The 17.3-inch versions use the exact same suffix scheme — there is a 17 BSF and a 17 BKF just as there is a 15 BSF and a 15 BKF. Measure your screen diagonally corner to corner; this page is for 15.6-inch machines only.

GIGABYTE AERO 15. The creator-focused sibling built on related chassis but branded AERO rather than AORUS, and aimed at colour-accurate content work rather than gaming.

AORUS 16 and 16X. The later 16-inch replacements for this line.

You can see everything we buy from this brand on our Aorus trade-in page, or browse all gaming laptops we purchase.

03 Will you buy one with a cracked screen, loud fans, a dead battery, or upgraded parts?

Yes. We buy AORUS 15 laptops in every state, and gaming machines in particular tend to arrive with honest wear. Cracked or flickering panels, worn or missing keycaps, grinding or rattling fans, thermal throttling, a battery that no longer holds charge, dents in the aluminium lid, broken hinges, or a laptop that will not power on at all — every one of those still has value. Grade it accurately in the selector above and the price you see is the price we honour.

Upgrades increase your offer on this series. The 15G and 15P generations shipped with two memory slots and two M.2 drive slots, often with one of each empty, so owner-added RAM and second drives are common. Quote what is physically installed today rather than the original factory specification. A 15G XB upgraded from 16GB to 32GB with a second SSD fitted is worth meaningfully more than a stock one.

Two things worth checking before you ship: if the bottom panel is bulging or the trackpad has lifted, that is a swollen battery — stop charging the laptop and mention it when you quote so we can arrange safe transit. And if the fans scream under load, a simple dust clean sometimes helps, though it is never required for a sale. Our shipping instructions cover safe packing for heavy gaming laptops, and How It Works explains the full process.

04 What raises the trade-in value of an AORUS 15 the most?

Across this series, five things move the number more than anything else:

  • The graphics card, by a wide margin. An RTX 4070 (BSF / 9SF) pays substantially more than an RTX 4050 (BMF / 9MF), and the RTX 30 and 40-series generations sit far above the older RTX 20-series and GTX 1660 Ti machines.
  • Generation. The 2024 BKG and 2023 B-series lead the range; the 2019 A-series sits at the bottom. Gaming hardware depreciates quickly, so a newer suffix matters.
  • The QHD 165Hz or FHD 360Hz panel rather than a base 144Hz screen.
  • The OMRON mechanical keyboard on 15G models. It is a genuinely rare feature in laptops and buyers seek it out specifically.
  • Memory and storage as installed — 32GB beats 16GB, 1TB beats 512GB, and a second drive fitted in the spare M.2 slot counts.

Including the original high-wattage GIGABYTE charger also protects the offer, since replacements for these are expensive.

Many people don't realize a gaming laptop this specialised is worth real cash rather than sitting in a closet losing value every month. Gadget Salvation has been a dedicated consumer-electronics trade-in service since 2008. You answer a few questions and get an instant quote — no listing to write, no photographs, no lowball messages, no meeting strangers in car parks. We send a free prepaid, fully insured UPS label, and you get paid in actual cash rather than the store credit or gift card most manufacturer trade-in programmes hand back. That distinction matters most on gaming hardware, where the resale figures are large enough to be worth real money to you. For more, read How to Sell Your Gaming Laptop: A Step-by-Step Guide, Where and How to Sell a Gaming Laptop, and What Is My Laptop Worth? for realistic expectations before you quote.

05 How do I wipe my data, and how do I get paid?

Before you box it up: back up anything you want to keep — game saves, screenshots, recordings, and configuration files, which on a gaming machine are easy to overlook. Copy them to an external drive or cloud storage, then sign out of Steam, Epic, Battle.net, Xbox, and your Microsoft account, and deauthorise the machine in any launcher that limits active devices. If you would like to reset it yourself, open Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC and choose Remove everything.

Do not remove the SSDs yourself. On dual-slot 15G and 15P models it is tempting, but pulling drives risks damaging the board and lowers what we can offer. Leave everything installed — every machine we receive goes through our certified data-sanitisation process whether or not you reset it first. Details are on our data erasure protocols page.

Payment: once your laptop arrives and clears functional testing, payment is approved within about two business days. Take it by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or CashApp, or ask for a physical check mailed to your address. Your shipping label is free and fully insured from the moment you hand the box over.
