The GIGABYTE AORUS 17 series is a 17.3-inch desktop-replacement gaming line that ran from 2019 through 2024 across three parallel sub-lines: the mainline AORUS 17, the mechanical-keyboard AORUS 17G, and the flagship AORUS 17X built on Intel's HX-series processors. Over that run the platform climbed from 9th Gen Intel with GTX 1660 Ti graphics all the way to a Core i9-14900HX paired with an RTX 4090 — a spread of resale value wider than almost any other laptop family we buy. Because AORUS labels each version with a short suffix rather than a year — YA, XB, YD, XE4, BSF, AZF, AZG — two 17-inch machines that look nearly identical can be worth many hundreds of dollars apart. Work through the decoder below to identify yours, then select your configuration in the tool above for an instant cash offer.

Model identification

Step 1 — find the suffix

  • Close the lid and turn the laptop over. The bottom label reads AORUS 17, AORUS 17G, or AORUS 17X followed by a short code.
  • No sticker left? Press the Windows key, type msinfo32, press Enter, and read the System Model row.
  • You may also see a longer sales code such as YA-7US2150SH or AZF-B5US665SP. The first two or three characters are the part that matters.
  • Record whether there is a G or an X after the 17. "AORUS 17 XB" and "AORUS 17X XB" are different laptops.

Step 2 — the last letter is the year

  • A → 2019
  • B → 2020
  • C or D → 2021
  • E → 2022
  • F → 2023
  • G → 2024
  • So a YA is a 2019 machine and an AZG is a 2024 machine, even though neither states a year anywhere on the case.

Step 3 — the earlier letters are the graphics tier

  • 2019–2022: the ladder climbs S < W < X < Y, so a YA outranks an XA, and a YE outranks an XE.
  • 2023 mainline 17: M < K < S — BMF/9MF at the bottom, BSF/9SF at the top.
  • 2023–2024 17X: AXF is an RTX 4080 and AZF / AZG are RTX 4090 machines.
  • To confirm for certain: press the Windows key, type Device Manager, press Enter, and expand Display adapters. Your NVIDIA card is named in plain English there.

Step 4 — is the keyboard mechanical?

  • Press a key. If it travels deep and clicks like a desktop gaming keyboard, you have OMRON mechanical switches.
  • Mechanical: the 2019 AORUS 17 (SA/WA/XA/YA), every AORUS 17G, and the 2021 AORUS 17X YD.
  • Membrane: the 2022–2023 mainline AORUS 17, and the 2023–2024 AORUS 17X.
  • Mechanical units carry a real premium — this is a rare laptop feature and buyers hunt for it specifically.

AORUS 17 AORUS 17G AORUS 17X 2019–2024 17.3-inch

Core hardware by generation

These generations do not share specifications — keyboard technology, storage layout, memory standard, and processor class all changed across the run. Find your suffix, then read only that card.

AORUS 17 (2019) — SA / WA / XA / YA

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-9980HK (unlocked, 8 cores, 16 threads, 2.4–5.0 GHz) or Core i7-9750H (6 cores, 12 threads, 2.6–4.5 GHz)
  • GPU: SA → GTX 1660 Ti 6GB · WA → RTX 2060 6GB · XA → RTX 2070 8GB · YA → RTX 2080 8GB
  • Display: AUO 17.3" FHD 240Hz, 3ms, X-Rite Pantone factory-calibrated to Delta E<2, 3 mm bezels — or an LG 17.3" FHD 144Hz IPS on lower tiers
  • Memory: DDR4, two SO-DIMM slots, up to 64GB
  • Storage — three bays. One 2.5-inch HDD/SSD bay plus two M.2 2280 slots, for up to roughly 6TB. The only generation in the series with a 2.5-inch bay.
  • Keyboard: AORUS Fusion RGB per-key OMRON mechanical, N-key rollover, 2.5 mm travel — billed as the world's first laptop with OMRON switches
  • ESS Sabre Hi-Fi DAC, Nahimic 3 audio, Killer E2600 Ethernet + Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650, Intel HM370 chipset. WA ships a 230W adapter.

AORUS 17G (2020) — SB / KB / WB / XB / YB

  • CPU: 10th Gen Intel Core i7 H-series (Comet Lake-H), 6- and 8-core options
  • GPU: climbs from RTX 2060 on KB through RTX 2070 and RTX 2070 Super to RTX 2080 Super Max-Q on YB
  • Display: 17.3" FHD at up to 300Hz, thin-bezel
  • Keyboard: full OMRON mechanical with numpad, RGB Fusion per-key lighting
  • CNC anodised aluminium chassis. Killer Ethernet and Killer Wi-Fi 6.
  • The G suffix denotes the mechanical-keyboard chassis, which is the whole point of this sub-line.

AORUS 17X (2020–2021) — WB / XB / YB, then 11th Gen

  • 2020 (10th Gen): WB / XB / YB — the flagship tier above the 17G
  • 2021 (11th Gen): adds PCIe Gen 4 SSD support and Thunderbolt 4, a genuine platform step up from the 2020 units
  • The 2021 AORUS 17X YD still carried the OMRON mechanical keyboard — the last 17X generation to do so
  • GPU: RTX 20-series Super on 2020 models, moving to RTX 30-series for 2021

AORUS 17G (2021) — XC / KD / XD / YD

  • GPU: moved to NVIDIA RTX 30-series, with YD at the top of the ladder
  • Display: up to 300Hz — officially certified by the esports organisation G2 Esports
  • Keyboard: OMRON mechanical, retained throughout the 17G line
  • CNC anodised aluminium body, per-unit factory panel calibration
  • Note the split: C and D suffixes are both 2021 within this sub-line.

AORUS 17 (2022) — XE4 / XE5 / YE4 / YE5

  • CPU: 12th Gen Intel Core i7 H-series
  • GPU: RTX 30-series, topping out at the RTX 3080 Ti on YE models
  • Display: billed by GIGABYTE as the world's first 17" 360Hz four-sided thin-bezel screen, 72% NTSC IPS-level
  • Memory: DDR5 on this generation. As on the 15 series, the trailing digit tracks the memory generation — verify yours in Task Manager → Performance → Memory before quoting.
  • Thunderbolt 4, WINDFORCE Infinity cooling, RGB Fusion membrane keyboard
  • Keyboard is membrane, not mechanical — the mainline 17 dropped OMRON after 2019.

AORUS 17 (2023) — 9MF / 9KF / 9SF / BKF / BSF

  • The leading character is the CPU generation: B → 13th Gen Intel · 9 → 12th Gen Intel. Two processor generations sold side by side under one name.
  • CPU: up to Core i7-13700H (14 cores, 20 threads, 24MB, up to 5.0 GHz) on B models; 12th Gen H-series on 9 models
  • GPU: BSF / 9SF → RTX 4070 · BKF / 9KF → RTX 4060 · 9MF → RTX 4050
  • MUX switch, DDR5, PCIe 4.0 storage, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E
  • Note the 17 line has no BMF — the RTX 4050 tier exists only as the 12th Gen 9MF here, unlike the 15 series which offered both.

AORUS 17X (2023) — AXF / AZF

  • CPU: 13th Gen Intel HX-series, 24 cores — i9-13980HX (36MB, up to 5.6 GHz), i9-13950HX (5.5 GHz), i9-13900HX (5.4 GHz), or i7-13700HX (30MB, 5.0 GHz)
  • GPU: AZF → RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 · AXF → RTX 4080 12GB GDDR6, both at 175W maximum graphics power
  • Display: 17.3" 16:9 thin-bezel QHD 2560×1440 at 240Hz, 100% DCI-P3, TÜV Rheinland certified
  • Memory: DDR5-5600 across two slots, commonly 32GB (16GB×2) · Storage: Gen 4 M.2, up to 2TB
  • Dynamic Display Switch (DDS) with NVIDIA Advanced Optimus and G-SYNC
  • Island-style RGB Fusion keyboard with per-key backlighting and per-key macros — membrane, not mechanical
  • This is the highest-value generation in the entire series.

AORUS 17X (2024) — AZG

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-14900HX (8 performance cores + 16 efficient cores, 24 total)
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090 at 175W maximum graphics power
  • Display: 17.3" QHD 2560×1440 240Hz with Dolby Vision
  • Memory: 32GB DDR5-5600 · Storage: commonly two 1TB NVMe drives
  • Weight: ≈ 2.9 kg (6.39 lb) · Dimensions: 39.6 × 29.3 × 2.18 cm
  • GIGABYTE AI Nexus feature set, Dynamic Display Switch, WINDFORCE Infinity cooling
  • Newest and most valuable machine in the series.

Display & audio

Panels across the series

Every AORUS 17 uses a 17.3-inch 16:9 matte anti-glare panel — no touchscreen was ever offered on any model. Resolution and refresh rate are what move the price:

  • FHD 1920×1080 at 144Hz, 240Hz, 300Hz, or 360Hz depending on generation and tier
  • QHD 2560×1440 at 240Hz on the 2023 and 2024 AORUS 17X — the highest-value panel in the family
  • 2019 panels are X-Rite Pantone factory-calibrated to Delta E<2; 2023–2024 panels carry TÜV Rheinland certification and 100% DCI-P3 coverage

To check yours: right-click the desktop → Display settings for resolution, then Advanced display for refresh rate. A QHD 240Hz or FHD 360Hz panel is worth notably more than a base 144Hz screen.

Audio

  • 2019: ESS Sabre Hi-Fi audio DAC with Nahimic 3 3D surround, plus a HiFi/SPDIF-capable headphone output — a genuinely unusual feature that audio-minded buyers still seek out
  • 2020–2021: Nahimic 3 3D audio
  • 2022–2024: DTS:X Ultra with twin 2.5W speakers

Ports & connectivity

The port set shrank considerably over the run. The 2019 machine is by far the most generous; check against your own generation rather than assuming.

2019 AORUS 17 (SA / WA / XA / YA)
  • 1× Thunderbolt 3 (Type-C)
  • 1× USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C  ·  1× DisplayPort 1.4 + USB 3.1 Type-C
  • 3× USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A
  • 1× HDMI 2.0
  • 1× UHS-II SD card reader
  • 1× RJ-45 (Killer E2600 Ethernet)
  • Separate microphone and headphone jacks (headphone output supports HiFi/SPDIF)
  • DC-in  ·  Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650
2023–2024 AORUS 17X (AXF / AZF / AZG)
  • 1× Thunderbolt 4 (Type-C, supports Power Delivery)
  • 3× USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 1× HDMI 2.1
  • 1× Mini DisplayPort 1.4 (120Hz)
  • 1× RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet
  • 1× 3.5mm audio combo jack
  • DC-in  ·  Wi-Fi 6E  ·  Bluetooth 5.2

What the AORUS 17 does not have

  • No touchscreen on any model in the series
  • No SD card reader on the 2023–2024 AORUS 17X — the 2019 model had a full UHS-II reader and it was dropped
  • No separate microphone jack after 2019 — later models use a single combo jack
  • No 2.5-inch drive bay after 2019 — only the first generation takes a SATA HDD or SSD
  • No Thunderbolt 4 before 2021 — earlier units are Thunderbolt 3 only
  • No mechanical keyboard on the 2022–2024 mainline 17 or the 2023–2024 17X
  • No optical drive on any generation

Battery, build & more

Power adapters — read this before shipping

These are high-wattage machines: the 2019 WA alone ships a 230W adapter, and the RTX 4090 models draw considerably more. Always include the original GIGABYTE power brick. Replacements for the top-tier 17X adapters are expensive and hard to source, and a missing one reduces your offer more on this series than on almost anything else we buy.

Cooling

WINDFORCE Infinity cooling runs throughout the series, using multiple heat pipes and twin thin-blade fans. On a 17-inch chassis pushing a 175W GPU, fan noise and dust build-up are the most common wear complaints. A machine that runs loud or throttles under load still sells perfectly well — just grade it honestly.

Keyboard & lighting

Mechanical (OMRON): 2019 AORUS 17, all AORUS 17G, and the 2021 17X YD — per-key RGB Fusion, N-key rollover, 2.5 mm travel.
Membrane: 2022–2023 mainline 17 and 2023–2024 17X — island-style RGB Fusion with per-key backlighting and per-key macros.

Chassis & weight

CNC-machined anodised aluminium throughout. The 2024 17X AZG weighs ≈ 2.9 kg (6.39 lb) at 39.6 × 29.3 × 2.18 cm. These are large, heavy laptops — pack accordingly and check the lid and hinges carefully when grading, since aluminium dents and scuffs rather than cracking.

Upgrades & expansion

This series is unusually upgrade-friendly. The 2019 model takes two SO-DIMMs up to 64GB plus three drives (one 2.5-inch and two M.2 2280). Later generations keep two memory slots and two M.2 slots — the 2024 AZG commonly ships with two 1TB drives fitted. If you added memory or storage, that counts toward your quote: describe what is installed today, not the original spec.

Software & features

GIGABYTE Control Center (earlier: AORUS Control Center) manages fan curves, RGB, and graphics switching. Microsoft Azure AI game detection has been a series feature since 2019. The 2022–2023 models add a MUX switch; the 2023–2024 17X uses Dynamic Display Switch with Advanced Optimus and G-SYNC; the 2024 AZG adds AI Nexus.

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I work out exactly which AORUS 17 I have?

You need three pieces of information, and none of them requires technical knowledge.

First, the sub-line. Look at the bottom label or the lid and note whether it says AORUS 17, AORUS 17G, or AORUS 17X. That single letter separates three quite different machines, so do not skip it.

Second, the suffix. Close the lid, flip the laptop over, and read the printed label. You want a short code such as YA, XB, YD, XE4, BSF, AZF, or AZG. You may also see a longer sales code like AZF-B5US665SP — the first two or three characters are the part we need. If the sticker has worn away, press the Windows key, type msinfo32, press Enter, and read the System Model line.

Third, the graphics card. Press the Windows key, type Device Manager, press Enter, then click the arrow beside Display adapters. Your NVIDIA card is listed there by name, for example "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU." On this series that one detail moves the price more than anything else.

Decoding what you found: the final letter is the year — A is 2019, B is 2020, C and D are 2021, E is 2022, F is 2023, G is 2024. On the 2023 mainline 17, a leading B means 13th Gen Intel and a leading 9 means 12th Gen Intel.

Our Aorus model number guide and processor type guide show each step with screenshots, and the Find Your Gadget's Model hub covers every brand we buy. If you would rather we identify it for you, send the details through Custom Quote.

02 My GIGABYTE looks like this but the name is slightly different — am I in the right place?

GIGABYTE reuses the same suffixes across several lines and screen sizes, and the chassis are deliberately similar. Check every one of these before quoting:

AORUS 15 series — the biggest trap. The 15.6-inch line uses the identical suffix scheme. There is an AORUS 15 BSF and an AORUS 17 BSF, an AORUS 15 XE4 and an AORUS 17 XE4. Measure your screen diagonally, corner to corner — this page is for 17.3-inch machines only. A 15.6-inch unit belongs on the AORUS 15 listing.

AORUS 17 vs 17G vs 17X. Three different machines sold in the same years. The 17G is the mechanical-keyboard version. The 17X is the flagship and runs HX-series processors — if your processor name ends in HX rather than plain H, you have a 17X.

AORUS 7. GIGABYTE's budget 17.3-inch gaming line, sold alongside the AORUS 17 with overlapping suffixes. The label reads AORUS 7, not AORUS 17 — easy to misread at a glance.

GIGABYTE AERO 17. The creator-focused sibling on related chassis, branded AERO rather than AORUS and aimed at colour-accurate content work.

AORUS 16 and 16X. The later 16-inch models that replaced this line.

You can see everything we buy from this brand on our Aorus trade-in page, or browse all the gaming laptops we purchase.

03 Will you buy one with a cracked screen, loud fans, a dead battery, or upgraded parts?

Yes. We buy AORUS 17 laptops in every condition, and big gaming machines usually arrive with honest wear. Cracked or flickering panels, worn or missing keycaps, grinding fans, heavy thermal throttling, a battery that no longer holds charge, dented aluminium, failed hinges, or a laptop that will not power on at all — all of it still has value. Grade it accurately in the selector above and the price you see is the price we honour.

Upgrades genuinely increase your offer on this series. These are among the most expandable gaming laptops ever sold: the 2019 model takes two memory sticks up to 64GB plus three separate drives, and later generations keep dual memory and dual M.2 slots. Quote what is physically installed today rather than the factory specification. A 2019 YA upgraded to 32GB with all three drive bays filled is worth meaningfully more than a stock one.

Two things to check before shipping. If the bottom panel is bulging or the trackpad has lifted, that is a swollen battery — stop charging it and tell us when you quote so we can arrange safe transit. And because these are heavy 17-inch machines, packing matters: our shipping instructions cover it, and How It Works walks through the whole process.

04 What raises the trade-in value of an AORUS 17 the most?

Across this series, six things move the number more than anything else:

  • The graphics card, by a very wide margin. An RTX 4090 on a 17X AZF or AZG sits in a completely different price bracket from an RTX 4050 or the older GTX 1660 Ti machines. This is the single biggest lever.
  • Which sub-line you own. The 17X flagship outranks the mainline 17 substantially, because it carries HX-series processors and top-tier graphics.
  • Generation. The 2024 AZG and 2023 AZF lead the range; the 2019 A-series sits at the bottom. Gaming hardware depreciates fast, so a later suffix matters a great deal.
  • The QHD 240Hz panel on 2023–2024 17X models, or a 360Hz screen, rather than a base 144Hz display.
  • The OMRON mechanical keyboard. Found on the 2019 AORUS 17, every 17G, and the 2021 17X YD. It is a rare feature in any laptop and buyers seek it out by name.
  • Memory and storage as installed — 32GB beats 16GB, 2TB beats 512GB, and drives added to the spare bays all count.

Including the original high-wattage GIGABYTE adapter also protects the offer, since these bricks are costly to replace.

Many people don't realize a 17-inch gaming laptop this specialised is worth serious cash rather than sitting in a cupboard losing value every month. Gadget Salvation has been a dedicated consumer-electronics trade-in service since 2008. You answer a few questions and get an instant quote — no listing to write, no photographs to stage, no lowball messages, no meeting strangers to hand over an expensive machine. We send a free prepaid, fully insured UPS label, and you are paid in actual cash rather than the store credit or gift card most manufacturer trade-in programmes hand back. On hardware at this price point that difference is worth real money to you. For more, read How to Sell Your Gaming Laptop: A Step-by-Step Guide, Where and How to Sell a Gaming Laptop, and What Is My Laptop Worth? before you quote.

05 How do I wipe my data, and how do I get paid?

Before you box it up: back up anything you want to keep — game saves, recordings, screenshots, and configuration files, which are easy to overlook on a gaming machine. Copy them to an external drive or cloud storage, then sign out of Steam, Epic, Battle.net, Xbox, and your Microsoft account, and deauthorise the laptop in any launcher that limits active devices. If you want to reset it yourself, open Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC and choose Remove everything. Check every drive — this series often has two or three fitted, and it is easy to wipe one and forget the others.

Do not remove the drives yourself. On multi-bay models it is tempting, but pulling them risks damaging the board and lowers what we can offer. Leave everything installed — every machine we receive goes through our certified data-sanitisation process whether or not you reset it first. Details are on our data erasure protocols page.

Payment: once your laptop arrives and clears functional testing, payment is approved within about two business days. Take it by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or CashApp, or ask for a physical check mailed to your address. Your shipping label is free and fully insured from the moment you hand the box over.
