The HP Omen 15 (2021) is the refreshed second-year version of HP's mainstream 15.6-inch gaming laptop, sold in two parallel platforms that share one chassis: the Intel-based 15-ek1xxx and the AMD-based 15-en1xxx. Both wear the same understated metal-grey design HP introduced in 2020 — flatter and far less aggressive than the older red-and-black Omen styling. The headline change for 2021 is the move to NVIDIA RTX 30-series graphics. One important catch worth knowing before you sell: despite the "2021" badge and the ek1 suffix, the Intel models still ship 10th-generation Comet Lake processors — only the AMD side moved to a new CPU generation (Ryzen 5000). Because configurations vary widely, your exact CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and panel decide the resale value. Select your components using the tool above for an instant cash offer.

Which Omen 15 do I have?

Two things matter for an accurate quote: the platform (Intel vs AMD) and the year (2020 vs 2021). Check the regulatory/model string on the bottom panel:

15-ek1xxx → Intel, 2021 15-en1xxx → AMD, 2021 15-ek0xxx / 15-en0xxx → 2020

If your string ends in 0xxx (e.g. 15-ek0013dx), you have the 2020 model, which used different graphics options and is priced separately — pick that page instead. This page covers the 1xxx (2021) refresh only.

Core hardware configurations

Processor (CPU)

  • Intel (15-ek1xxx): 10th-gen Comet Lake — Core i5-10300H, i7-10750H, or i7-10870H
  • AMD (15-en1xxx): Ryzen 5000 series — Ryzen 5 5600H, Ryzen 7 5800H, or Ryzen 9 5900H / 5900HX
  • Both platforms are 45W H-class mobile chips with 6 to 8 cores

Graphics (GPU)

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 — 6GB GDDR6
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (Max-Q) — 8GB GDDR6
  • RTX 3070 is configured at a 100W TGP ceiling in this chassis
  • RTX models add hardware ray tracing and DLSS; select panels include NVIDIA G-SYNC

Memory (RAM)

  • DDR4 dual-channel across two SO-DIMM slots
  • Factory configurations commonly 8GB or 16GB; both slots user-accessible
  • Supports up to 64GB total when both slots are populated

Storage

  • M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD (256GB / 512GB / 1TB common factory capacities)
  • Two M.2 slots for multi-drive or RAID setups
  • No 2.5" drive bay on the 2021 chassis — storage is M.2 only

Display & audio

Display

15.6-inch anti-glare IPS micro-edge panels in several refresh-rate options: FHD (1920 × 1080) at 60Hz or 144Hz, FHD at 300Hz (300 nits, 100% sRGB, 3ms, with G-SYNC), or QHD (2560 × 1440) at 165Hz. Panel options vary by region and configuration.

Audio

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I tell my 2021 Omen 15 apart from the 2020 model?
The model string on the bottom panel is the surest way. A 1 after the letters means 2021 (15-ek1xxx for Intel, 15-en1xxx for AMD); a 0 means the 2020 version. The two years share a chassis but had different graphics options, so they're quoted separately. Our guide to finding your laptop's model number walks through locating the full string and Serial Number.
02 Is the 15-ek1 really a 10th-gen Intel chip and not 11th-gen?
Correct — this trips a lot of sellers up. The 2021 Intel Omen 15 (15-ek1xxx) carries over 10th-generation Comet Lake processors (i5-10300H, i7-10750H, i7-10870H). The "1" in the model number marks the 2021 refresh and the new RTX 30-series graphics, not a new CPU generation. Only the AMD models (15-en1xxx) moved to a newer CPU family, the Ryzen 5000 series. Selecting the correct CPU above keeps your quote accurate.
03 Does my Omen 15 have a Thunderbolt port?
Only the Intel models do. The 15-ek1xxx (Intel) includes a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port, while the 15-en1xxx (AMD) has a standard USB-C port with DisplayPort but no Thunderbolt. This is a normal difference between the Intel and AMD platforms and does not indicate anything wrong with your laptop.
04 Should I wipe or remove my SSD before shipping?
Back up your personal files and game saves to an external drive or the cloud, and sign out of your accounts before packing. You do not need to remove the M.2 SSD — our team runs certified, multi-pass data sanitization on every incoming drive. See our data erasure protocols page for the full process.
05 Which configurations raise my Omen 15 trade-in value the most?
Graphics drive value most: an RTX 3070 build pays more than an RTX 3060 one. From there, a higher-tier CPU (Core i7/i9 or Ryzen 7/9), 16GB or more of RAM, a 1TB+ SSD, and a faster display (300Hz FHD or 165Hz QHD) each add to your offer. Selecting these accurately above gives you the best quote.
