The Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Detachable (Gen 2), launched in 2024, is Lenovo's business-class 2-in-1 — a 12.3-inch Windows tablet with a magnesium-aluminium body, a detachable folio keyboard, and a kickstand, built to MIL-STD-810H durability standards. Under the hood it runs Intel's Core Ultra (Series 1) processors with a built-in NPU, which is the single clearest way to separate it from the original X12 Detachable (Gen 1) from 2021, which used 11th-gen Intel Core chips. The two generations share the same chassis and screen, so the processor is what tells them apart. If you've been thinking about where to sell your tablet online, our trade-in service buys it outright for cash — no buyer negotiation, no listing fees. Before you choose your configuration above, confirm you have the Gen 2 (Core Ultra), and don't confuse it with a Surface Pro or other detachable. Match the model, then select your specs above for an instant cash offer.

Confirm your exact ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2

The Gen 1 and Gen 2 look nearly identical — same 12.3" screen, same detachable folio keyboard. The processor is the deciding factor. Check Settings → System → About, or the machine-type model (MT) on the back of the tablet:

Gen 2 — Intel Core Ultra 5 / 7 MT prefixes 21LK / 21LL Has an NPU (AI Boost)

This is the Gen 2 if…

  • The processor reads Intel Core Ultra 5 134U or Core Ultra 7 164U
  • One of the USB-C ports is Thunderbolt 4
  • The machine type begins 21LK or 21LL

It is NOT this page if…

  • The processor is an 11th-gen Intel Core i3/i5/i7 → that is the original X12 Detachable (Gen 1, 2021)
  • It runs a Microsoft SQ or non-Lenovo branding → that is a Surface Pro, not a ThinkPad
  • The screen is larger than 12.3" or carries a different ThinkPad name → a different model line

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I confirm I have the Gen 2 and not the original X12 Detachable (Gen 1)?
Check the processor under Settings → System → About. The Gen 2 runs an Intel Core Ultra 5 134U or Core Ultra 7 164U (with an AI Boost NPU); the Gen 1 from 2021 runs an 11th-gen Intel Core i3, i5, or i7. A physical tell: the Gen 2 has a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port. The machine type on the back of the Gen 2 begins 21LK or 21LL. Our guide to finding your gadget's model shows exactly where to look.
02 Can I upgrade the RAM or storage before selling?
The RAM cannot be upgraded — the X12 Detachable Gen 2 uses LPDDR5X memory soldered directly to the board, so whatever you bought (16GB or 32GB) is fixed for the life of the device. The storage is a single M.2 2242 NVMe SSD and is technically replaceable, but it uses the shorter 2242 form factor rather than the common 2280 size, so replacements are less widely available. Whatever your configuration is now sets the trade-in value, so just select it accurately above.
03 How do I wipe my data and remove my account before shipping?
Back up anything you want to keep, then sign out of your Microsoft account and run Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC → Remove everything. If you have a cellular (WWAN) model, also remove the physical nano-SIM and clear any eSIM profile. There's no need to open the tablet or pull the SSD yourself — our team performs certified data sanitation on every device that reaches us, and this model's drive uses Opal 2.0 hardware encryption. Review the full process on the data erasure protocols page.
04 What raises my X12 Detachable Gen 2 value, and why use a trade-in service?
A Core Ultra 7 with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD earns the most, and cellular (4G LTE WWAN) models carry a premium for built-in connectivity. Because the folio keyboard and Lenovo pen were configuration-dependent extras and are expensive on their own, including them meaningfully lifts your offer — as does a crack-free screen and a healthy battery. Compared with listing on eBay, Swappa, or Facebook Marketplace, where you handle photos, buyer questions, payment risk, and shipping, our trade-in service gives you one upfront cash quote and a free, insured prepaid label. Many people don't realize there's a simple cash option for business detachables like this — we buy the full ThinkPad range.
05 How fast do I get paid, and what payment methods are available?
Once your ThinkPad X12 arrives at our facility and our team completes functional and cosmetic inspection, payment is approved within two business days. Most sellers have money in hand within roughly 5–7 business days of drop-off. You choose how to get paid: PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or CashApp for fast digital transfers, or a physical check by mail. Your prepaid UPS shipping label is free and the shipment is insured.
