The MSI Thin A15 is MSI's budget-friendly, AMD-powered 15.6-inch gaming laptop. Retailers carried it in the US throughout 2024 and 2025. It came in three versions that look almost identical. The Thin A15 B7U uses a Ryzen 7000-series processor with NVIDIA RTX 2050 or RTX 3050 graphics. The Thin A15 B7V keeps the same processors and moves up to an RTX 4050 or RTX 4060. The Thin A15 AI (B8V) switches to a Ryzen 8000-series processor with a built-in AI engine, paired with an RTX 4060. Every version weighs about 4.1 lb and is 0.85" thin, with a Cosmos Gray chassis, a 144Hz Full HD display, and a blue-backlit keyboard. The model code on the bottom sticker (for example, B7UCX, B7VE, B7VF, or B8VF) shows your processor and graphics card. Those two parts set most of your laptop's value. 

Which Thin A15 do you have?

Turn the laptop over and look at the white sticker. The model code reads Thin A15 B7U__-___US, Thin A15 B7V__-___US, or Thin A15 B8V__-___US. The letters after it tell you the graphics card.

Can't read the sticker? Use this simple check: press the Windows key, type msinfo32, and press Enter. In the System Information window, look at three lines:

  • System Model: your Thin A15 model code
  • Processor: shows "Ryzen 5 7535HS," "Ryzen 7 7735HS," or "Ryzen 9 8945HS"
  • Installed Physical Memory (RAM): your memory

Display

15.6-inch Full HD (1920 × 1080) IPS-level panel at 144Hz with thin bezels and a matte finish. Every version of the Thin A15 uses this one screen. The color range is basic (about 57% sRGB), so it suits gaming better than photo editing. There is no touchscreen, no QHD or 4K option, and no OLED option.

Audio

Two 2W speakers with High-Resolution Audio support. It also has a built-in microphone, a headphone-out jack, and a microphone-in jack.

All three versions share the same port selection. You can connect up to two external monitors through the USB-C and HDMI ports.

3-cell 52.4Wh battery with a 120W barrel-plug adapter. The battery is small for a gaming laptop, so plan on keeping the charger nearby for gaming. Include the original 120W adapter when you sell.

720p HD webcam. There is no IR camera for Windows Hello face sign-in and no privacy shutter.

Keyboard

Full-size keyboard with a number pad and single-color blue backlighting (not RGB). The B8V models add a dedicated Copilot key.

14.13" wide × 10.0" deep × 0.85" thick. The Cosmos Gray chassis has a brushed-metal-look pattern on the lid, but it is made of plastic, not aluminum.

01 How do I find out which MSI Thin A15 I have?
Flip the laptop over and read the model code on the white sticker, for example, Thin A15 B7VE-214US. The letters after "B7" or "B8" tell you the graphics card:
  • UCX = RTX 2050
  • UC = RTX 3050
  • VE = RTX 4050
  • VF = RTX 4060
"B8" models use the Ryzen 9 8945HS. "B7" models use either the Ryzen 5 7535HS or the Ryzen 7 7735HS. The sticker doesn't say which, so check msinfo32: press the Windows key, type msinfo32, press Enter, and read the "Processor" line. 02 My MSI laptop looks similar. Is it a Thin A15 or a different model?
MSI uses the same B7V and B8V codes on some of its other AMD laptops, so read the product name on the sticker, not just the code. Other MSI models with similar names or codes include:
  • Katana A15 and Katana A15 AI: also AMD with B7V/B8V codes, but a different, thicker chassis with a red-backlit keyboard
  • Bravo 15: older AMD model
  • Thin 15 and Thin GF63: Intel processors
  • Cyborg 15: Intel processor with a see-through design
These are different laptops, each with its own resale value. A genuine Thin A15 always says "Thin A15" on the sticker and in msinfo32's System Model. It also has an AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS, Ryzen 7 7735HS, or Ryzen 9 8945HS processor, a 15.6-inch 144Hz Full HD screen, and a blue-backlit keyboard. 03 Will you buy a Thin A15 that's damaged, worn, or upgraded?

05 How do I wipe and ship my Thin A15, and how do I get paid?
Before you ship, follow these steps:
  • Back up your files and game saves.
  • Sign out of your Microsoft account, Steam, and other game launchers.
  • Turn off Find my device under Settings → Privacy & security.
  • If Device Encryption or BitLocker is on, save your recovery key or turn encryption off.
  • Reset Windows under Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC → Remove everything.
