Sony PlayStation 5 Slim launched in 2023 as a redesigned, more compact version of Sony's ninth-generation console, sold under the CFI-2000 model series in both Disc and Digital Edition variants. It was built for the same audience as the original PS5 — console gamers who want native 4K output, fast SSD load times, and the DualSense controller's haptic feedback — but in a smaller chassis with more onboard storage. Demand for it stays steady because it's the current-generation Sony console and still receives new game releases and system updates. Pick your version and controller status in the picker above for a live cash offer, or see how the trade-in process works before you commit. If you'd rather sell a different console, the gaming console category has options for that too.
Confirm you have the PlayStation 5 Slim
The fastest way to confirm your exact model is on the console itself. Go to Settings → System → System Information and read the full model number listed there. You can also check the sticker on the underside of the console, which lists the model code directly.
Slim Disc Edition
- Model number begins CFI-2000, disc variant
- Built-in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive
- Disc slot with eject button on the front panel
- Ships with a vertical stand in the box
Slim Digital Edition
- Model number begins CFI-2000, digital variant
- No built-in disc drive; games install from the PlayStation Store
- Front panel has no disc slot
- Accepts Sony's official detachable disc drive, sold separately
Prefer a visual check? Look at the front panel first: a disc slot with an eject button means Disc Edition, a smooth panel means Digital Edition. The Slim is also noticeably shorter and narrower than the original launch PS5, with a textured center strip instead of the original's glossy side panels.
Core hardware
Processor
- Custom AMD Zen 2 eight-core CPU
- Same processor across both Disc and Digital Edition
Graphics
- Custom AMD RDNA 2 GPU
- Hardware-accelerated ray tracing support
Memory
- 16GB GDDR6 unified memory, shared between CPU and GPU
- Not user-upgradable

- A working, higher-capacity internal drive tends to move resale value more than any other single factor
Display & audio
Outputs native 4K resolution and supports up to 120Hz refresh rate on compatible displays through HDMI 2.1. No built-in screen; the console connects to an external TV or monitor.
Tempest 3D AudioTech delivers positional sound through compatible headphones or supported TV speaker setups, without needing a separate sound bar.
Ports & connectivity
Port placement changed with the Slim redesign, so double-check which side has which connector before you assume it matches the original PS5 layout.

Battery, build & more
No internal battery. The console draws power directly from the wall through its AC input. The DualSense controller charges over USB-C and holds a charge for a single play session between recharges.
Notably smaller and lighter than the original launch PS5, thanks to a redesigned internal layout, smaller heatsink, and revised cooling. It stands vertically on the included stand or lies flat horizontally.
Finished in matte white with a textured center panel. Digital Edition owners can add Sony's official detachable disc drive later without buying a new console.
Runs current PS5 system software and is backward compatible with the large majority of PS4 titles. Regular firmware updates continue for this generation.
