The Alienware m15 R5 — officially the Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5 (regulatory model P109F) — released in May 2021, was a landmark machine: Alienware's first 15.6-inch gaming laptop in years to pair an AMD Ryzen processor with NVIDIA graphics. Built on the “Legend 2.0” design in Dark Side of the Moon (black) or Lunar Light (white), it delivered strong Ryzen 5000 performance, NVIDIA RTX 30-series graphics, and fast display options up to 360Hz. Because the m15 R5 was highly customizable at checkout — two processors, several graphics tiers, three screen options, two keyboard styles, and a wide range of memory and storage — and because its RAM and storage are user-upgradeable (so yours may differ from the factory build), your exact configuration decides its final resale price. If you're looking to sell your m15 R5, our Alienware trade-in page gives you a real cash offer — just pick your components using the tool above to see an instant quote for your exact device.
Core hardware configurations
Processor (CPU)
- AMD Ryzen 7 5800H — 8 cores, 16 threads, up to 4.4 GHz, 20MB cache
- AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX — 8 cores, 16 threads, up to 4.6 GHz, 20MB cache (unlocked)
- Both are Zen 3 (Ryzen 5000 “Cezanne”) processors — this generation is AMD-only
Graphics (GPU)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti — 4GB GDDR6
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 — 6GB GDDR6
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 — 8GB GDDR6 (115W, +10W Dynamic Boost)
- The RTX 3080 was not offered on this model — that was exclusive to the Intel m15 R6
Memory (RAM)
- DDR4-3200 memory, offered in 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB
- Two SO-DIMM slots — user-upgradeable (up to 32GB), so your m15 R5 may hold more or less than it originally shipped with
Storage
- M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (SSD)
- 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB single-drive capacities
- Supports a second M.2 drive (dual-drive, non-RAID) for up to 4TB total. Drives are user-accessible
Make sure you have the m15 R5 (and not an m15 R6, R7, or R4)
Alienware sold several similar 15.6-inch models, and the R5 and R6 are especially easy to mix up — so a quick 30-second check keeps you from picking the wrong product. The two cards below cover the model you're on this page for and the ones it's most often confused with.
This model — m15 R5 (Ryzen Edition, 2021)
The regulatory model is P109F, and the giveaway is the processor: an AMD Ryzen chip (Ryzen 7 5800H or Ryzen 9 5900HX). The lid has an etched “15” next to the alien-head logo. If your laptop has an AMD Ryzen 5000 processor and a 15-inch screen, you're in the right place.
Not this one — the close relatives
The m15 R6 (2021) is the Intel version of this same generation (11th-Gen Core), and it's the only one that offered an RTX 3080 and a 360Hz-plus panel pairing. The m15 R7 (2022) is the next generation (12th-Gen Intel or Ryzen 6000, DDR5). The m15 R4 (2020) is the older Intel model. The x15 is a thinner premium sibling. If any of those match your label, pick that model when you request a quote.
Where to find it: the model name and regulatory code (P109F) are printed on the label on the bottom cover, along with your Dell Service Tag. The simplest check is the processor — type “System Information” into the Windows Start menu and read the Processor line: if it starts with AMD Ryzen, you have the R5 (an Intel chip means the R6). Our guide to finding your Alienware model number and our how to find your processor type walkthrough show exactly where to look.
Display & audio
Display
A 15.6-inch anti-glare panel offered in three options: Full HD (1920 × 1080) 165Hz with 100% sRGB; Full HD 360Hz with 100% sRGB, G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus (ideal for competitive gaming); or QHD (2560 × 1440) 240Hz with 100% DCI-P3, 400 nits, G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus. The 360Hz and QHD 240Hz panels typically fetch a higher trade-in value, so it's worth noting which one you have.
Audio
Dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos tuning, plus a built-in array microphone and a 720p HD webcam.
Ports & connectivity
A well-rounded port set, with power and video routed to the rear to keep cables tidy. Note the m15 R5 charges only through its barrel-style power adapter — you cannot charge it over the USB-C port. Because this is the AMD model, it does not have Thunderbolt.
- 1× USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (with DisplayPort; no Thunderbolt on this AMD model; does not charge the laptop)
- 1× HDMI 2.1
- 1× Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45, 2.5G)
- 1× DC-in (barrel power connector)
- 3× USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (one with PowerShare)
- 1× 3.5mm global headset jack
- No SD / microSD card reader on this model
