The Alienware x15 Series is Dell's ultra-thin 15.6-inch gaming line, spanning two generations: the x15 R1 (2021) and the x15 R2 (2022). Both share the same striking Alienware Legend 2.0 design — a Lunar Light (white) magnesium-alloy chassis, the glowing "Tron ring" light bar around the rear, and nearly all ports hidden on the back edge — packed into a profile just 0.63 inches thick. Both generations also carry the identical regulatory model number (P111F), so telling them apart comes down to your processor, graphics, and memory type rather than the badge on the bottom. Because these laptops were fully customizable at checkout, your exact combination of parts sets the final cash offer. Many people don't realize a thin, older gaming laptop like this still holds meaningful resale value — trading it in for cash through our service is often faster and simpler than listing it yourself and dealing with buyers. Select your components using the tool above to see an instant offer for your exact device.

Which Alienware x15 do you have?

Both generations look almost identical from the outside — same chassis, same lid, same rear light ring. The differences are internal. Use the two cards below to confirm which one you're selling. If you're not comfortable opening system menus, the quick giveaways are your Intel processor generation and whether your graphics card has a "Ti" in the name (R2 only).

✅ Alienware x15 R1 (2021)

  • Regulatory model: P111F (type P111F001)
  • Processor: 11th Gen Intel "Tiger Lake" — Core i5-11400H, i7-11800H, or i9-11900H
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 3060, RTX 3070, or RTX 3080 (no "Ti" models)
  • Memory type: DDR4-3200 (upgradable — see below)
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 5.2
  • Release year: 2021 (sold into 2022)

✅ Alienware x15 R2 (2022)

  • Regulatory model: P111F (same chassis as R1)
  • Processor: 12th Gen Intel "Alder Lake" — Core i7-12700H or i9-12900H
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 3060, RTX 3070 Ti, or RTX 3080 Ti
  • Memory type: LPDDR5-5200 (soldered — not upgradable)
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.2
  • Release year: 2022

Fastest way to tell them apart: If your graphics card is an RTX 3070 Ti or 3080 Ti, or your processor starts with "12" (like the i7-12700H), you have the R2. An 11th-gen chip (i7-11800H) with a plain RTX 3060/3070/3080 (no "Ti") is the R1. Don't confuse the x15 with the 14-inch x14 or the 17-inch x17 — those are different-sized machines with their own model numbers. See our Alienware model number guide for step-by-step help.

Core hardware configurations

Processor (CPU)

Display & audio

Display

Both generations offer the same three 15.6-inch anti-glare panel choices:

  • FHD 1920 × 1080 @ 165Hz — 300 nits, 100% sRGB
  • FHD 1920 × 1080 @ 360Hz — 300 nits, 100% sRGB, G-Sync, Advanced Optimus (esports panel)
  • QHD 2560 × 1440 @ 240Hz — 400 nits, 99% DCI-P3, G-Sync, Advanced Optimus (sharpest option)

The R2's panels add Dolby Vision certification. There is no 4K/UHD option on the x15.

Audio

Dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos spatial audio (Dolby Vision + Atmos on the R2). No dedicated subwoofer.

Ports & connectivity

Like all Alienware x-series machines, almost every port sits on the rear of the chassis so cables route cleanly out the back. Both generations share the same layout. Note that these rear ports are unlit and unlabeled, which can make them hard to see.

Rear
  • 1× Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) with Power Delivery & DisplayPort
  • 1× USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with Power Delivery & DisplayPort
  • 1× HDMI 2.1
  • 1× Power adapter input (DC-in) (unlike the smaller x14, the x15 does use a dedicated barrel charger)
Side
  • 1× USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (with PowerShare) (only one full-size USB-A port on this machine)
  • 1× microSD card reader (microSD only — this is not a full-size SD slot)
  • 1× 3.5mm headset (headphone/microphone combo) jack

No built-in Ethernet port. The x15 has no RJ-45 LAN jack on the body — Dell included a USB-C-to-Ethernet dongle in the box instead. If yours is missing, wired networking needs an adapter.

Wi-Fi 6 (R1) Wi-Fi 6E (R2) Bluetooth 5.2

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I find the exact model of my Alienware x15?
Flip the laptop over and look at the label on the bottom cover. You'll see a 7-character Service Tag and the regulatory model P111F — this appears on both the R1 and R2, so the label alone won't tell you the generation. To confirm which one you have, the easiest check is your processor: in Windows, press Win + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter, then read the "Processor" line. A chip starting with 11 (e.g. i7-11800H) is the R1; one starting with 12 (e.g. i7-12700H) is the R2. You can also open Alienware Command Center for a full spec readout. Step-by-step help is in our Alienware model number guide.
02 How is the x15 different from the x14, x17, or the R1 vs R2?
This page is for the 15.6-inch x15 only. The x14 is the smaller 14-inch model and the x17 is the larger 17-inch one — both have different model numbers and their own sell pages, so measure your screen if you're unsure. Within the x15 family, the two generations matter a lot for valuation: the R1 (2021) uses 11th-gen Intel, plain RTX 30-series graphics (no "Ti"), and upgradable DDR4 memory; the R2 (2022) uses faster 12th-gen Intel, steps up to RTX 3070 Ti / 3080 Ti graphics, and uses soldered LPDDR5 memory. Picking the correct generation and GPU is what produces an accurate quote. For a full walkthrough, our Alienware trade-in guide covers the process end to end.
03 Can I sell an x15 with wear, a cracked screen, or other issues?
Yes. We buy these laptops in every condition — flawless, cosmetically worn, or not fully working. A cracked screen, worn chassis, weak battery, loud fans, or thermal throttling (something the thin x15 is known for under heavy load) will lower the offer but won't disqualify your machine, since the GPU, CPU, storage, and display panel often retain value on their own. Just describe the condition honestly using the grading options above; our technicians test every device on arrival, and being upfront avoids a revised offer later. Keep in mind that on the R2 the RAM is soldered, so memory-related damage has a bigger impact than on the R1, whose DDR4 modules can be swapped.
04 Which configurations raise my x15's trade-in value the most?
Many people don't realize just how much the GPU drives the price on a gaming laptop. An RTX 3080 Ti (R2) commands the strongest offer in the x15 lineup, followed by the 3080, 3070 Ti, and 3070, with the RTX 3060 at the entry tier. After the GPU, an R2 generation (newer 12th-gen platform and faster LPDDR5), a Core i9 processor, 32GB of RAM, a larger 1TB+ SSD, and the QHD 240Hz or FHD 360Hz display all push your offer higher. Because the R2's RAM is soldered and can't be added to later, a factory 32GB R2 is worth noticeably more than a 16GB one. Select your exact specs above and the offer updates automatically.
05 How do you handle my data, and how do I get paid?
Before boxing it up, back up your files, sign out of your Microsoft, Dell, and game launcher accounts (Steam, Epic, EA App, Xbox, etc.), and ideally run a factory reset via Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC. You don't need to remove the SSD yourself — our team performs certified data wiping on every drive as standard. See our Data Erasure Protocols for details. Once your laptop arrives and passes inspection, payment is approved within two business days via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, or a mailed check. The prepaid, insured UPS shipping label is completely free. New to selling a gaming laptop this way? Our guide on how and where to sell a used Alienware laptop walks through every step.
