The Alienware x16 Series was Dell's flagship "thin-and-premium" 16-inch gaming line, spanning two generations: the x16 R1 (2023) and the x16 R2 (2024). Billed by Dell as its "most premium gaming laptop" and its first 16-inch machine in nearly two decades, the x16 wraps a full-metal Legend 3.0 chassis — Lunar Silver aluminum lid, curved edges, a signature RGB "stadium loop" light ring, and even an RGB touchpad — around desktop-class NVIDIA RTX 40-series graphics. The R1 shipped in both Intel and AMD Ryzen flavors; the R2 is Intel-only. Both generations carry the same regulatory model number (P120F), so telling them apart comes down to your processor and memory rather than the label on the bottom. Because these laptops were fully customizable at checkout, your exact combination of parts sets the final cash offer. Many people don't realize a premium gaming laptop like this still holds strong resale value — trading it in for cash through our service is often faster and simpler than listing it yourself and dealing with buyers. Select your components using the tool above to see an instant offer for your exact device.

Which Alienware x16 do you have?

Both generations look identical from the outside — same chassis, same lid, same light ring. The differences are internal. Use the two cards below to confirm which one you're selling. If you're not comfortable opening system menus, the easiest tell is your processor name: a "13th Gen Core i" or a "Ryzen" chip means R1; a "Core Ultra" chip means R2.

✅ Alienware x16 R1 (2023)

  • Regulatory model: P120F (types P120F001 / P120F003)
  • Processor — Intel: 13th Gen Core i7-13620H, i7-13700H, or i9-13900HK
  • Processor — AMD: Ryzen 5 7640HS, Ryzen 7 7840HS, or Ryzen 9 7940HS
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 4050, 4060, 4070, 4080, or 4090
  • Memory: LPDDR5, up to 6400 MHz (soldered)
  • Release year: 2023

✅ Alienware x16 R2 (2024)

  • Regulatory model: P120F (same chassis as R1)
  • Processor: Intel Core Ultra 7 155H or Core Ultra 9 185H (Intel only — no AMD, no "Core i")
  • Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 4060, 4070, 4080, or 4090
  • Memory: LPDDR5X, 7467 MHz (soldered — faster than R1)
  • Wireless: upgraded to Wi-Fi 7
  • Release year: 2024

Fastest way to tell them apart: Check your processor name (Windows: press Win + R, type msinfo32, Enter). A processor that says "Core Ultra" is the R2. A "13th Gen Core i" or an "AMD Ryzen" chip is the R1. Don't confuse the x16 with the thicker, boxier m16 (a heavier performance model with a different chassis and its own model number), or with the newer Alienware 16 Aurora and 16 Area-51 laptops from 2024–2025, which dropped the "x" and are a different product line entirely. See our Alienware model number guide for step-by-step help.

  • FHD+ 1920 × 1200 @ 480Hz — 300 nits, 100% DCI-P3 (esports panel)

All panels support Dolby Vision. There is no 4K/UHD option on the x16.

Audio

Six-speaker system (dual tweeters + quad woofers) with Dolby Atmos spatial audio — a notably richer setup than most thin gaming laptops.

Ports & connectivity

As with all Alienware x-series machines, nearly every port sits on the rear of the chassis, so cables route cleanly out the back. Both generations share the same layout. Note that only one of the two USB-C ports carries Thunderbolt.

Rear
  • 1× Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) with Power Delivery & DisplayPort 1.4 (on Intel models; AMD R1 uses USB4 on this port)
  • 1× USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 with Power Delivery & DisplayPort 1.4
  • 2× USB-A 3.2 Gen 1
  • 1× HDMI 2.1
  • 1× Mini DisplayPort 1.4
  • 1× Power adapter input (DC-in)
Side
  • 1× microSD card reader (microSD only — this is not a full-size SD slot)
  • 1× 3.5mm headset (headphone/microphone combo) jack

No built-in Ethernet port. The x16 has no RJ-45 LAN jack on the body — wired networking requires a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter.

Wi-Fi 6E (R1) Wi-Fi 7 (R2) Bluetooth 5.2 / 5.4

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I find the exact model of my Alienware x16?
Flip the laptop over and look at the label on the bottom cover. You'll see a 7-character Service Tag and the regulatory model P120F — this appears on both the R1 and R2, so the label alone won't tell you the generation. To confirm which one you have, check your processor: in Windows, press Win + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter, then read the "Processor" line. A chip that says "Core Ultra" (like Core Ultra 9 185H) is the R2; a "13th Gen Core i" (like i9-13900HK) or an "AMD Ryzen" chip is the R1. You can also open Alienware Command Center for a full spec readout. Step-by-step help is in our Alienware model number guide.
02 How is the x16 different from the m16, the "Alienware 16," or R1 vs R2?
This page is for the thin, premium x16 only. Don't confuse it with the m16, which is a thicker, heavier performance model with a boxier chassis, an Ethernet port, and its own model number. Also note the newer Alienware 16 Aurora and 16 Area-51 (2024–2025) dropped the "x" and are a separate line — if your laptop says just "16" with no "x," it isn't an x16. Within the x16 family, the two generations matter for valuation: the R1 (2023) uses 13th-gen Intel or AMD Ryzen 7000 chips and offers the RTX 4050 at entry; the R2 (2024) is Intel Core Ultra only, has faster LPDDR5X memory and Wi-Fi 7, and starts at the RTX 4060. Selecting the correct generation, CPU brand, and GPU is what produces an accurate quote. For a full walkthrough, our Alienware trade-in guide covers the process end to end.
03 Can I sell an x16 with wear, a cracked screen, or other issues?
Yes. We buy these laptops in every condition — flawless, cosmetically worn, or not fully working. A cracked screen, worn chassis, weak battery, loud fans, or thermal throttling under load will lower the offer but won't disqualify your machine, since the GPU, CPU, storage, and display panel often retain value on their own. Just describe the condition honestly using the grading options above; our technicians test every device on arrival, and being upfront avoids a revised offer later. Keep in mind the RAM is soldered on both generations, so memory-related faults have a bigger impact than on laptops with removable modules.
04 Which configurations raise my x16's trade-in value the most?
Many people don't realize just how much the GPU drives the price on a gaming laptop. An RTX 4090 commands by far the strongest offer in the x16 lineup, followed by the 4080, 4070, and 4060, with the RTX 4050 (R1 only) at the entry tier. After the GPU, a newer R2 generation (Core Ultra platform, faster LPDDR5X, Wi-Fi 7), a top-tier CPU, 32GB of RAM, a larger 1TB+ SSD, and the optional CherryMX mechanical keyboard all push your offer higher. Because the RAM is soldered and can't be added to later, a factory 32GB unit is worth noticeably more than a 16GB one. Select your exact specs above and the offer updates automatically.
05 How do you handle my data, and how do I get paid?
Before boxing it up, back up your files, sign out of your Microsoft, Dell, and game launcher accounts (Steam, Epic, EA App, Xbox, etc.), and ideally run a factory reset via Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC. You don't need to remove the SSD yourself — our team performs certified data wiping on every drive as standard. See our Data Erasure Protocols for details. Once your laptop arrives and passes inspection, payment is approved within two business days via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, or a mailed check. The prepaid, insured UPS shipping label is completely free. New to selling a gaming laptop this way? Our guide on how and where to sell a used Alienware laptop walks through every step.
