The Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022) was announced on June 6, 2022 and went on sale on June 24, 2022, with a starting price of $1,299. Built around Apple's M2 chip with an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, it carries regulatory Model A2338 (EMC 8162) and Model Identifier Mac14,7, and it was sold in Space Gray or Silver until October 2023. It pairs a 13.3-inch Retina display with the Touch Bar and Touch ID, and its memory and storage were chosen at checkout and can never be changed, so those two choices decide most of what your laptop is worth today. Many owners don't realize they can trade in a MacBook online for cash instead of dealing with marketplace buyers: select your memory and storage in the tool above for an instant offer, ship it free, and get paid within two business days of arrival.

How to identify your exact model

You don't need any technical know-how to check. If your MacBook turns on, click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of the screen and choose About This Mac. The window should read MacBook Pro, 13-inch, M2, 2022, with Apple M2 listed next to "Chip." The Memory line shows your RAM (8GB, 16GB, or 24GB). For storage, open the Apple logo menu, then go to System Settings → General → Storage (on older macOS versions, click the Storage tab inside About This Mac). If the laptop won't power on, look for the strip of buttons above the number keys, called the Touch Bar, and check the fine print on the bottom case for "Model A2338" and "EMC 8162."

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I check which memory and storage my MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022) has?
It takes less than a minute. Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen and choose About This Mac. Confirm it says "MacBook Pro, 13-inch, M2, 2022," then write down the number next to Memory. Next, open the Apple logo menu, choose System Settings, click General, and then Storage to see your total capacity (256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB). Those two numbers are all you need for the quote tool above. If your Mac won't start, the original box or your Apple receipt lists both, or our guide to finding your Apple laptop's model number shows you where to look.
02 The bottom of my laptop says A2338. Is that enough to know I have the 2022 model?
Not on its own. Apple printed the same A2338 model number on more than one 13-inch MacBook Pro, and they look almost identical from the outside. To be sure, check the EMC number printed next to it on the bottom case: this model is EMC 8162. You can also confirm in About This Mac that the chip reads Apple M2 and the year reads 2022, or in System Report that the Model Identifier is Mac14,7. If any of those don't match, quoting here would lead to a revised offer after inspection, so find your exact match on our MacBook Pro trade-in page instead.
03 Will you buy my MacBook Pro if the screen, Touch Bar, or battery has problems?
Yes. We buy MacBook Pros in every condition, including cracked or stained screens, an unresponsive Touch Bar, a battery that says "Service Recommended," sticky keys, liquid damage, and laptops that won't turn on. Choose your cosmetic condition, select Defective if anything doesn't work, and check each issue that applies so your offer matches the laptop's real condition. Missing the 67W charger? Just select No under "Charger Included." Because memory and storage on this model are permanently built in, quote the exact amounts shown on your Mac; nobody can have upgraded them since it left the factory.
04 What makes my 2022 MacBook Pro worth more, and why trade it in instead of selling it myself?
Since every unit has the same M2 chip, many people don't realize that memory and storage are what really separate one offer from another. A built-to-order unit with 16GB or 24GB of memory, or 1TB or 2TB of storage, is worth noticeably more than the base 8GB / 256GB model. After that, condition, battery health, and including the original charger make the biggest difference. Many sellers also don't realize there's a simpler option than a marketplace listing. Our online trade-in service gives you a firm instant offer that stays locked for 30 days, a free prepaid and insured UPS shipping label, and no listing fees, haggling, or meetups with strangers. If our inspection finds a different condition than you described, we'll email a revised offer, and if you decline it, we'll ship your MacBook back free. Learn more in our MacBook trade-in guide and see what drives resale prices in how much is my MacBook worth.
05 How do I wipe my MacBook Pro and turn off Activation Lock, and how do I get paid?
First, back up your files with Time Machine or iCloud. Then turn off Activation Lock by signing out of your Apple Account: open System Settings, click your name at the top, and choose Sign Out. This also turns off Find My, and we can't pay for a Mac that is still locked to an Apple Account. Next, go to System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Erase All Content and Settings. If your MacBook was issued by an employer or school, ask your IT team to release it from device management (MDM) before you ship. Every laptop we receive also goes through NIST 800-88 data erasure, as explained in our data erasure protocols. Once your MacBook arrives and passes inspection, we send payment within two business days by check, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App. Packing tips are in our shipping instructions.
