The Dell 14 (DC14250) is the 14-inch entry model of Dell's 2025 consumer laptop generation — the first year Dell dropped the "Inspiron" name and re-badged its mainstream line simply as "Dell 14," "Dell 15," and "Dell 16." Dell's own product brief confirms this machine was formerly sold as the Inspiron 14 (5440), and it carries forward that chassis with refreshed Intel Series 1 U-series processors, DDR5 memory, and a 16:10 display. It shipped in two very different builds — a polycarbonate plastic chassis and an aluminum chassis — and those two builds do not have the same webcam, privacy shutter, or weight, so the version you own directly affects your payout. Units remained on retail shelves through 2026. Select your exact configuration using our tool above to see an instant cash offer for your device.
Model identification
Names & numbers this laptop goes by
- Marketing name: Dell 14
- Model number: DC14250
- Regulatory model: P185G
- Regulatory type: P185G001 (service-parts listings also reference P185G004)
- Model year: 2025 (sold into 2026)
- Former name: Inspiron 14 (5440) — not the same listing, see the warning below
The easiest check: flip it over
- Close the lid and turn the laptop upside down.
- Read the small printed block of text on the bottom cover.
- You are looking for a line that reads "Dell 14" and a separate Service Tag — a 7-character code of letters and numbers.
- The Service Tag is the single most useful thing you can give us. It decodes the exact processor, memory, storage, and display your unit left the factory with.
No sticker? Check it on-screen instead
- Press the Windows key, type msinfo32, and press Enter.
- Look at the row labelled System Model. It will read Dell 14 DC14250.
- The rows below it show your installed memory and processor, too.
- Prefer a walkthrough with pictures? Use our Dell model number guide or the general laptop model number guide.
Which chassis do you have?
- Plastic (PC+ABS): sold in Carbon Black or Platinum Silver. Lid flexes slightly and feels warm to the touch. No camera privacy shutter.
- Aluminum: sold in Platinum Silver or Midnight Blue. Lid is cold, rigid metal. Has a small sliding tab above the screen to cover the camera.
- That sliding tab is the fastest way to tell them apart without any software.

Core hardware configurations
Processor (CPU)
- Intel Core 3 100U (Series 1) — 6 cores, up to 4.7 GHz
- Intel Core 5 120U (Series 1) — 10 cores, up to 5.0 GHz
- Intel Core 5 220U (Series 1) — 10 cores, up to 5.0 GHz (SIPP / stable-image build)
- Intel Core 7 150U (Series 1) — 10 cores, up to 5.4 GHz
- These are low-power "U" chips, not H-series. If your sticker or msinfo32 shows a Core Ultra, an "H" suffix, or an AMD Ryzen chip, you are on the wrong page — see the adjacent-model warning below.
Graphics (GPU)
- Intel Graphics (integrated) — the overwhelming majority of units
- NVIDIA GeForce MX570A, 2GB GDDR6 — optional, and only offered alongside Core 5 and Core 7 processors. Never paired with the Core 3.
- Dell scheduled the MX570A option for end-of-life in December 2025, which makes discrete-graphics units comparatively uncommon and worth flagging on your quote.
- No RTX or GTX graphics were ever offered on this model. This is not a gaming laptop.
Memory (RAM)
- DDR5-5200 SO-DIMM — socketed, not soldered. Two accessible slots under the bottom cover.
- Factory options: 8GB (1×8), 16GB (1×16), 16GB (2×8), 32GB (1×32), 32GB (2×16)
- Maximum capacity: 32GB.
- Single-stick builds run in single channel and are noticeably slower than the 2× dual-channel builds. Tell us which you have — it affects the offer.
- Because the RAM is removable, an owner-installed upgrade counts toward your quote. Quote what is physically installed today, not what it shipped with.
Storage
- 512GB or 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe solid-state drive
- Only one M.2 slot is available for storage, and it is the short M.2 2230 size — not the longer 2280 card most people picture. The second M.2 2230 slot is occupied by the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card and cannot hold a drive.
- No second drive bay. No 2.5-inch hard drive bay. No optical drive.
- If you replaced the SSD yourself, that capacity is what we grade against.
Display & audio
Display
14.0-inch 16:10 anti-glare, non-touch WVA panel at 300 nits, offered in two resolutions: FHD+ (1920 × 1200) with software-based ComfortView, or 2.5K (2560 × 1600) with hardware-based ComfortView Plus. Both carry TÜV Rheinland low-blue-light certification. No touchscreen was offered on this model.
Heads up on retail labelling: some third-party listings advertise the 1920 × 1200 panel as "2K." Dell's own documentation reserves "2.5K" for the 2560 × 1600 panel. To check yours, right-click the desktop → Display settings → read the Display resolution box. The higher-resolution panel is worth more.
Audio & camera
Two tuned speakers with Dolby Atmos Core. Webcam hardware is split by chassis and is not interchangeable:
- Plastic chassis: HD 720p webcam, single digital microphone array, temporal noise reduction. No privacy shutter.
- Aluminum chassis: FHD 1080p webcam, dual digital microphone array, plus a mechanical privacy shutter.
Ports & connectivity
Port layout is identical across both the plastic and aluminum builds. This is a value-oriented port set — several connections buyers commonly assume are present simply are not on this machine.
- 1× Power jack (round barrel connector — this is the port the included charger uses)
- 1× HDMI 1.4 (caps out at 1920×1080 @ 60Hz — no 4K or 2K output over HDMI)
- 1× USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
- 1× USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (carries DisplayPort video out and Power Delivery charging)
- 1× SD card reader
- 1× 3.5mm universal headset jack
- 1× USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
- 1× Wedge-shaped security lock slot
2×2 Wi-Fi 6 (Realtek RTL8852BE) Bluetooth TPM 2.0 MIL-STD-810H tested ENERGY STAR EPEAT Silver, Climate+
What this laptop does not have
- No Thunderbolt — the USB-C port is USB 3.2 Gen 2 only
- No Ethernet / RJ-45 port
- No 4K output over HDMI (HDMI 1.4, 1080p60 ceiling)
- No Wi-Fi 6E and no Wi-Fi 7 — standard Wi-Fi 6 only
- No numeric keypad and no touchscreen
- No optical drive and no second storage slot
- No privacy shutter on plastic-chassis units
Battery, build & more
Battery & charging
Three integrated battery options were built: 3-cell 41 Whr, 4-cell 54 Whr, and 4-cell 64 Whr. Ships with a 65W barrel AC adapter; ExpressCharge reaches roughly 80% in about an hour. The USB-C port also accepts Power Delivery charging. Include the original 65W Dell charger in your shipment — missing chargers reduce the offer.
Keyboard & touchpad
Full-size keyboard without a numeric keypad; backlighting was an optional extra, so plenty of units have no backlight at all. Multi-touch precision touchpad with integrated scrolling. A fingerprint reader built into the power button (Windows Hello) was also optional — press the power button and look for a small square inset if you are unsure.
Cooling & thermals
Single system fan with Adaptive Thermals, which senses whether the laptop is resting on a hard surface and adjusts power and fan behaviour accordingly. Both chassis variants passed MIL-STD-810H durability testing.
Weight
Plastic: from 3.40 lb (1.54 kg).
Aluminum: from 3.44 lb (1.56 kg).
Actual weight shifts with the battery and storage fitted.
Dimensions
Plastic: 314 × 226.15 × 16.9–19.9 mm (12.36" × 8.90" × 0.67"–0.78").
Aluminum: 314 × 226.15 × ~15.9–18.9 mm (12.36" × 8.90" × 0.62"–0.74").
Operating system & software
Shipped with Windows 11 Home, Windows 11 Pro, or Ubuntu 24.04.2. Factory software included Dell Optimizer, SupportAssist, Dell Pair, Dolby Atmos Core, and McAfee. A Linux-converted or wiped machine is still fully quotable.
Frequently asked questions
You do not need to know anything about computers to do this. Pick whichever method is easier for you:
Method 1 — the bottom of the laptop. Close the lid, flip it over, and read the small printed text on the bottom cover. You want a line that says "Dell 14" and a 7-character Service Tag made of letters and numbers. Write the Service Tag down — it is the fastest way for us to confirm your exact build.
Method 2 — on the screen. Turn the laptop on, press the Windows key on your keyboard, type msinfo32, and press Enter. A window opens. Look for the row called System Model. It should say Dell 14 DC14250. The same window also lists your processor and installed memory, which are the next two things we will ask about.
One important warning about the regulatory label. The compliance text on the bottom of this laptop reads Regulatory Model P185G and Regulatory Type P185G001. That code alone will not confirm you are on the right page, because Dell also used P185G on the older Inspiron 14 5440. Always confirm using the words "Dell 14" or the DC14250 number, not the P185G code by itself.
Still stuck? Our Dell model-number guide, the Find Your Gadget's Model hub, and the processor-type guide walk through each step with screenshots. You can also send us the details through Custom Quote and we will identify it for you.
This is the single most common mix-up on this model, and quoting the wrong one means a re-grade and a delay. Work down this list:
Inspiron 14 (5440) — the biggest trap. Dell's own product brief states the Dell 14 (DC14250) was formerly known as the Inspiron 14 (5440), and both machines carry the identical P185G / P185G001 regulatory code. They look nearly the same and the bottom label will not separate them. If your laptop says Inspiron anywhere — on the lid, on the bottom cover, or in msinfo32 — it belongs on our Dell Inspiron page instead, not here.
Dell 14 DC14255. Same size, same year, same look, but built on AMD Ryzen instead of Intel. If msinfo32 shows an AMD processor, you have a DC14255.
Dell 14 Plus (DB14250 / DB14255) and Dell 14 Premium (DA14250). These are higher tiers with Intel Core Ultra processors, soldered LPDDR5X memory, and Copilot+ branding. If you see "Plus" or "Premium" on the machine, or a Core Ultra chip, you are on the wrong listing.
Dell Pro 14 (PB14250 / PV14250). Dell's commercial line, sold to businesses. The word "Pro" appears in the model name.
Dell 15 (DC15250) and Dell 16 (DC16250 / DC16251 / DC16255 / DC16256). Same 2025 naming family, larger screens. Measure the screen corner-to-corner if you are unsure — this page is 14 inches only.

Yes. We buy these in every condition, from sealed-box to badly knocked about. Cracked or flickering screens, swollen or dead batteries, broken hinges, dents in the lid, missing keycaps, a failed fan, a laptop that will not power on at all — all of it still has value. Just describe it honestly in the condition selector above and the offer you see is the offer we honour.
Upgrades work in your favour on this model. Because the DC14250 uses removable DDR5 SO-DIMM memory and a replaceable M.2 2230 SSD, plenty of owners have added RAM or a bigger drive. Quote what is installed right now, not what the laptop shipped with — a machine upgraded from 8GB to 32GB is worth more than its original spec.
One safety note: if the bottom cover is visibly bulging or the touchpad has been pushed upward, that is a swollen battery. Stop using and stop charging the laptop, and mention it when you quote so we can ship it safely. Our shipping instructions cover packing, and How It Works explains the whole process end to end.
On this particular model, five things move the number more than anything else:
- The aluminum chassis over the plastic one. Metal units also carry the better 1080p webcam, dual microphones, and the privacy shutter — three upgrades bundled into one build.
- The 2.5K (2560 × 1600) display instead of the FHD+ panel.
- Intel Core 7 150U at the top of the stack, then Core 5, with the Core 3 100U at the bottom.
- 32GB of memory in two sticks rather than 8GB in one, and a 1TB drive rather than 512GB.
- The optional NVIDIA MX570A graphics. Dell retired this option in December 2025, so relatively few units have it — check Device Manager under "Display adapters" before you assume yours is integrated-only.
Including the original 65W barrel charger also protects your offer.
Many people don't realize a working everyday laptop like this is worth real cash rather than a drawer. Gadget Salvation has been a dedicated consumer-electronics trade-in service since 2008 — you answer a few questions, get an instant quote with no haggling and no listing to write, ship it to us with a free prepaid, insured UPS label, and get paid in actual cash. That last part matters: manufacturer trade-in programmes typically hand back store credit or a gift card that locks you into buying from them again, while we send money you can spend anywhere. If you are weighing the options, Dell Trade In vs. Buyback and Where Can I Sell My Dell Laptop for Cash? lay out the trade-offs against eBay, Swappa, and local marketplaces. For squeezing out the maximum, read The Smart Seller's Guide to Getting the Most Cash for Your Used Dell Laptop.
Before you box it up: copy anything you want to keep to an external drive or cloud storage, then sign out of your Microsoft account and any Dell or McAfee services. If you would like to reset it yourself, open Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC and choose Remove everything. If this laptop was issued by an employer or school, ask their IT team to release it from management first, otherwise it can stay locked after a reset.
Do not open the laptop or pull the SSD out yourself. The drive is a small M.2 2230 card held by a single screw and it is easy to damage. Leave it in — every incoming machine goes through our certified sanitisation process regardless of whether you reset it. Full detail lives on our data erasure protocols page.
Payment: once your laptop reaches us and passes functional testing, payment is approved within about two business days. Choose PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or CashApp for an electronic transfer, or a physical check mailed to your address. Your shipping label is free and fully insured from the moment you drop the box off.
