The Dell G16 (Model 7620) — sold at retail simply as the Dell G16 7620 Gaming Laptop and carrying the regulatory model code P106F (regulatory type P106F001) — launched in mid-2022 and remained on shelves through 2023, when the 13th-gen Dell G16 7630 replaced it. It was Dell's first 16-inch G-series machine, moving the mainstream gaming line off the old 15.6-inch 16:9 format and onto a taller 16-inch 16:10 QHD+ panel. Every single 7620 unit shipped with the same 2560 × 1600, 165Hz display, so unlike most gaming laptops, your processor, graphics chip, memory, and storage are the only variables that move your resale price. Many sellers don't realize a three-to-four-year-old gaming laptop still carries real cash value — trade in your Dell G16 with us and use the selector above to lock in an instant, no-obligation cash offer for your exact configuration.
Core hardware configurations
Processor (CPU)
- 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12650H — 10 cores (6P + 4E), 16 threads, up to 4.7 GHz, 24MB cache
- 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H — 14 cores (6P + 8E), 20 threads, up to 4.7 GHz, 24MB cache
- 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900H — 14 cores (6P + 8E), 20 threads, up to 5.0 GHz, 24MB cache
- All three chips are 12th-gen "Alder Lake-H." If your laptop reports an 11th-gen or 13th-gen CPU, you do not have a 7620 — see the identification FAQ below.
Graphics (GPU)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti — 4GB GDDR6 (entry tier, ~90W)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 — 6GB GDDR6 (~130W)
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 — 8GB GDDR6
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti — 8GB GDDR6 (top tier)
- All discrete-only — there is no integrated-graphics-only version of this machine
- NVIDIA Advanced Optimus with hardware MUX switching and G-SYNC support
- The GPU is the single biggest price mover on this model. RTX 30-series only — the 7620 was never offered with an RTX 40-series card.
Memory (RAM)
- DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM memory (not DDR4 — a generational change from the older G15/G7 models)
- Factory options: 8GB (1 × 8GB, single-channel), 16GB (2 × 8GB, dual-channel), 32GB (2 × 16GB, dual-channel)
- Two SO-DIMM slots, both user-accessible. RAM is not soldered — it can be removed and upgraded, with aftermarket capacities up to 64GB commonly reported
- If you upgraded the RAM yourself, quote the capacity that is currently installed, not what it shipped with — you get credit for the upgrade.
Storage
- M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe Gen4 x4 SSD
- Factory capacities: 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB
- Two M.2 2280 slots — a second drive can be added by the owner
- No 2.5-inch SATA drive bay and no mechanical hard drive option. Storage is SSD only.
Display & audio
Display
One panel across the entire lineup — no display options to select. 16.0-inch, QHD+ (2560 × 1600), 16:10 aspect ratio, 165Hz refresh rate, IPS wide-viewing-angle, anti-glare, 300 nits, 100% sRGB, NVIDIA G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus, hardware low blue light. This display is non-touch — the 7620 was never offered with a touchscreen, and there was no FHD, 4K, OLED, or 240Hz+ option.
Audio
Stereo speakers driven by a Realtek ALC3254 codec, rated at 2 × 2.5W, paired with dual-array digital microphones. No subwoofer and no premium branded audio system (no Bang & Olufsen, no Nahimic hardware tuning) — this is a straightforward two-speaker setup, and reviewers consistently flagged it as the weakest part of the machine.
Ports & connectivity
Heavy cabling routes out of the thick rear thermal shelf, keeping the desk clean. Port availability is not identical across every configuration — read the note on Thunderbolt carefully before you quote.
- 1× Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) with DisplayPort — present only on units shipped with RTX 3060, RTX 3070, or RTX 3070 Ti graphics. RTX 3050 Ti units do not have Thunderbolt 4. If you are unsure which you have, check the GPU in Device Manager.
- 1× HDMI 2.1 output
- 1× RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet
- 1× DC-in power adapter connector
- 3× USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
- 1× 3.5mm headset (headphone/microphone combo) jack
- Absent by design: there is no SD or microSD card reader, no Mini DisplayPort, and no fingerprint reader on this model. The USB-C port does not charge the laptop — the barrel DC-in adapter is required.
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) Intel AX201 or Killer 1650i Bluetooth 5.2 No Wi-Fi 6E
Battery, build & more
Battery & charging
Two battery sizes were shipped depending on graphics tier: a 3-cell 56 Wh pack on lower-tier builds, and a 6-cell 86 Wh pack on higher-GPU builds, both with Dell ExpressCharge. Barrel-plug adapters range from 180W up to 240W depending on the CPU/GPU pairing. If you still have the original charger, include it — a matching Dell brick adds to your offer.
Camera & mic
720p HD webcam at the top of the display with dual-array digital microphones. There is no 1080p webcam, no IR camera, and therefore no Windows Hello facial recognition on the 7620. There is also no physical privacy shutter.
Keyboard
Full-size backlit keyboard with a dedicated numeric keypad and a "G"-key shortcut to Alienware Command Center. Two keyboard variants exist: a standard membrane keyboard with single-zone orange backlighting, and an optional Cherry MX low-profile mechanical keyboard with per-key RGB (a paid upgrade offered on some RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti builds). The mechanical-keyboard version is rarer and worth calling out when you quote.
Cooling & thermals
Dual-fan, four-vent cooling with a deep rear exhaust shelf and Alienware "G-Mode" performance boost. The 7620 is a genuinely thick chassis — that bulk is what lets it sustain a 130W RTX 3060 without throttling. Loud fans under load are normal and do not reduce your offer. Thermal shutdowns or hardware throttling do.
Weight
Starting weight ≈ 2.44 kg (5.38 lb); maximum weight ≈ 2.70 kg (5.95 lb), depending on the 3-cell or 6-cell battery.
Dimensions & color
357.26 × 272.11 mm, height 20.60 mm (front) to 26.90 mm (peak) — 14.06" × 10.71" × 0.81"–1.06". Single finish: Obsidian Black / dark gray aluminum-and-polymer chassis with a red "G" logo on the palm rest.
Frequently asked questions
Step 1 — Flip it over. Close the lid, turn the laptop upside down, and look at the small printed label on the bottom cover. You are looking for either the words "G16 7620" or the regulatory code "Reg. Model: P106F" (sometimes shown as P106F001). Nearby you will also see a short 7-character Service Tag — write that down; it is your laptop's unique ID.
Step 2 — Check inside Windows. Press the Windows key, type msinfo32, and press Enter. In the window that opens, find the row labeled "System Model." It should read something close to Dell G16 7620. The "Processor" row will show your exact CPU (i7-12650H, i7-12700H, or i9-12900H).
Step 3 — Look at the screen and the shape. A real 7620 has a 16-inch, taller-than-normal (16:10) screen and a noticeably thick body with a big vented shelf sticking out the back behind the hinge. If your Dell has a 15.6-inch widescreen or is thin and slim, it is a different model.
Still unsure? Our step-by-step guide to finding your Dell laptop's model number walks you through it with pictures, and our processor lookup guide shows you how to confirm which CPU generation you have.
1. Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7620 — the biggest trap. It has the exact same 7620 number, but it's not the same laptop. The Inspiron 16 Plus is a slim silver/platinum creator notebook with no rear thermal shelf, no red "G" logo, and no gaming branding. The G16 is thick and black, with a large vented shelf behind the hinge. If your laptop is thin and light, you have the Inspiron, not the G16. Quote it under Dell Inspiron instead.
2. Dell G16 7630 (2023). This is the next-year model, and it looks nearly identical from the outside. The processor is the giveaway. The 7620 always has a 12th-generation Intel CPU (i7-12650H / i7-12700H / i9-12900H) and an RTX 30-series GPU. The 7630 has a 13th-generation CPU (i7-13650HX, i9-13900HX) and an RTX 40-series GPU. If your CPU number starts with 13 or your graphics card says RTX 4050/4060/4070, you have the 7630.
3. Dell G15 (5520 / 5525 / 5530). These are the 15.6-inch siblings. Easy check: a G15 screen measures 15.6 inches with a standard 16:9 widescreen shape; the G16 is 16 inches and visibly taller (16:10). Quote a G15 on our Dell G15 page.
4. Alienware m16 / x16. These share the 16-inch size and Dell's gaming software, but they feature the Alienware alien-head logo rather than a red "G." Quote them on our Alienware page.
The short version: if the bottom label says P106F and Windows reports a 12th-gen Intel CPU with an RTX 30-series GPU, you have the G16 7620.
Upgrades help you, not hurt you. Because the 7620's RAM sits in two removable SO-DIMM slots and it has two M.2 SSD slots, plenty of owners have added memory or a second drive. Report what is actually inside the machine right now — if you upgraded to 32GB or 64GB of RAM or added a 2TB SSD, you get paid for it.
One clarification, since G16 owners ask constantly: loud fans are not a defect on this laptop. Reviewers noted the 7620 runs its fans hard under load by design, and that alone will not lower your offer. Only actual thermal shutdowns or performance throttling count as a functional issue.
For the 7620 specifically, here is what moves the number, in order:
- The GPU — by a wide margin. An RTX 3070 Ti or RTX 3070 build pays dramatically more than an RTX 3060, which in turn pays well above the entry-level RTX 3050 Ti. This one variable can shift your offer by hundreds of dollars.
- The CPU tier. An i9-12900H pays more than an i7-12700H, which pays more than the 10-core i7-12650H.
- RAM and storage. 32GB (or an aftermarket 64GB) beats 16GB, which beats the single-channel 8GB base. A 1TB or 2TB SSD beats a 512 GB SSD.
- The mechanical keyboard. If yours has the optional Cherry MX low-profile per-key RGB keyboard rather than the standard single-zone orange backlight, say so — it was a paid upgrade and it is uncommon.
- Cosmetic condition and the original 180W–240W charger. A clean lid and a matching Dell brick both add to the final figure.
You do not need to remove the SSD. Leave the M.2 drives installed — our intake team performs certified multi-pass data sanitization on every drive that comes through the door. The full process is documented on our data erasure protocols page.
Getting paid: once your G16 arrives and our team finishes functional testing, payment is approved within about two business days. Choose from PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App for a fast electronic transfer, or a mailed paper check if you prefer. The prepaid, insured shipping label is free — see our shipping instructions for how to safely pack a thick 16-inch gaming laptop.
Note for corporate or school-issued machines: if your G16 was managed by an employer or institution, ask their IT department to release it from Microsoft Intune / Windows Autopilot before you ship it. A device still enrolled in a management profile cannot be fully reset by the new owner, and we cannot complete the purchase until it is released.
