The Dell XPS 16 9640, released in early 2024, is Dell's flagship 16-inch premium laptop and the largest member of its redesigned XPS family — effectively the successor to the older XPS 15 and XPS 17. Built around Intel's Meteor Lake Core Ultra processors (Core Ultra Series 1) with a dedicated NPU for Copilot+ AI features, it pairs an all-aluminum CNC chassis in Platinum Silver or Graphite with a striking edge-to-edge “zero-lattice” keyboard, a capacitive touch function row, and a seamless haptic touchpad. Because the XPS 16 9640 was sold in a wide range of processor, graphics, memory, storage, and display combinations — including an optional 4K OLED touchscreen — your exact configuration decides its final resale price. If you're looking to sell your XPS 16, our Dell XPS trade-in page gives you a real cash offer — just pick your components using the tool above to see an instant quote for your exact device.
Core hardware configurations

- Intel Core Ultra 9 185H — 16 cores, 22 threads, up to 5.1 GHz
- All are Meteor Lake (Core Ultra Series 1) chips with a built-in Intel AI Boost NPU for Copilot+ features

Make sure you have the XPS 16 9640 (and not another XPS size)
Dell's redesigned XPS laptops all share the same look, so a quick 30-second check keeps you from picking the wrong product. The two cards below cover the model you're on this page for and the ones it's most often confused with.
This model — XPS 16 9640
The service label reads “XPS 16 9640” and the regulatory model is P123F. It has a 16.3-inch screen and is the only redesigned XPS offered with NVIDIA RTX graphics. If you see “9640” and a 16-inch display, you're in the right place.
Not this one — the smaller siblings & the rename
The XPS 13 9340 (13.4-inch) and XPS 14 9440 (14.5-inch) look nearly identical but are smaller. The older XPS 15 9530 and XPS 17 9730 are the previous generation this model replaced. And in 2025 Dell retired the XPS name, so a newer “Dell 16 Plus” or “Dell 16 Premium” is a different, later machine. Pick the matching model when you request a quote so your offer is accurate.
Where to find it: the model number and regulatory code are printed on the label on the bottom cover of the laptop. You can also type “System Information” into the Windows Start menu and read the System Model line, or check your Dell Service Tag on the same bottom label. Our guide to finding your Dell laptop model number walks through it step by step with pictures.
Display & audio
Display
A 16.3-inch InfinityEdge panel offered in two tiers. Most units ship with an FHD+ (1920 × 1200) non-touch IPS panel at up to 240Hz, 500 nits, 100% sRGB. Premium units carry a stunning 4K+ (3840 × 2400) OLED touchscreen at 400 nits with 100% DCI-P3 color and Dolby Vision — the OLED configuration typically fetches a higher trade-in value, so it's worth noting which one you have.
Audio
Quad-speaker system (dual woofers plus dual tweeters) tuned for a rich sound stage, with a 3.5mm combo jack featuring Waves Nx 3D audio with head tracking and dual-array microphones.
Ports & connectivity
A minimalist, all-USB-C port layout. Importantly, the XPS 16 has no built-in USB-A port and no built-in HDMI port — Dell includes a small USB-C-to-USB-A and USB-C-to-HDMI adapter in the box. The laptop charges over USB-C using the included adapter (up to 130 W).
- 2× Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C, 40 Gbps) (with DisplayPort and Power Delivery; used for charging)
- 1× USB-C (Thunderbolt 4 on Arc / RTX 4050 / RTX 4060 units; USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 on RTX 4070 units)
- 1× microSD card reader
- 1× 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack
Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 Bluetooth 5.4
