The HP OmniBook 3 is the entry rung of HP's revived OmniBook ladder — the line that formally replaced the retired HP Pavilion family — and it sits below the OmniBook 5, OmniBook 7, OmniBook X, and OmniBook Ultra tiers. It arrived in March 2025 as a two-size lineup (14-inch and 15.6-inch) built exclusively on AMD Ryzen AI silicon, then was rebuilt almost from scratch at CES 2026 into a much wider 14-inch, 16-inch, and 17.3-inch range spanning three completely different processor architectures: AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm Snapdragon X. That means two laptops can both say "HP OmniBook 3" on the box and share almost nothing internally — different screen shapes, different memory that may or may not be upgradable, and in some cases a totally different CPU instruction set. Because of that, your exact model number (the short code like 15-fn0087nr or 16-bz0000nr) is what determines your cash offer, not the name on the lid. Use the selector above to pick your configuration and see an instant, firm cash quote — and if you're not sure which OmniBook 3 you have, the identification steps below take about sixty seconds.
How to identify your exact HP OmniBook 3
You do not need to be technical to do this. Pick whichever of these three methods is easiest for you — any one of them gives us everything we need to price your laptop.
Method 1 — Flip it over (easiest)
Close the laptop and turn it upside down. Printed or etched on the bottom cover you'll find a small block of text. Look for a line starting with "Product:" or "Model:" — it will read something like 15-fn0087nr, 14-hz0099nr, or 17-dm0761nr. That short code is your model number. Nearby you'll also see a Serial Number and a Product Number (a code such as BD5Q4UA#ABA); either of those works too if the model line is worn off.
Method 2 — Ask Windows
Turn the laptop on. Hold the Windows key and press R, type msinfo32 into the little box, and press Enter. A "System Information" window opens. Read the rows labeled System Model, Processor, and Installed Physical Memory (RAM). Write those three down and you have everything the quote form asks for. If you're unsure how to read the processor line, our guide to finding your processor type walks through it.
Method 3 — HP's own app
Open the HP Support Assistant app that ships preinstalled on every OmniBook (search for it in the Start menu). The home screen lists your model name, model number, serial number, and warranty status all in one place. For a brand-specific walkthrough with pictures, see our HP model number guide or the general laptop model number guide.
What the code actually tells you
HP model numbers follow a pattern: screen size, then a two-letter chassis code, then the configuration digits. So 16-bz0000nr is a 16-inch laptop on the "bz" chassis. The two letters are the important part — they identify the exact generation and platform, which is why 16-bz (Snapdragon) and 16-by (AMD Ryzen 3/5) are priced very differently despite both being 16-inch OmniBook 3 machines.

Core hardware configurations
HP splits the OmniBook 3 into three marketing tiers that are easy to mix up. "Next Gen AI PC" models carry a 40+ TOPS NPU and qualify for Microsoft's Copilot+ badge. "AI PC" models have an NPU rated roughly 12–16 TOPS and do not qualify for Copilot+. Models sold as just "Laptop PC" have no AI acceleration at all. All three tiers exist under the OmniBook 3 name, and the tier materially affects resale value.
Processor (CPU) — 2025 generation
- AMD Ryzen AI 5 330 — Zen 5, Radeon 820M graphics
- AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 — 6 cores / 12 threads, Zen 5 "Krackan Point", up to 4.8 GHz
- AMD Ryzen AI 5 H 340 — higher-wattage H-class variant
- AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 — 8 cores / 16 threads, Zen 5, top 2025 tier
- AMD Ryzen AI 7H 350 — higher-wattage H-class variant
- 2025 models are AMD-only. There was no Intel or Snapdragon OmniBook 3 in the first generation.
Processor (CPU) — 2026 generation
- Qualcomm Snapdragon X X1-26-100 — 8 cores, up to 2.97 GHz, Hexagon NPU rated 45 TOPS (14-hz and 16-bz only)
- AMD Ryzen AI 5 430 / Ryzen AI 7 — Copilot+ class
- AMD Ryzen 3 30 / Ryzen 5 40 — entry class, no Copilot+
- AMD Ryzen 7 (7000-series) — "AI PC" tier, NPU present but below Copilot+ threshold
- Intel Core 7 150U / Core i7-1355U and Intel N-series — entry and mid tiers
- Several 2026 entry chips are rebadges of older Zen 2 / Zen 3+ and Raptor Lake-U silicon under new names. This does not affect your eligibility, but it does affect value — the selector above handles it automatically.
Graphics (GPU)
- AMD Radeon 860M — top integrated tier, 2025 Ryzen AI 7 and 2026 Ryzen AI 7 models
- AMD Radeon 840M — mid tier, Ryzen AI 5 340 / Ryzen AI 5 430
- AMD Radeon 820M — entry Ryzen AI 5 330
- AMD Radeon 610M — entry Ryzen 3 30 / Ryzen 5 40 (16-by, 17-dp)
- Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 — Snapdragon X models
- Intel integrated graphics — Intel-based configurations
- No OmniBook 3 has ever shipped with a dedicated NVIDIA or AMD discrete GPU. Every configuration is integrated graphics only.
Memory (RAM) — read this carefully
- 15.6-inch 2025 (15-fn): DDR5-5600 in physical SO-DIMM slots — user-upgradable, commonly shipped 8/16/32GB
- 14-inch 2025 (14-ha): LPDDR5X soldered to the board in 16GB or 24GB — not upgradable at all
- Snapdragon X 2026 (14-hz, 16-bz): LPDDR5X-8448 onboard in 16GB or 32GB — soldered, permanently fixed
- 2026 entry tiers: start as low as 8GB; 24GB configurations exist as a result of the memory market squeeze
- Soldered memory means the capacity your laptop shipped with is the capacity it will always have. A soldered 32GB unit is worth meaningfully more than a soldered 8GB one for exactly this reason.
Storage
- M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe solid state drive across every generation
- Standard shipping capacities: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB
- 15.6-inch 2025 chassis accepts drives well beyond factory capacity if a previous owner upgraded it
- The SSD is a removable M.2 card on all models — memory may be soldered, but storage never is
Operating system
- Windows 11 Home on the overwhelming majority of retail units
- Windows 11 Pro available on select 15.6-inch 2025 and 16-inch 2026 configurations
- Snapdragon X models run the ARM build of Windows 11 — visually identical, but a different architecture underneath
Display & audio
Display — 2025 generation (14" and 15.6")
Both first-generation sizes use a 16:9 FHD (1920 × 1080) IPS panel with an anti-glare finish, flicker-free backlighting, and up to 300 nits of brightness. Colour coverage is modest at roughly 62.5% sRGB on the common configurations. A touch version was offered on select 15.6-inch units; the rest are non-touch. Entry 15.6-inch builds shipped with a lower-grade TN panel rather than IPS.
Display — 2026 generation (14" and 16")
The 2026 refresh moved the 14-inch and 16-inch models to a taller 16:10 aspect ratio at 2K (1920 × 1200), which gives noticeably more vertical room for documents and web pages. Both IPS and 2K OLED panels were offered, in touch and non-touch flavours, at 60Hz and around 300 nits. The OLED option delivers far better contrast and black levels but is not brighter — glare in bright rooms is a known trade-off.
Display — 2026 generation (17.3")
The 17.3-inch model prioritises raw size over panel quality and stays on 16:9. Two resolutions were sold: FHD (1920 × 1080) and, on entry builds, a distinctly low HD+ (1600 × 900). Brightness tops out around 300 nits with roughly 80% sRGB coverage. No OLED option was ever offered at 17.3 inches.
Audio
A straightforward dual-speaker stereo arrangement across the entire family. There is no Bang & Olufsen or Poly Studio tuning on the OmniBook 3 — those are reserved for the OmniBook 5, 7, X, and Ultra tiers. Output is modest in volume and light on bass; a 3.5mm combo jack is present on every model for headphones.
Ports & connectivity
Port layout is one of the clearest ways to tell the two generations apart without opening anything — count your USB-C ports and check the HDMI version sticker if one is present.
- 1× USB-C 10Gbps (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge)
- 2× USB-A 5Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 1)
- 1× HDMI 1.4b (older standard — caps out at 4K/30Hz)
- 1× 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack
- 1× barrel-style AC power input
- 2× USB-C 10Gbps (Power Delivery 3.0, DisplayPort — charges over either port)
- 2× USB-A 5Gbps
- 1× HDMI 2.1 (upgraded from 1.4b — supports 4K at higher refresh rates)
- 1× 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack
What the OmniBook 3 does not have, on any model, in any generation: no Thunderbolt 4, no Thunderbolt 5, and no USB4 — every USB-C port is capped at 10Gbps. No Ethernet / RJ-45 jack. No SD or microSD card reader. No Wi-Fi 7. No optical drive. On Snapdragon models specifically, there is no fingerprint reader — those units use Windows Hello facial recognition instead. A fingerprint reader was an optional extra on 2025 AMD models only, so its presence or absence is itself a useful identification clue.
Wi-Fi 6 (2025 models) Wi-Fi 6E (2026 Snapdragon) Bluetooth 5.4 (2025) Bluetooth 5.3 (2026 Snapdragon) No Thunderbolt No Ethernet No card reader
Battery, build & more
Battery & charging
Capacity differs sharply by generation. The 2025 models carry a 3-cell 41 Wh battery charged by a 65W adapter over either the barrel jack or USB-C. The 2026 16-inch Snapdragon models jump to 68 Wh and ship with a compact 65W USB-C GaN adapter that reaches 50% charge in about 45 minutes. Real-world runtime on the Snapdragon 16-inch has been measured at over 22 hours in video-loop testing — battery life is the single strongest attribute of that configuration.
Camera & microphone
HP True Vision cameras throughout, but the resolution varies: 2025 models shipped with either a 720p HD or 1080p FHD sensor depending on configuration, while 2026 models standardise on 1080p with HDR. The 2026 Snapdragon units add an IR camera for Windows Hello face unlock. A physical privacy shutter and a dual-array microphone with noise reduction are present across the range; some models add a dedicated microphone mute key with an LED indicator.
Keyboard & touchpad
Full-size backlit chiclet keyboard with two brightness levels. The 15.6-inch, 16-inch, and 17.3-inch models include a dedicated numeric keypad; the 14-inch models do not — that alone tells you which size class you're holding. Keycaps are manufactured using recycled plastic as part of HP's sustainability programme. Touchpads are plastic, not glass, and measure roughly 5.25" × 3.25" on the 16-inch chassis.
Chassis & colours
Plastic construction with a light metallic sheen and rounded edges — this is the value tier, so there is no aluminium lid or deck as found on the OmniBook 5 and above. Sold across roughly five finishes depending on generation and region: Glacier Silver, Mica Silver, Nouvelle Silver, Starlit Blue, Warm Gold, and Iron Gray. Colour does not affect your quote.
Weight
- 14-inch (2025): ≈ 1.47 kg (3.24 lb)
- 15.6-inch (2025): ≈ 1.70 kg (3.70 lb)
- 16-inch (2026): ≈ 1.66 kg (3.65 lb)
- 17.3-inch (2026): heaviest of the range — a desk-bound machine rather than a commuter
Dimensions
- 14-inch (2025): 323.7 × 215 × 17.9 mm (12.74" × 8.46" × 0.70")
- 15.6-inch (2025): 359.9 × 236 × 18.6 mm (14.17" × 9.29" × 0.73")
- 16-inch (2026): 358.6 × 251.7 × 20.8 mm (14.12" × 9.91" × 0.82")
- HP's marketing materials quote thinner figures than independent measurement finds on the 16-inch — measure at the thickest point if you're comparing.
Frequently asked questions
15-fn0087nr, 14-hz0099nr, 16-bz0000nr, or 17-dm0761nr. That code is all we need. If the label has rubbed off, turn the laptop on, hold the Windows key and press R, type msinfo32, and press Enter — the "System Model" row shows the same code, and the rows just below it show your processor and RAM. A third option is opening the preinstalled HP Support Assistant app, which displays the model and serial number on its home screen. Full walkthroughs live in our HP model number guide and our general find your gadget's model resource.14-ha, 14-hz, 14-hu, 14-hy, 15-fn, 16-bz, 16-bv, 16-by, 17-dm, 17-dn, and 17-dp. The OmniBook 5 uses entirely different codes including 16-fb, 16-af, and 16-ag — note that 16-fb0299nr is an OmniBook 5, not an OmniBook 3, despite looking almost identical to 16-bz codes at a glance. Three physical tells also help. First, build material: the OmniBook 3 is plastic, while the OmniBook 5 and above use aluminium — tap the lid, and if it feels and sounds like metal you have a higher tier. Second, speaker branding: any Bang & Olufsen or Poly logo means it is not an OmniBook 3. Third, ports: if your USB-C port supports Thunderbolt (look for a small lightning-bolt icon beside it), it is not an OmniBook 3, because no OmniBook 3 ever shipped with Thunderbolt.
Two further look-alikes worth ruling out: the older HP Pavilion line that the OmniBook replaced, and plain "HP Laptop 15" / "HP Laptop 17" models on
fd and 17-cp chassis codes, which are a separate budget family sold alongside the OmniBook 3. Choosing the wrong page means a revised offer after inspection, so it's worth thirty seconds to check.A specific note on this model: the 16-inch chassis has a documented tendency toward a loose display hinge, so if your lid flops open when tilted, that's a known trait rather than something you caused.
Upgrades are welcome and often increase your offer. If you added a larger SSD, that counts — select your current capacity, not the factory one. RAM is more nuanced: on the 15.6-inch 15-fn models the memory sits in real SO-DIMM slots and can be upgraded, so a previous owner may have raised it. On the 14-inch 2025 models and all Snapdragon models the RAM is soldered and cannot have changed. If you're unsure what's installed,
msinfo32 reports the true current figure. Bear in mind that battery health is assessed on arrival — you can check yours in advance by opening Command Prompt and running powercfg /batteryreport.The factors that move the number most, in rough order of impact:
- Processor tier. A Copilot+ "Next Gen AI PC" — Ryzen AI 7 350, Ryzen AI 5 430, or Snapdragon X X1-26-100 — is worth considerably more than an entry Ryzen 3 30 or Intel N-series unit.
- RAM, especially when soldered. Because Snapdragon and 14-inch 2025 memory can never be upgraded, a 32GB unit commands a real premium over an 8GB one. This is amplified by the current surge in memory pricing.
- Storage capacity. 1TB configurations outpace 512GB, which outpace 256GB.
- Display type. A 2K OLED panel, or a 2K 16:10 IPS touchscreen, is worth more than a base FHD panel — and considerably more than the HD+ 1600 × 900 screen on entry 17.3-inch units.
- Generation. The 2026 refresh generally outvalues the 2025 models, helped by the larger 68 Wh battery, HDMI 2.1, and dual USB-C charging.
- Battery health and cosmetic condition, which set the final grade.
