The HP OmniBook 7 is the professional-grade rung of HP's OmniBook ladder — the tier that effectively replaced the HP Envy line, sitting above the OmniBook 3 and OmniBook 5 and below the OmniBook X and OmniBook Ultra. It launched on 18 March 2025 and, unlike the AMD-driven OmniBook 3, it is built almost entirely on Intel silicon. What separates it from the cheaper OmniBooks is genuine hardware, not marketing: an aluminium-and-magnesium chassis, 11 MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability tests, Thunderbolt 4, Poly-tuned audio and webcams, and — on some builds — a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050. It's sold in 14-inch, 16-inch, and 17.3-inch clamshell sizes across two processor generations: 2025 models on Intel's Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake chips, and a 2026 refresh on Intel Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake" that added Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and a 240Hz display option. Because a base Core 5 build and an RTX 4050 build wear the same badge, your exact model number — the short code like 16-ay0087nr or 17-dc0037nr — is what sets your cash offer. Use the selector above for an instant firm quote, and if you're unsure which OmniBook 7 you own, the steps below take about a minute.

How to identify your exact HP OmniBook 7

No technical knowledge needed. Any one of these three methods gives us everything required to price your laptop.

Method 1 — Flip it over (easiest)

Close the lid and turn the laptop upside down. On the bottom cover you'll find a small block of printed or etched text. Look for the line beginning "Product:" or "Model:" — it reads something like 14-fr0013TU, 16-ay0087nr, 16-az0097nr, or 17-dc0037nr. That short code is your model number. A Serial Number and a Product Number (a code such as B4WJ4AV) sit nearby and work just as well if the model line has worn away.

Method 2 — Ask Windows

Switch the laptop on. Hold the Windows key and press R, type msinfo32 into the small box, and press Enter. A "System Information" window opens. Note the System Model, Processor, and Installed Physical Memory (RAM) rows — that's everything the quote form asks for. Unsure how to read the processor line? Our processor type guide explains it plainly.

Method 3 — HP's own app

Open HP Support Assistant, preinstalled on every OmniBook (search for it in the Start menu). Its home screen shows your model name, model number, serial number, and warranty status together. For a picture-led walkthrough see our HP model number guide or the general laptop model number guide.

Reading the code

HP codes run screen size → two-letter chassis code → configuration digits. So 16-ay0087nr is a 16-inch machine on the "ay" chassis. Those two letters are what matter: 16-ay (AI PC, Intel Core Ultra), 16-az (plain Laptop PC, non-Ultra Core), and 16-bh (2026 Panther Lake) are all 16-inch OmniBook 7s, but they price very differently.

Every OmniBook 7 clamshell model number we buy

Find your code below. If yours isn't listed it's very likely still eligible — send it through our custom quote form and we'll price it by hand.

14-inch models

  • 14-fr series (2025, "AI PC", Intel Arrow Lake) — 14-fr0000, 14-fr0000na, 14-fr0013TU, 14-fr0031TU, 14-fr0034TU
  • 14-fs series (later 14-inch chassis revision)

The 14-inch is the only OmniBook 7 clamshell without a numeric keypad.

16-inch models

  • 16-ay series (2025, "AI PC", Core Ultra, optional RTX 4050) — 16-ay0000, 16-ay0008TU, 16-ay0087nr
  • 16-az series (2025, plain "Laptop PC", Intel Core 5/7/9) — 16-az0000, 16-az0097nr
  • 16-bh series (2026, Intel Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake")

17.3-inch models

  • 17-dc series ("Next Gen AI PC", Copilot+, touch display) — 17-dc0000, 17-dc0037nr

Every 17.3-inch OmniBook 7 ships with a touchscreen — a non-touch 17.3-inch model does not exist in this line.

Not covered on this page

  • 16-au series — the OmniBook 7 Flip 16, a 360° convertible 2-in-1. Different chassis, different quote page.
  • 13-bg series — the OmniBook 7 Aero 13, a 13.3-inch AMD Ryzen AI model sold mainly in Asia-Pacific markets.

Both are still bought — use the custom quote form so they're graded on the right spec sheet.

Core hardware configurations

HP uses three tier names on this line and they correspond to genuinely different chips. "Next Gen AI PC" means a 40+ TOPS NPU and a real Microsoft Copilot+ badge. "AI PC" means an NPU of roughly 13 TOPS — an NPU is present, but it falls short of Copilot+ certification. Plain "Laptop PC" means no AI branding at all. All three exist under the OmniBook 7 name, and the difference is worth real money at resale.

Processor — 2025 generation

  • Intel Core Ultra 5 225H / Core Ultra 7 255H — Arrow Lake-H, the mainstream 14" and 16" "AI PC" chips
  • Intel Core Ultra 5 225U — Arrow Lake-U, a lower-power variant: 2 P-cores, 8 Skymont E-cores, 2 Crestmont low-power E-cores
  • Intel Core Ultra 5 (Series 2) — the 17.3-inch "Next Gen AI PC" tier
  • Intel Core 5 / Core 7 / Core 9 (non-Ultra) — the plain 16-az "Laptop PC" builds
  • Arrow Lake "AI PC" models top out near 13 TOPS on the NPU and are not Copilot+ certified, despite the AI branding.

Processor — 2026 "Panther Lake" refresh

  • Intel Core Ultra X7 358H — Core Ultra Series 3, built on Intel's 18A process
  • 4 Performance cores + 8 Efficient cores + 4 low-power Efficient cores, 1.5–4.8 GHz
  • 50 TOPS NPU — comfortably Copilot+ class
  • Idles as low as ~2.5 W on its low-power cores
  • No Hyper-Threading on these chips — core count, not thread count, is the number that matters.

Graphics (GPU)

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU — 6GB GDDR6 dedicated. Optional on 16-inch and 17.3-inch builds, and by far the biggest single value lever on this laptop.
  • Intel Arc B390 — 12 Xe cores at 2.5 GHz, the 2026 Panther Lake integrated GPU
  • Intel Arc 140T / Arc 130T — 2025 Arrow Lake-H integrated
  • Intel Graphics (4-core Xe LPG) — Arrow Lake-U integrated
  • Intel Iris Xe G7 (96EU) / Intel UHD Xe G4 (48EU) — entry 16-az builds
  • If your laptop has an NVIDIA sticker or shows "RTX 4050" in Task Manager, say so on the form — it changes the offer substantially.

Memory (RAM)

  • 2025 models: DDR5-5200 and DDR5-5600, commonly 16GB or 32GB
  • 2026 Panther Lake: DDR5-8533, up to 32GB — Panther Lake moved memory off-die, so speeds jumped sharply
  • Configurations up to 64GB were offered on higher 16-inch builds
  • Whether your RAM sits in upgradable slots or is soldered varies by chassis and generation on this line. Don't guess — msinfo32 reports the actual installed figure, and that's the number we price against.

Storage

  • M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD throughout
  • Common capacities: 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB
  • Drives here are genuinely fast — a 2026 16-inch unit was measured above 10,000 MB/s sequential read
  • The SSD is a removable M.2 card, so a previous owner may have upgraded it. Select the capacity you have now, not the factory one.

Durability & operating system

  • 11 MIL-STD-810H tests — drops, shock, dust, humidity, and rapid temperature swings. Applies to all three clamshell sizes.
  • Magnesium-alloy chassis with recycled metals and ocean-bound plastics; EPEAT Gold and ENERGY STAR registered
  • Windows 11 Home on most retail units; Windows 11 Pro on select business-channel configurations
  • Military-grade testing is a durability claim, not a warranty — cosmetic damage still affects your grade.

Display & audio

Display — 14-inch

A 16:10 panel in two very different grades. The base option is WUXGA (1920 × 1200) IPS with a matte, non-glossy finish. The premium option is a 2.8K OLED at 120Hz with variable refresh stepping between 48Hz and 120Hz. HP also lists a 3K (2880 × 1800) OLED on some regional configurations. The OLED builds are worth appreciably more — if your screen has deep, true blacks and a glossy surface, you have one.

Display — 16-inch

Three distinct panels were sold, and they are not interchangeable in value. WUXGA (1920 × 1200) IPS is the base. WQXGA (2560 × 1600) IPS at 240Hz is the 2026 sharp-and-fast option — matte, very quick, but with no HDR and colours less vivid than OLED. 2K OLED at 120Hz is the rich-contrast option. Touch was offered on selected 16-inch builds.

Display — 17.3-inch

The 17.3-inch trades resolution for sheer size: FHD (1920 × 1080) with touch, standard across the size. No OLED, no QHD, and no 4K option was ever offered at 17.3 inches — this is the one size where a big screen doesn't mean a sharp one.

Audio, webcam & microphone

Stereo speakers with real low-end presence — a clear step above the OmniBook 3, though not the loudest in class. Cameras differ by generation: 2025 models carry a 5 MP IR webcam with Windows Hello face unlock, while the 2026 refresh moves to a 1440p Poly-enhanced camera and microphone array with AI background and noise handling. A dual-array microphone and Windows Hello facial recognition are present throughout.

Ports & connectivity

Thunderbolt is the clearest dividing line between the OmniBook 7 and the cheaper OmniBook tiers — no OmniBook 3 has it, and every OmniBook 7 does. Counting your ports also separates the two generations.

2025 generation (14-fr, 16-ay, 16-az, 17-dc)
  • 1× Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 40Gbps (data, charging, and display output over one port)
  • 1× USB-C with Power Delivery
  • 2× USB-A (typically one 5Gbps and one 10Gbps)
  • 1× HDMI 2.1
  • 1× 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack
2026 Panther Lake refresh (16-bh)
  • 2× Thunderbolt 4 (both on the right side; charging uses one of these)
  • 1× USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (left side, beside the audio jack)
  • 1× USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 (right side)
  • 1× HDMI 2.1
  • 1× 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack

What the OmniBook 7 clamshells do not have: no Ethernet / RJ-45 jack. No SD or microSD card reader. No Thunderbolt 5. No optical drive. No HDR on the 240Hz IPS panel. No numeric keypad on the 14-inch. Charger wattage also differs — Core Ultra 7 225H and 255H builds ship with a 100W adapter, everything else with a 65W one, so check the brick before you assume yours is missing something.

Thunderbolt 4 Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.3 (2025) Wi-Fi 7 + BT 6.0 (2026) MIL-STD-810H No Ethernet No card reader

Battery, build & more

Battery & charging

A 68 Wh 4-cell lithium-polymer pack across the range, and it performs well above its size — a 2026 16-inch unit recorded 22 hours 20 minutes in office-workload battery testing. Charging runs over USB-C or Thunderbolt at 65W or 100W depending on processor, reaching 50% in roughly 30 minutes. The 2026 adapter is a compact phone-style brick weighing about 245 g. On the 2026 16-inch, the charging port sits awkwardly on the right where a mouse hand naturally rests — a known ergonomic quirk, not a fault.

Keyboard & touchpad

Backlit chiclet keyboard with a firm, accurate action suited to long typing sessions. The 16-inch and 17.3-inch include a numeric keypad; the 14-inch does not. Keycaps use recycled plastic. Touchpads are generously sized and reliable, with no unintended-input issues reported in independent testing.

Cooling

Runs silently the great majority of the time, with the fan rising only to a soft whoosh under sustained load. Sustained-load testing showed performance dropping just ~1.5% over 30 minutes, so meaningful thermal throttling isn't a characteristic of this chassis. Loud or grinding fans on a used unit therefore point to dust or a worn bearing — worth mentioning on the condition form.

Chassis & colours

Magnesium-alloy construction, very stiff, with only slight flex when the lid is twisted. Sold principally in Glacier Silver and Meteor Silver, with a metallic pink and additional silver finishes on selected 14-inch builds. Colour does not affect your quote.

Weight

  • 14-inch: the portability pick of the range
  • 16-inch (2025): ≈ 1.95 kg (4.30 lb)
  • 16-inch (2026 Panther Lake): ≈ 1.96 kg (4.32 lb)
  • 17.3-inch: heaviest — a desk machine rather than a commuter
  • The 16-inch is notably heavy for its size; that's the trade for the magnesium chassis and MIL-STD testing.

Dimensions

  • 14-inch: 313.7 × 216.2 × 14.9 mm (12.35" × 8.51" × 0.59")
  • 16-inch and 17.3-inch: proportionally larger; both retain the same slim profile and rounded edge treatment

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I find out which HP OmniBook 7 I actually have?
Quickest route: close the laptop, turn it over, and read the small printed text on the bottom cover. A line beginning "Product:" or "Model:" gives a short code such as 14-fr0013TU, 16-ay0087nr, 16-az0097nr, or 17-dc0037nr. That's all we need.

If the label is worn, switch the laptop on, hold the Windows key and press R, type msinfo32 and press Enter. "System Model" shows the same code, with your processor and RAM listed directly beneath. The preinstalled HP Support Assistant app shows the same details on its home screen.

One extra thing worth checking on this particular laptop: whether you have the NVIDIA RTX 4050. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, click the Performance tab, and look down the left-hand list. If you see an entry reading "GPU 1 — NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050" alongside the Intel one, you have the discrete graphics version, and it's worth notably more. Fuller walkthroughs live in our HP model number guide and our find your gadget's model resource.
02 My laptop says "OmniBook" — how do I know it's a 7, and not a Flip, a 5, or an X?
HP's OmniBook naming is dense, so go by the chassis code, never the lid. The clamshell OmniBook 7 models quoted on this page use 14-fr, 14-fs, 16-ay, 16-az, 16-bh, and 17-dc.

Does your screen fold all the way back? If the hinge rotates a full 360° into tablet or tent mode, you have the OmniBook 7 Flip 16 on the 16-au chassis, which isn't quoted here. Three more tells on the Flip: a centred keyboard rather than one offset to the left, stylus support, and a lighter weight of about 1.79 kg against roughly 1.95 kg for the standard 16-inch. Critically, the Flip is the one OmniBook 7 with no MIL-STD-810H certification — it traded ruggedness for the hinge. Use our custom quote form for it.

Other look-alikes worth ruling out. The OmniBook X Flip 14/16 and OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 (14-fh) are separate premium convertible lines. The OmniBook 7 Aero 13 (13-bg) is a 13.3-inch AMD Ryzen AI model sold mostly in Asia-Pacific — notable because it's the one OmniBook 7 that isn't Intel. And the OmniBook 5 (16-fb, 16-af, 16-ag) and OmniBook 3 (16-bz, 16-by, 15-fn) sit below this tier.

Two fast physical checks separate an OmniBook 7 from the cheaper tiers: look for a lightning-bolt icon beside a USB-C port — that's Thunderbolt, and no OmniBook 3 has it — and check the chassis, which is magnesium alloy here versus plastic on the OmniBook 3. Landing on the wrong page means a revised offer after inspection, so it's worth the thirty seconds.
03 Will you buy my OmniBook 7 if it's damaged, worn, or has been upgraded?
Yes. We buy OmniBook 7 laptops in every working state — cracked screens, tired batteries, dented lids, failed keyboards, worn hinges, missing keycaps, and units that won't hold a charge all still carry firm cash value. Grade the condition honestly using the options above; over-grading is the most common reason a quote gets revised on arrival.

A note specific to this model: because the OmniBook 7 is MIL-STD-810H tested, plenty of these have lived hard lives in bags and on job sites and still look fine. Don't assume yours is worth less than it is because it's been travelled with — the magnesium chassis holds up well, and light scuffing on a rugged laptop is normal wear rather than damage.

Upgrades are welcome and frequently raise your offer. A larger SSD counts — select your current capacity rather than the factory figure. RAM configuration varies across this line, so rather than guessing whether yours was upgraded, run msinfo32 and read the installed total. Battery health is assessed on arrival, and you can check yours in advance by opening Command Prompt and running powercfg /batteryreport, which generates a report comparing current capacity to the original design capacity.
04 What raises an OmniBook 7's trade-in value — and can I actually get cash for one?
Many people don't realise their work-grade laptop can be traded in for cash at all — the common assumption is that a professional machine either goes back to an employer or sits in a drawer until it's worthless. That's an expensive assumption with an OmniBook 7, because this tier holds value far better than the budget OmniBooks. Gadget Salvation has bought used electronics since 2008, and we pay actual cash rather than store credit, unlike the retail trade-in programmes at Best Buy or Apple. We also still make an offer on laptops that are damaged or not fully working — machines those programmes typically value at zero and simply recycle.

What moves the number most, roughly in order:
  • Discrete NVIDIA graphics. An RTX 4050 build is worth dramatically more than an integrated-graphics one. This is the single largest factor on this laptop.
  • Processor tier and generation. A 2026 Core Ultra X7 358H (Panther Lake, 50 TOPS, Copilot+) outvalues a 2025 Core Ultra 5/7, which in turn outvalues a plain non-Ultra Core 5 or Core 7 16-az build.
  • Display panel. OLED and the 240Hz WQXGA IPS both command a premium over base WUXGA — and considerably more than the FHD panel on the 17.3-inch.
  • RAM and storage. 32GB and 1TB or 2TB configurations pull ahead sharply, helped by the current surge in memory and SSD pricing.
  • Wireless generation. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 on the 2026 refresh add to the offer over the 2025 Wi-Fi 6E models.
  • Battery health and cosmetic condition, which set the final grade.

05 How do I wipe my data, and how and when do I get paid?
Copy anything you want to keep to an external drive or cloud storage, then sign out of your Microsoft account and release any Office, Adobe, or other licences so they're free to reuse elsewhere. To reset the laptop, go to Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC → Remove everything → Remove files and clean the drive. Leave the SSD installed — please don't open the chassis. Our technicians run certified multi-pass sanitisation on every drive we receive regardless, and the full procedure is on our data erasure protocols page.

This step matters more on the OmniBook 7 than on most laptops. Because it's a professional-tier machine, a large share of these were bought through business channels and enrolled in device management. If yours came from a workplace, ask your IT department to release it from Intune, Autopilot, or any other MDM enrolment, and to clear any BIOS or HP Sure Start administrator password, before you ship it. An enrolled device re-locks itself to the company tenant after a factory reset, which makes it unsellable until released.

Shipping is free and fully insured — we send a prepaid label, and our shipping instructions cover safe packing. Once your OmniBook 7 arrives and passes functional testing, payment is approved within about two business days, by PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, or CashApp, or by a physical check posted to your address. Include the charger — note that the 100W and 65W adapters are not interchangeable in performance, so send the one that came with the laptop. Clearing several devices at once? We handle bulk sales and school and institutional buybacks too.
