The MSI Prestige 15 is a thin-and-light creator laptop line that ran across three generations: the A10 (10th Gen Intel "Comet Lake", late 2019–2020), the A11 (11th Gen Intel "Tiger Lake", 2021), and the A12 (12th Gen Intel "Alder Lake", 2022). All three share the same all-aluminum 15.6-inch Carbon Gray / Urban Silver chassis and target photographers, video editors, and professionals who need a light machine with a color-accurate screen. Because the internals changed substantially between generations — the port layout, the memory type, and the graphics options are not the same across A10, A11, and A12 — pinning down your exact generation is the single most important step to getting an accurate offer. Identify your model with our tool above to see an instant cash quote for your specific configuration. Not sure which one you have? The identification guide below walks you through it in plain steps.

First: which Prestige 15 do you have?

Every Prestige 15 has a model code printed on a sticker on the underside of the laptop, and it always starts with the letter A followed by two numbers. Those two numbers are the generation. You do not need to be tech-savvy — just flip the laptop over and read the label:

✅ A10 = 1st gen (2019–2020)

Sticker reads A10SC (e.g. A10SC-011, A10SC-010, A10SC-008ES, A10SC-215XFR). Runs a 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10710U. This is the only generation with Thunderbolt 3 and DDR4-2666 memory.

✅ A11 = 2nd gen (2021)

Sticker reads A11SCX or A11SC (e.g. A11SCX-211, A11SCX-217, A11SCX-002). Runs an 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1185G7 and adds Thunderbolt 4.

✅ A12 = 3rd gen (2022)

Sticker reads A12UC, A12UD, A12SC or A12U (e.g. A12UC-025FR, A12UD-093). Runs a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-1240P / i7-1260P / i7-1280P and uses soldered LPDDR4X memory that cannot be upgraded.

❌ Not a Prestige 15 if…

Your sticker says Prestige 14 (smaller 14" screen), Prestige 15 Evo / Prestige Evo, or Summit — those are different products and will not price correctly on this page. Check the printed product name, not just the "A11" code.

On Windows you can also confirm the exact code by pressing the Windows key, typing System Information, and reading the "System Model" line — it will list the full A-code. Our MSI model-number guide shows this with pictures.

Core hardware by generation

Processor (CPU)

  • A10: Intel Core i7-10710U — 6 cores, 12 threads, up to 4.7 GHz, 12MB cache (Comet Lake-U)
  • A11: Intel Core i7-1185G7 — 4 cores, 8 threads, up to 4.8 GHz (Tiger Lake)
  • A12: Intel Core i5-1240P / i7-1260P / i7-1280P — up to 14 cores, 20 threads, up to 4.8 GHz (Alder Lake-P)

Graphics (GPU)

  • A10: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q — 4GB GDDR5
  • A11: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q — 4GB GDDR6
  • A12: Intel Iris Xe (no discrete GPU), GTX 1650 Max-Q, RTX 3050, or RTX 3050 Ti — 4GB GDDR6, capped at ~40W
  • Exact GPU tier is one of the biggest value drivers — see FAQ 04.

Memory (RAM)

  • A10 & A11: DDR4 in two SO-DIMM slots — 8GB / 16GB / 32GB factory, user-upgradable up to 64GB
  • A12: LPDDR4X-4266, soldered to the board — NOT upgradable. Shipped as 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB; whatever it left the factory with is permanent.

Storage

  • M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive (SSD)
  • Common capacities: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB (some A11 configs shipped with 2TB)
  • Dual M.2 slots on all generations; A12 pairs one PCIe Gen3 slot with one faster PCIe Gen4 slot

Display & audio

Display

15.6-inch IPS-level panel at 60Hz across all generations, offered in two resolutions: Full HD (1920 × 1080) covering roughly 100% sRGB, or 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) covering 100% AdobeRGB for color-critical work. The 4K UHD panels are the more valuable option at trade-in. There is no touchscreen and no high-refresh gaming panel on this line.

Audio

Dual stereo speakers with an integrated array microphone. The Prestige 15 is tuned for productivity rather than gaming, so it does not carry the Nahimic gaming-audio branding found on MSI's GS/GE lines.

Ports & connectivity

The physical port selection is similar across generations, but the USB-C standard is not — this is a key thing to get right for an accurate quote.

Left Side
  • USB-C ports (A10: 2× Thunderbolt 3 · A11 & A12: 2× Thunderbolt 4 — both support DisplayPort and USB-C Power Delivery charging)
  • 1× HDMI (2.0 on A10/A11; HDMI 2.1 supporting 4K @ 60Hz on A12)
  • 1× 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack
Right Side
  • 2× USB-A ports (USB 3.2 Gen 1 on A10/A11; USB 3.2 Gen 2 on A12)
  • 1× microSD card reader (spring-loaded microSD only — there is NO full-size SD card slot on any Prestige 15)

Please note: the Prestige 15 has no RJ-45 Ethernet port (network access is over Wi-Fi or a bundled USB dongle) and charges over USB-C rather than a barrel plug — features some sellers expect but that this model does not have.

Wi-Fi 6 (AX200 / AX201) Bluetooth 5.0 / 5.1 Fingerprint reader (A11 / A12)

Battery, build & more

Battery & charging

82Wh 4-cell battery, charged over USB-C Power Delivery with a compact USB-C adapter (no barrel-plug charger). Real-world runtime is roughly all-day on lighter workloads.

Camera & mic

Integrated 720p HD webcam with array microphones. A11 and A12 configurations commonly add an infrared (IR) camera for Windows Hello facial login.

Keyboard

Full-size backlit chiclet keyboard (single-color white backlight), with a fingerprint reader built into the trackpad on A11 and A12. No numeric keypad.

Build

All-aluminum unibody in Carbon Gray or Urban Silver. A12 models meet the MIL-STD-810G durability standard.

Weight

≈ 1.6 kg (3.5 lb) — light for a 15.6-inch laptop, one of the line's main selling points.

Dimensions

356.8 × 233.7 × 15.9 mm (14.05" × 9.20" × 0.63").

Frequently asked questions

01 How do I find out exactly which MSI Prestige 15 I have?
Turn the laptop upside down and look at the printed label on the bottom cover. You will see a code starting with the letter "A" and two digits — A10 means the 2019–2020 model, A11 means the 2021 model, and A12 means the 2022 model. That two-digit number is all you need to pick the right generation above. If the label is worn off, press the Windows key, type "System Information," and read the "System Model" line. Step-by-step pictures are in our MSI model-number guide, or see the general find-your-gadget guide.
02 How do I make sure I'm not confusing it with a Prestige 14, Prestige Evo, or Summit?
MSI's Prestige laptops look almost identical across sizes, so it's easy to mix them up. Three quick checks: (1) the screen — the Prestige 15 has a 15.6-inch display, while the Prestige 14 is noticeably smaller. (2) the printed name on the bottom sticker — it must literally say "Prestige 15." A sticker that reads Prestige 15 Evo or just Prestige Evo is a different, Intel-Evo-certified model, and a Summit is MSI's business line, not the Prestige. (3) don't rely on the "A11"/"A12" code alone — both the Prestige 14 and Prestige 15 use those same generation codes, so always read the full product name next to it. Picking the wrong product on our site can void your quote when the device is inspected, so it's worth double-checking.
03 Can I sell a Prestige 15 that has wear, a weak battery, or a cracked screen?
Yes. We buy Prestige 15 laptops in every condition, from like-new to heavily used. Whether yours runs perfectly, has a battery that no longer holds a charge, shows dents or scuffs on the aluminum shell, has a flickering or cracked display, or won't power on at all, just select the matching condition options above and your quote adjusts automatically. Cosmetic and functional issues lower the offer but rarely make a device worthless — it's always worth getting the estimate.
04 Which specs raise my Prestige 15 trade-in value the most — and did you know we do trade-ins at all?
Many people don't realize that Gadget Salvation runs a full online trade-in / buyback service — you don't have to list your laptop on a marketplace, deal with lowball offers, or meet strangers. You get an instant quote here, ship it to us with a free prepaid label, and get paid. On the value side, the biggest factors are the generation (a 2022 A12 is worth more than a 2019 A10), the GPU (an A12 with RTX 3050 Ti or RTX 3050 beats an integrated-graphics or GTX 1650 config), and the display (the 4K UHD AdobeRGB panel is worth more than the Full HD one). A larger SSD, more RAM, and an i7 processor all add to the final number. If you want more detail before selling, our blog covers how to sell a laptop and compare buyback platforms, and you can start a laptop quote here or read how it works.
05 Should I wipe my data first, and how do I get paid?
Back up anything you want to keep to an external drive or the cloud, sign out of your Windows/Microsoft account, and ideally run a factory reset before shipping — our step-by-step MSI factory reset guide walks you through it. You do not need to remove the M.2 SSD yourself; our team performs certified, multi-pass data sanitization on every incoming drive — details are on our data erasure protocols page. Once your laptop arrives and passes inspection, payment is approved within about two business days via PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, or a mailed check. The prepaid shipping label is free and fully insured.
