2021 Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Laptop: What to Expect

Enjoy pro-level performance and the next level of immersive gaming with the brand-new Lenovo Legion 5 Pro gaming laptop.

Lenovo trims the Legion series’ minimalist look even further by replacing the entire Legion logo with only the iconic Y symbol on the lid.

Lenovo presented its upgraded Legion gaming laptop line at CES 2021 this past January. The company unveiled a variety of models, including the Legion 5 15-inch, Legion 5 17-inch, Lenovo 5 Pro, and Legion 7 series. The 2021 Legion laptops are equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen processors and NVIDIA GeForce graphics. The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro packs high-quality internal hardware components, a turbocharged dual-fan design, and more.

As with previous Legion models, Lenovo combined powerful hardware with a minimalist design, enclosed in a sleek, thin chassis. If you are interested in exploring the variety of models in the Legion line, we suggest our Lenovo Legion lineup for 2021 post, which we put out earlier this year. However, in this post, we are focusing on the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro AMD Ryzen 7-based laptops.

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 2021: New Features

Overall, the Legion 5 series laptops got mostly internal hardware updates. The latest version has a powerful AMD Ryzen processor and NVIDIA RTX 30-series graphics. And here is what’s changed:

• Legion 5 Pro has a more gaming-oriented design, with a backlit Legion logo on its top lid.
• The laptop got new Coldfront 3.0 thermals and Legion AI Engine, which Legion models had never had before. The engine allows for dynamic power shifting between the CPU and GPU.
• Finally, this device features a 16-inch QHD display, a departure from the traditional 15.6″ and 17.3″ options. To learn more about the advantages of QHD screens, please see our QHD vs. FHD for gaming laptops post.

The Legion 5 Pro is a laptop with extraordinary performance, capable of running even the most demanding AAA titles. It is equipped with high-end gaming components and brand-new technologies, such as Coldfront 3.0 and AI Engine.

Legion 5 Pro: Design

The overall look of the new Legion 5 Pro hasn’t changed all that much. A crisp design with an aluminum case in a “Storm Gray” finish works great for gaming and work. The dimensions, however, grew slightly due to the larger 16-inch screen: it gained 0.4 inches in diagonal. The weight hasn’t changed, though: it is still a 5.4-pound laptop.

Display

Enjoy an even more immersive gaming experience with the unique 16-inch QHD display. With its super-fast 165Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time, you’ll benefit from vivid rendering in action. It has a 100% sRGB color gamut, HDR 400 support, Dolby Vision, VESA DisplayHDR, and a 34% increase in pixel density. It also supports NVIDIA G-Sync.

These specs make the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro model perfect for content creators. Its display provides 500 nits of brightness and 100% sRGB color accuracy. In addition, the display has anti-glare treatment, which works quite well while playing games; it does not affect the color at all.

Overall, the Legion 5 Pro is an excellent laptop for playing esports games.

Performance

Because of their components, the 2021 Legion 5 Pro series laptops deliver pro-level gaming performance. Their ultra-powerful CPU and graphics deliver for even the most demanding gamers, especially in esports. Digital creators can run Adobe Premiere and Photoshop on this machine without a snag.

We should also mention the Legion 5 Pro’s 3D Nahimic Audio, specifically designed for gamers. It offers incredible high-definition sound technology. Nahimic audio boosts your gaming laptop’s audio and voice performance for crystal-clear communication.

Connectivity Ports & Thermals

Legion 5 Pro has Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 ax) and Bluetooth 5.1. The device has several ports, distributed mainly on the back and each side of the laptop. You’ll find one USB 3.2 port, one USB 3.2 Type-C port with a headphone combo jack, one HDMI 2.1 port, and three USB 3.2 ports.

As mentioned, this laptop sports Lenovo’s Coldfront 3.0 innovation technology. Think of it as an intelligent system that increases airflow (up to 18%) to better manage fan noise and the heat generated by the computing power. Running the system at lower temperatures will provide optimized performance and longer battery life.

Lenovo Legion AI engine recognizes multiple sensors across the CPU, GPU, side thermal vents, SSD, memory card, and more to report your device’s temperature, so you can game for hours without overheating your system and compromising performance. Moreover, you can control the fan speed and voltage with Q Control 4.0 to extend battery life.

Keyboard

Pictured above is a Legion 5 Pro with the TrueStrike Keyboard.

The Lenovo TrueStrike keyboard features soft-landing switches that deliver deeper strokes with equal force on every strike. The inputs have not changed from the standard Lenovo Legion 5 series. Because of the RGB backlit technology, this is a full-size keyboard available with different illumination options.

Price & Availability

The Legion 5 Pro 16-inch models have yet to hit the US market and are not currently available online. However, they are available in Asia-Pacific markets for the equivalent of $ 1,826 USD and up.
